I'm so sorry for your loss. I too lost my father this year, in April. He lived with us as well, and I was amazed at how hard it hit me. I truly didn't expect it to destroy my ability to look after myself properly. I started eating gallons of ice cream and skipping the gym. Right now, 6 months later, I am slowly getting…

I find the same thing, only it's been happening ever since I started to get fit. I wonder if you aren't overexercising. That was what I was told by many people, and it makes sense. You are working your muscles fairly vigorously, and that actually breaks them down. They grow by rebuilding after the workout, and if you don't…

Hi! I was doing well, then had a bad summer (hubby's health - I binged on ice cream), plateaued like crazy in Sept/Oct, and was doing great in Nov/Dec. You know what happened at Christmas! I am 10 - 15 lbs over where I want to be as well. Love to have another friend, add me if you wish.

It's a mild 3 celsius - that's 38 in American ;-) - but we are stuck in a fog bank. Haven't seen the sky for 3 days now.

I find a hot herbal tea with a touch of sugar (15 - 30 calories) takes the edge off for me. I have trouble at work with that, and that tends to shut me up.
-
I've been wondering how to find those as well.

Now I feel old, I don't know most of these songs/artists!

Vancouver Island here. And don't hate me because we are enjoying such mild weather!!

Absolutely fantastic advice here! Thanks everyone. I usually eat when bored, also I've become trained to do it in front of the tv, (I know, that's the worst one.) I tried veggies or fruit, but still wanted the snacks. I finally found that tea tends to shut me up. I'll have an herbal tea, with a bit of sugar (15 - 30…

I don't do Zumba, so have no comments on the right footwear, but I was concerned that someone might ignore foot pain and make things worse. I suffer from flat feet, and lately have been very careful to wear runners with good support plus quality arch supports. I have had no foot pain for a couple of years now. BUT:…

I read somewhere that the listings without an asterisk are from MSP, so are likely to be more accurate. Not everything has them, mostly fruit and veg and raw meat. (Naturally). You can always input your own under 'recipes' and 'my foods'. When I use the database, I look at lots of entries and use one that's higher and…

^^ This is exactly it. If you're a binger, it never really leaves you, but you will find as time goes by the temptation will become easier to deal with. On days when you are tired or stressed, it will still be hard. And sometimes you will give in, then you will have to try to make it fit as best you can. Don't make the…

Bumping to check out the links at home. Thanks for all the info.

Awesome NSV!!! I can't imagine much flab being left on anyone who is skinnier than James Bond! Way to go.

Don't forget, too, that the MEASUREMENTS mean more than the SCALE at this point. I'm currently exactly the same measurements as I was last December, but weigh 3 pounds more. I had a rough summer, but I started lifting weights in May. In the last few months I started tracking my food properly again. I eat about 1400 per day…

I would prefer if it told me what the last 7 days were doing to my weight!

I'm bumping too because this is wonderful!
-
Bump. Not sure if this is toooooo much info for me, but will check it out. Thanks for sharing your work!
-
Mmmmm......bump. Now I'm REALLY hungry!

^^^ I agree, and I do things similarly. You have to do what YOU like, not anyone else. Otherwise you'll never make it. And expect to be obsessed for a couple of years. You are doing something really hard that is new and important to you, so it will be in your head all the time. Use that to your advantage, since it can help…

I'm not as bad as you, but I do have a problem with sweets too. Ice cream is my worst one. And Christmas and Halloween! Ugh! And yes, once I've had one, all the days getting rid of the craving are done, and I want more! One thing I found in the evenings, which are my worst time, since I don't take sweets to work and can't…

Never said they "can't"! Just in my experience most of them "won't". And before I get attacked for it, yes, I know some do, and better than women. But a quick survey of most of my women friends would prove that the bulk of them fit many of these generalizations.

Speaking as a heterosexual woman, I've always felt that I needed a wife of my own! To do all the OTHER things we as wives usually get stuck with: cooking food that's actually edible, cleaning the bathroom so I can actually sit on the toilet, doing laundry without shrinking my favourite clothes, changing the toilet paper…

Bump! Maybe it's something I can get my diabetic dad to eat. He won't give up his potatoes.:explode:

Check out Stroutman81 here on MFP. He is a weight trainer and he has a lot of interesting info on this and other questions. He has a website too, but I can't remember it right now. Should be able to get there from his profile though.

I'm not diabetic myself, so can't speak from personal experience. But my dad is, and he doesn't eat right or exercise, and I've noticed that the minute he does anything physical, even just a gentle putter in the garden, his blood sugar numbers drop like a stone. So I would say keeping active is a huge factor, along with,…
