  • It sounds like this person doesn't have a clue as to what they're talking about. I'd suggest getting with a registered dietitian. Let me guess, he said something like 'I'd like to start you on a plan where you come on [X] times per week until [vague unspecified length of time].' The diet of a vegan can be high in carbs.…
  • I've become a fan of Melinda's original habanero pepper sauce XXXX reserve. I grew hot peppers this and tried making my own. It was WAY easier than I was expecting and tastes really good too.
  • If that's all that's in them and you have them, I'd say go for it. Don't be expecting much out of them though.
  • I was the same way. I remember one time in high school I "tripped" and "twisted my ankle" on the second lap because I hated it so much. Now it's all head games for me. My feeling is that running is 5% muscle, 5% nutrition and 90% head games. The approach I use is once I start by setting a minimum distance I want to run. I…
  • You could try switching it up with another type of endurance exercise such as swimming or cycling. From my personal experiance, I was running about 20 miles/week then I got an injury to my foot and I didn't run for about a year so I started swimming instead. A few weeks ago I decided to start running again and went for a 6…
  • If you hate stretching, I'll assume you'd hate an ice bath even more. What do you do after you work out (sit in the car and drive to home/work, sit at home/work)? You could try swimming, low resistance biking or walking around for a little bit. Avoid not using your legs for long periods of time. Do things to increase the…
  • Things I've found work well. Turn off most lights and get the house pretty dark. Candles or oil lamps are great since they're longer wavelengths of light and help to start the process of melatonin production (think of the sun going down). Along the same lines, f.lux for my computer to do the same thing filtering out the…
  • I've been vegan for 7 years. Feel free to add me. My food diary is open.
  • I did that for 2 weeks about a month ago but I replaced every meal with a smoothie. Since then I've done 1-2 meals a day with a smoothie instead of solid food. I love it and it's not as many calories as you would think. Mine have typically been between 300 and 600 calories which, for a meal, isn't pretty good.
  • I've known 3 people who had very high cholesterol and all of them added legumes to their diet. The soluble fiber helps clean out the insides. edited because I didn't proof read...
  • I usually add 1Tbsp of raw hemp protein to smoothies. I tried pea protein but I can't seem to get past the taste. Quinoa is great. Check out Brendan Brazier's book Thrive. There's some great stuff in that book.
  • I've had the same thing happen. You'll learn to ignore them. My favorite places to go out to eat are thai and indian restaurants. If you're looking to make stuff at home check out Manjula's Kitchen, Vegan 8, and Finding Vegan. You can also look on pinterest. There's a good bit of vegan recipes on there.
  • Without knowing exactly what you're eating, I would guess that a lot of the carbs are not only sugars but also fiber. Fiber isn't broken down by the body therefore doesn't cause a rise in blood glucose levels or contribute any calories.
  • There are a lot of vegan references online. No Meat Athlete Brendan Brazier (Thrive) Rich Roll Tim VanOrden Happy Cow (for restaurants and other stuff) Dr. McDougall's Newsletter I'd highly recommend learning as much as you can about vitamins and minerals. MFP can be a great tool to track your intake. The best advice I can…
  • 7 year vegan, feel free to add me.
  • Here are some resources to check out. They really helped me when I first became vegan and I keep learning a lot from them. Brendan Brazier's book Thrive Tim VanOrden's website and youtube channel Neal Barnard's book Food for Life Matt Frazier's website No Meat Athlete Rich Roll's website
  • Ok, I'll be the first to slightly disagree. If all you're concerned with is weight loss yes, I completely agree with if it fits your macros. For overall health, I could not disagree more. The biggest example I'm going to throw out there is Trans-fatty acids/hydrogenated oils. The CDC even says that Trans fat consumption…
  • Do you have access to a Whole Foods, or are there any places around you that you can get fresh ground peanut butter? Fresh ground keeps on the counter for over a week and doesn't even separate. If you can find some place that sells home made jam/preserves, I don't think that would go bad in a week's time. If you don't end…
  • Took a while but I finally found what I was looking for. To see what the terms free range and organic actually mean, check this out: http://www.nationalchickencouncil.org/about-the-industry/chickopedia/ Seeing that you disagree with animal cruelty, these terms don't necessarily mean cruelty free depending on what your view…
  • Ok so I'm not going to answer the question that you actually asked but I'm going to give you some resources for how to be a healthy vegetarian/vegan since you are correct that your french fry/grilled cheese diet is definitely not. Brendan Brazier's book Thrive Tim VanOrden's website and youtube channel Neal Barnard's book…
  • FYI, 38B and 36C are equivalent bra sizes or "sister sizes." When band size decreases the cup letter increases to keep the same cup volume. http://www.brasize.com/bra-sister-size.html
  • My boobs get smaller when I run. Does that count?
  • I agree with everything about this post. Thanks, you gave me a few new things to check out.
  • I've been vegan for 7 years. I go through sputs of being highly active but I was lucky to learn about fueling up right early on. I love Brendan Brazier's book Thrive. He's a vegan triathlete and his book is everything he learned on his way to being able to perform at his best. There are a bunch of recipes in it that I…
  • I'm a physicist/climber. Feel free to add me.
  • For veggies, find good recipes. Vegetarian and vegan websites usually have great recipes and omnivores can eat them too. Most people have a hard time eating veggies because they don't know how to cook them. As for fruits, whenever you go to the supermarket, just buy a nice selection of fruit. Apples, peaches, plums,…
  • The way I see it, everything else is estimated so I estimate my food too. BMR calculators are just not exact to each and every person, calories burned in exercise aren't exact, there is a lot of calorie output that isn't exactly measured through the day. If I was a little low on one thing and a little high on something…
  • I'm a huge fan of the Ezekiel breads.
  • I also find it easier outside since I can pick a point a little bit a way and tell myself 'just to that tree' then I make it to that tree and say 'little further, how about that stump up there.' Mind games...
