  • Thanks for the kind words. One day at a time, it's a struggle but I hope we all find the balance we seek.
  • Food can be comforting, that's for sure! I like your personal take, and those links are very helpful, thanks for posting them. I counted 19 binge days since January 1st, I didn't realize it was that much until today. But my pants acknowledge it... Once I achieved my goal weight I told myself that I won't allow myself to go…
  • Inga: 16 Binge: 5 Just joined the group, it's been a bad month for me. Need to resist the urge, and do something constructive vs destructive. I'm checking out books that others have recommended on here.
  • I have since found MFP Binge eating support groups and read other message threads. But any words of wisdom would be appreciated. :flowerforyou:
  • Be careful with some of the suggestions here, as overuse of stool softeners, magnesium, and Miralax can cause more harm than good. I have suffered with constipation for years, and I find if I eat/drink anything fermented I will usually have a bowel movement in a couple days. Beer especially works for me as well as kefir.…
  • Oh and I want to add that I didn't start working out until January because I wanted to focus on my diet first. And as for diet I eat at least one egg every morning, and I avoid processed and foods labeled "low-fat"/"fat-free". I like how Michael Pollan thinks about food. And Mark Bittman. I have been eating a lot of fish…
  • Thanks again everyone! I feel really healthy. MFP= My Fitness Pal, I thought I would be savvy with the acronyms. ;-) I run around 15 miles a week, which is something I really enjoy. When I first started running on the treadmill, I would watch Biggest Loser on Netflix for inspiration. I kept telling myself if they can push…
  • Thank you everyone! I have really enjoyed losing weight, and I hope I have fun maintaining :-) @sgoessling, I hear ya, I loved looking at pictures, especially when motivation is lacking.
  • I started losing in August 2009, lost around 10 lbs in a year just by eating breakfast and packing my own lunch. Then in August 2011 I joined weight watchers. Lost 20 lbs in 4 months, and then I switched to MFP and lost an additional 15lbs. I mainly eat unprocessed foods, a lot of fish and olive oil, avocado, eggs. I…
  • Kate Middleton has my dream body. (Although now that I am almost to 22% body fat I am digging my bod, haha)
  • I just thought of this post the other day and neglected to mention that I mainly eat unprocessed foods. I can't remember the last time I had fast food, I do eat a higher fat diet but from avocado, fish, olive oil, meat, eggs, dark chocolate, etc. When I crave something it's usually gelato or those damn gummies. I could…
  • If I crave something I still eat it, just fit it into my calories for the week. I don't fret if I go over that day because other days I am under and it makes up for the extra splurge. Besides moderation is really good for you, and depriving yourself of a certain food is only going to cause trouble. At least for me...
  • I have lost 30 lbs since last August, and pretty much at goal. I just want to tone up a bit more. Like others I find it easier to maintain this weight than when I lost a lot of weight in a shorter period of time. Granted I did lose around 1-2 lbs a week at the beginning of tracking my food. Also, I noticed that I go a…
  • Cookies have saturated fat, bananas do not. I personally would prefer fructose found naturally in fruit over refined sugar. I am fine with eating one banana, cookies I can't just stop at one. Bananas win. That's what I think.

  • I have watched it before. It is such inspiration to eat unprocessed wholesome foods. I still eat meat, but not as often as I did when I was younger. And I found out I am lactose intolerant a couple years ago, so I have restricted my dairy intake drastically. (a struggle since I was raised in Wisconsin) There's a movement…
  • And if you eat too few calories and go into starvation mode, your body will try to conserve energy, hence the gain in weight or no lost.
  • BMR= Basal Metabolic Rate It's the amount of calories we need to just get by, to have our bodies function correctly without going into starvation mode. Here's the wikipedia article regarding BMR http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Basal_metabolic_rate 1200 calories is usually the standard BMR people use, but can be too low for…
  • I need to add my pictures, so bump until I get those taken.
  • This quote comes to mind when I think about breakfast: "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper" That being said, I take the time to cook and usually make eggs with a banana. -2 eggs + 1 eggwhite omelette: Spinach, tomato, Parmesan cheese with a banana and earl grey tea = 412 calories…
  • If I feel hungry, I go for a glass of almond milk. (used to be skim milk, but lactose intolerant) Or hot chocolate made with almond milk.
  • I also ate a lot of frozen meals in the past. It was a great cheap way of eating fast in College. So this is what I have been doing: I have a couple meals that are super easy to cook, which are my go-to when I get home and only have myself to feed. One is pasta with veggies (I just nix the meat because it's takes longer to…
  • He might benefit from Tai Chi, which is great for the older crowd. Otherwise I think biking and weights would be great to get him started. I think if you google "home exercises arthritis" you will hit a gold mine of ideas. Good luck! And I am a bit jealous of all that snow!
  • Sometimes it seems like my body shape suddenly changes one day. I've lost a total of 11 kg since August and there has been months where my measurements didn't change but I lost weight. My goal weight is whenever I have lost my belly fat rolls, lol.
