Does he know I stopped listening 5 minutes ago?

OP- you and I have had parallel lives! As a child I had ballet class 3-4/week for years, and the last 27 years I've been riding horses. At this point I think I'd call a doctor if my knee *stopped* making a noise. :)

My right knee has popped for decades. And I've been athletic all my life so my knees have been asked to do quite a lot. Every time I squat, bend down to pick something up etc. it pops. It's painless; I think the minute it started to hurt I would see a doctor. Just one woman's experience. :)

You absolutely can see a difference. No question. If you don't think 18 lbs is much go put 18 lbs of something into a bag and pick it up. That's a lot of weight! Great job!

Kind of a timely question. I do my measurements every Friday morning and last week my waist was a 28. This morning I was a 26. When I saw that I thought, "No, I did it wrong. There's no way that's right." I measured again. Again, it was 26. So I went and found another kind of string to measure and did it in front of a…

Nothing happened for a week, I neither gained nor lost. Two weeks after I started I dropped a pound, and for the last 9 weeks I've lost one pound every week. I had a total of 10 lbs I wanted to lose, with the possibility of another 5 after that. Hang in there!

*snort* Exactly.

I think you need a HRM to log any barn time. I keep telling myself I'm going to buy one but it has yet to happen. MFP has calorie counts for walk, trot and general and I use them as rough guidelines because I have no idea if they're actually accurate. And if I canter/jump etc. I have zero clue how many calories I've used.…

I think I'd just be grateful to GET compliments. I am a compliment-free-zone apparently!

That looks positively scrumptious. Just to clarify - each cookie is 234 calories? Sorry if I missed something obvious...

We have chickens too. Even with the older eggs we sometimes still get the whites coming off with the shell. Here's a trick that helps... when the eggs are done dump the water and put a lid on the pot, apparently the steam coming off the eggs help to separate the shell from the egg. There's no science behind that statement!…

This winter I've been ping-ponging between two breakfast meals: Cream of wheat (made with water) and a tsp of brown sugar. OK, maybe 2 teaspoons. or I chop up some kale, throw it in a skillet, crack two eggs over it and stir it all up over med. heat. Right now I have some left over salmon so this morning I'm going to flake…

Over the last few years I was edging towards the upper end of my BMI and not feeling as comfortable in myself as I was used to feeling. Clothes didn't feel quite right, it wasn't as much fun being nekid etc. :) I didn't want the weight to keep creeping up so I decided to address it now when it was a small problem. I intend…

While we're talking horses.... What burns more calories? Walking your horse down in a 10 acre field because he refuses to get caught vs. convincing your horse there isn't a mountain lion hiding behind the mailbox that you HAVE to pass in order to get back to the barn? I've lost 5 lbs in each scenario. :)

Fun, right?! Did you ever try dropping just one stirrup? That is even harder then dropping both!
-
Yup, that makes sense to me.

Personally I think it might be a wash. You're using your stabilizing muscles either way, just in different ways. For instance if I'm galloping in two point position in the saddle then my calves, thighs and butt get a huge workout. If I gallop bareback I feel it in my inner thighs and core. And it sort of depends what…

Once a week, Friday mornings to be exact. I was doing every day but the daily fluctuations were messing with my head and making me a tad bonkers. Weighing just once a week is much more calming. I want to lose 10 lbs so it's not a dramatic change from week to week, but it's still gratifying to see the numbers creep down. I…

For me it's after exercise. If I eat something before hand it just doesn't sit well. After the workout I coast the-appetite-suppressant effect until I feel hungry, then I eat breakfast.

*meekly raises hand* I like muscles *runs for cover*

Kateroot that is a darling bikini! Everyone looks fabulous.

I love sweating, or maybe it's the endorphins I get from sweaty-activities that make me think I love it. Whatever. Embrace your inner beast! I think men and women look great when they've been working out hard. The uber-coiffed people at a gym just look silly to me. Or anywhere for that matter.

This is May 1, 2012 right? ;) Sign me up!

Hello - I ride! That's me and my guy in the picture. He's been in semi retirement for a few years now and I *hope* he makes it to 33! Wow, that is a grand old age for a horse. Good luck on your journey! I don't check in to the boards much, but it's nice to have a fellow rider here. :) It's too bad mucking stalls isn't in…

Cream of wheat. It's packed with iron. Tastes fabulous on a cold winter morning too and keeps me full for hours.

Now why didn't I think of a HRM- that is brilliant! Your calorie data is much more on line with what I suspected. Heck, I can get a good sweat going just by doing a hard curry for 10 minutes! Thanks for your input!

I like having them. However having to smush them into your chest for serious workouts is kind of a pain. And I hate those athletic bras that give you the uni-boob.

I did a search for horseback riding and came up with this thread. I was curious if there were serious riders out there, and wondering if there was better data about calories burned when you do more than sit there like a sack of potatoes. :) I know I'm sweating and out of breath after a jump course, or a training session,…
