  • I had to throw my two cents worth in this discussion. I reached my goal weight ( where does the time go ?)- 4 years ago. Since then went through some major life changes. Lost 6 more working through that and right now 4 lbs over that long ago goal. I know, big deal and I'm happy that's all it is. Back to topic. I started…
  • I used to get asked that quite often as I was nearing my goal weight. Usually would just say portion control, lower carb intake. One response, looking completely not interested in that idea, said Oh no I could never do THAT. I love my potatoes far too much. Once again, someone looking for a magic answer. Now. Go out to…
  • About 46-49 lbs ago.. 3 years maintaining now. Makes me laugh thinking back. I have a golf wind shirt with a small v neck collar. At my highest weight I could not believe it just barely fit over my head ! I never knew that your head also got bigger with added weight. Add to that back fat rolls. Enough !!
  • A touch of apple slices, cinnamon and brown sugar. Yum ! Perhaps something to consider for a small catering deal I am currently working on. Easy. For an early morning golf group of women. Thanks. Looking for, easy but good.
  • Something I forgot about. Browned Onion Kugels baked in a muffin tin also have cottage cheese, poppy seeds, etc. anyone ever made them before ? If not, check them out. Great for a side dish, presentation....and portion control. :).
  • Canned beets ? Love them. Would have never thought of that. Lasagna, I always use cottage cheese. Guess I have never run across a good ricotta...
  • For those that like sweet. I have made a Pear, Fresh Rosemary, Irish butter combo for dinner rolls. (Pear preserve). Forget the butter. Pear/minced Rosemary. Sweet and a touch of herb flavor. Maybe ?
  • OMG ! Never imagined I would see so many responses. Thanks to all ! Wrote them all down. I am set now.
  • Thanks. Good idea. Have some great fruit preserves.
  • Chili Verde with Cilantro Lime Rice.
  • At age 51, almost overnight, it seemed, I had gained 36 lbs in about 4 years ! I could not stand what I saw in the mirror. Now age 59. And I have dropped 49 lbs. Thanks to MFP and learning portion control/nutrition. Seeing my collar bone again for the first time again was amazing !
  • No oven, travel time... Will need crockpot and/or cooler. Hot. ? Macaroni and Cheese. Boursin Spinach Artichoke Dip w/pita chips. Should stay at least warm while driving ? Cold. ? Cranberry Apple Chutney. Jello salad/Orange Fluff. Deviled eggs with feta cheese, lemon, asparagus tip garnish. Three Leaf Salad with homemade…
  • I'm 59. Highest weight 183. Current weight 135. Maintaining for three years now. MFP was the answer for me to understand portion control and better choices nutrition wise. At first it was challenging but when I started seeing results and feeling better it became a lifestyle change. I lost the first 25 lbs on my own (prior…
  • Thanks for the ideas. Just looking for anything to make using them besides just plain. Hmmm. Cinnamon sugar ? Not so sure about that. Lol.

  • Protect tooth enamel ? I must disagree. My husband used to drink a swallow daily, not diluted, and ended up having dental issues over time, which I am assuming had something to do with it. ?? He read something that made him believe this was a good idea for what I don't know. Just thought I would mention.
  • My hubby's favs age 50+. Tommy Bahama shirts. Black or black white combo golf/ polo type shirts or 1/4 zip lightweight pullovers, black jeans or khaki jeans. A cantaloupe color Tommy Bahama shirt was once at the top of the list however. I think longer inseam shorts look better on older men ? 11" or at least 10". And socks…
  • I will try to brief, but I was in the same position as a new stepmom decades ago. Never a fix to the problem situation, but was very tough for the youngest. Age 5-12, always heavier than all the other kids his age. Not saying it was best to let him to figure it out but actually it was, somewhat. Just like people posting…
  • 5'7 136 lbs B: 34.5 W: 30.5 H: 35.5 A bit smaller waist would be nice. But at age 59 don't want to get too thin.
  • Agree with above post. I was at my highest weight 183 at age 51. Now 136 at age 58. What worked for me was portion control for the most part. As we age we just don't need to eat as much. And it sneaks up quickly late 40's /early 50's. If you are gaining ? Could be lots of reasons. But increasing calories as suggested by…

  • Set small weight loss goals weekly, monthly ? Not the total amount you want to lose. This really helped me stay motivated.
  • Don't mean to sound snarky but you say you feel like you are 50 sometimes ? You nailed it on what you need to do to change. No fad whatever. Just get serious with CICO. Weigh and measure everything you eat. 2 lbs a week is possible, especially at first but not long term. Go for 50 lbs overall which is much more reasonable…
  • Nearing 8 years ago, I was fat and 51. I was a pasta addict. No more. I spent 4 years trying to lose on my own. 26 lbs. Better but still not where I wanted to be. In comes MFP. And the rest is history. I have now been maintaining at goal weight for two years. Have lost 49 lbs. For me it was all about learning portion…

  • I lost 48 lbs and went from a snug size 14 to an 8. So about 15 lbs a size.
  • 48 lbs gone. No more. Maintaining 2 years now.
  • And if I still lived in the Seattle area..whole Chilled Dungeness Crab with secret sauce and Dick's Cheeseburgers, fries and Tartar sauce. Seattle MFP members know what I am talking about...time to stop. Making me hungry.
  • Loaded nachos with guacamole. Homemade Shortbread Lemon Tart. A great lasagna. Cheetos. In that order. :)
  • Hi Pat. Thanks for telling me your story. Wow. Interesting about your fingers and toes. I have had one finger/thumb numb for close to a year now, just the tip of them. Just keep waiting for it to go away ? I lost some weight after losing my husband but back to goal range now. I see posts about the keto diet, will look into…
