  • I second Cabin Pressure! Comedy made for audio. You can purchase all the seasons (iTunes) and there are two specials, “Molokai” and the finale, “Zurich.”
  • Corn and Black Bean Salsa 1 red (or yellow or orange) pepper, chopped fine 6 scallions, green parts, chopped bunch cilantro, chopped 2 cans black beans, rinsed and drained 2 cans corn, rinsed and drained 1/4-1/2 cup sour cream (light can be used, even fat free) sharp cheddar cheese (optional) salt to taste Mix together and…
  • Def counting cals! 1000. . .2000. . .3000. . .4000. . . o:)
  • Just discovered a new Snicker's bar--Rockin' Nut Road. Same as the Snicker's Dark, but it has almonds instead of peanuts. YUM! I've only been able to find them at Wal-Mart and even then I have to really look to find them. 230 cals Really hoping they'll keep this bar around and eventually do minis.
  • 1/2 cup cottage cheese 1 scoop ON Rich Chocolate Protein powder 1 T unsweetened cocoa (cuz I love dark chocolate!) sprinkle of instant coffee, optional 4 coffee cubes (I take a pot of coffee and pour it into ice cube trays, freeze, pop them out and store in a bag for use with my smoothies) 1/2 cup almond milk or Skim
  • I haven't tried this recipe for whole wheat cottage cheese dill bread but it sounds wonderful! Anything that increases whole wheat bread's protein ratio is a win-win for this carb lover. http://www.foodiewithfamily.com/2013/01/23/no-knead-cottage-cheese-dill-bread-papas-dilly-bread/
  • I just recently tried this and it worked quite well. Aluminum foil Whole chicken Seasonings Ball up 4 large squares of aluminum foil and set in the bottom of your slow cooker. Rinse, pat dry and season chicken. Place on top of foil. Let cook on high 4 hours or low for about 6. (Chicken was thawed, not frozen)
  • Our Wal-mart started selling Green Mountain Farms Greek, a cream cheese/greek yogurt blend. It's delicious and I think it would work quite well as a substitute. I also second Laughing Cow--it's yummy too!
  • I got my White Cheddar powder from Wal-Mart. They have a huge selection of different flavors. I pop in a paper bag, spritz with spray oil and shake on the powder. Brand is Kernel Season's. 1/4 tsp=2 cals sodium=75mg protein=0 carb=0 fat=0 Hope that helps someone!
  • First time I made brown rice, my husband said it looked like headless maggots. :noway: Regardless, I prefer it over white.
  • Never heard of a neck gaiter. Thanks for the tip!
  • I have learned to make room for chips in my calorie count. An ounce of my fave BBQ Kettle cooked is normally 140 calories. Very doable. I also indulge in 5 Dark chocolate Hershey Kisses, which equal 100 calories, on most days. I don't chew them, but let them melt in my mouth and, you know what, it totally satisfies my…
  • Today was the last day. My time came in at 12:59 pace per mile. I am pleased and very happy to be done with the program! Goal!
  • I am finishing my last day of C25K tomorrow--the 5K. Though I never thought I would be able to run, (jog. . .whatever) the program is well thought out to help you gain both confidence and strength every week. I took up C25K when my weight loss plateaued after doing a mix of the same exercises for about 6 months (HIIT,…

  • I am on my last run--the 5K--tomorrow. I can't believe I'm almost done! Someone mentioned W5 being tough for them. It was for me too. I think I spent two or three weeks just repeating W5. I finally just moved on. I still have to stop on occasion (found out through RunKeeper app that the first 1.5 of my route is all uphill,…
  • Ha! I think the joke is on me! I just looked ahead to week 7 and--surprise, surprise--no more intervals, it's ALL running/jogging. I was expecting to return to intervals. . .
  • rps67--WAHOOO!! I am so excited to hear you say you made the decision to quit smoking. That is HUGE! :flowerforyou: And you guys. . .I did it! I finished the 22 minute run without stopping! I went at 8:30 PM EST, so it was dark by the time I finished. The breeze was perfect, the temperature is in the 70s and I just kept…
  • Thanks to each of you for your responses. Maybe it's age, maybe it's just that mental training runners talk about. . .whatever the reason, I will continue. Today is W6D3. Dreading it or not, I'm going to try. At least the weather is going to be nice! Now if I can just get the neighbor down the road to keep their dogs from…
  • Thanks for the encouragement, I'm 44 too! I like that I *can* run, it's just frustrating that I can't conquer these long intervals. Sometimes I feel like if I slow down anymore, I'll be going backwards! I wanted to ask something else. . .do you do just the C25K workout and stop when it says, "workout complete?" My…
  • Probably depends on the quality of the chocolate (additives and preservatives, etc.). It's certainly gotta be better than milk chocolate.
  • Yes, the 100 cal packs of those cocoa roasted are a great deterrent from eating more than I should! Doesn't dry pudding mix have thickeners in it? So when added to already thick Greek yogurt. . .yeah, I could see paste happening.
  • Greek yogurt with cocoa roasted almonds, crushed, (100 calorie packs) is delicious!
  • Don't know anything about the one mentioned. I have a Polar FT7. It works well. There was a bit of a learning curve in using it but then I don't read manuals.
  • Completed W4D1 today and had to stop on the first 5 minute with 40 seconds to go! I'd just gone up a slight rise and met with a neighbor whose children like to laugh, so I was aggravated. Anyhow, I stopped for a few paces then finished the last 20 or so seconds. Then, on the next 5 minuter, someone pulls up to ask for…
  • I started 3 weeks ago, so I'm on W4D1 on Monday. Because I worked out (Cardio Step) for the last 6 months, I didn't struggle with sore muscles or any of that, and I'm used to setting a breathing pattern bc I power-walked years ago. My concern is more about heart rate. I have a HRM (Polar FT7) and have found that when I ran…
  • Emerald cocoa roasted Almonds, 100 cal pack, crushed, and stirred into a vanilla Greek yogurt.
  • Welcome! I think you'll find the general consensus is that the HRMs with chest straps give the most accurate readings. I have a Polar FT7. I'm not in love with the bulkiness of the watch but that's the only negative I have found. It does take a bit to figure out how to operate it, but I'm also the type who would rather…
  • Thank you. Since I am technically still trying to lose, I have often wondered if I'd be better off getting down to within sight of my goal weight before trying to eat to gain muscle. Since lifting, and since losing these last five pounds and beginning strength training, I find myself more hungry. The cals keep going down…
  • Sounds wonderful. I luv dark chocolate melted over almonds or raisins, blueberries. . . Yum!
  • You might try looking into an upscale consignment shop. They will turn around and sell your suits and shirts for you and you get to keep a portion of the sale price. It's not much, but it's something.
