  • Re: "if you're full on 800 cals, how did you get fat?" I think the main possibilities are: 1: OP is underestimating calories in 2: OP used to eat high calorie foods that weren't filling, then switched to low calorie very filling foods. 3: OP is really short and sedentary, and gained weight very slowly (ie, eating a little…
  • I never use artificial sweeteners. Besides tasting horrible, they make me sick to my stomach and give me migraines in larger quantities. I'm not trying to lose weight, so the calories in real sugar aren't a big concern for me.
  • On a side note, in some countries, nutritionist is the term for the regulated, certified professional. If the OP is outside the US, the advice to seek a dietician may not be accurate. That said, what ever certification this nutritionist may have, she's clearly not qualified for her job.
  • There are people who successfully do low carb and high intensity exercise. But they eat way more than 700 calories a day. Low carb may be a problem for you, but it's more likely that the real issue is that you're not eating enough.
  • Not necessary for weight loss, however some people (like me) feel hungrier eating high carb foods. For example, I could have rice with a meal and be ravenous after, but if I have the same meal minus the rice I'll feel full (despite having fewer calories). If this isn't an issue for you, or if you don't have a medical…
  • Walking is also really good for mobility, so as you age you can maintain independence and don't have to worry about falls, etc as much.
  • Unless by "no carbs" you mean no grains/high starch foods, I don't think its possible. Fruit and vegetables have carbs too. The only way you could do true no carb vegetarian would be to eat nothing but eggs and dairy (and even dairy has some carbs). Low carb vegetarian is certainly possible, but not no carb. Even eating…
  • I don't know of anything specific that would "counteract" trans fats, but foods and lifestyle habits that reduce inflammation aren't a bad idea. Things like fatty fish, fresh veggies, homemade bone broth, turmeric, etc. Basically whole, nutrient dense foods. Then there are things like exercise, sleep, stress management,…
  • How are you determining portion sizes? Are you eyeballing it, or using measuring cups/food scale? It seems to me that you may be underestimating your portions. If that's the case, you may not be so far under your calorie goal as you think.
  • I also have IBS, and I second elimination diet. One of the biggest things that's helped me is learning what foods trigger my symptoms (cow milk, rice, pizza, wheat in large portions, fast food etc). Supplement wise I take a probiotic and digestive enzymes. I'm diligent about managing stress. That got me 85% better*. What…
  • If you can have milk from animals other than cows, I find that goat milk lasts about 3 or 4 weeks. It also tastes more like cows milk than plant milks, if that matters to you at all.
  • Here's something I did to sneak in more activity. We all go to the bathroom at least once a day, right? So, do five squats before you sit down. Heck, if you don't mind possibly getting weird looks from people, you can do that before any time you sit down.
  • I've got three basic criteria for keeping clothes: 1: Does it fit reasonably well? 2: Is it in decent condition/can it be repaired without great expense?* 3: Does it have sentimental value?** *An exception can be made for 2 if the damaged clothing can have other uses. For example, I will keep really worn out jeans and use…
  • I typically drink goats milk. If I drink cows milk I go for whole and grass fed. But I tend to avoid it as it makes me feel like I'm in a mucinex commercial.
  • My right eye sticks out further than my left eye. I wish I could make them symmetrical.
  • This happens to me with apples if I don't have some fat with them. So I eat apples with sunbutter or almond butter.
  • Yoga is great for flexibility, and you can find lots of free videos on hulu and youtube.
  • Stomach size has nothing to do with it. Appetite is controlled by two hormones called ghrelin (tells you when to eat) and leptin (tells you when to stop). If you're hungry no matter how much you eat, you could have lepton resistance. And only eating raw fruits, vegetables and nuts likely won't fix that.
  • Regarding feeling tired and hungry, I'd hazard a guess that you're not getting enough calories, fat, and protein.
  • Why are you doing this? What benefits do you think you'll get that you can't get by just cutting back coffee and eating more fruits and vegetables as part of your regular eating plan?
  • Actually, there is a relationship between Type 1 diabetes and celiac disease. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3746085/
  • I'd say it helps, rather than "works." For me at least, depression is like a hydra: multiple heads. The birth control just knocked out the "hormonally induced rage explosion, followed by severe self hatred" head.
  • This is what worked for me: 1: Getting off medication. (This is something you have to discuss with your doctor. Medication helps many people, I'm just not one of them) 2: Getting on birth control to keep hormonal mood swings in check. 3: Taking St. John's Wort. (DO NOT take this if you are taking an SSRI. They act…
  • If you are not able to communicate completely honestly with her before a relationship starts, then you likely won't be able to do the communication necessary to keep the relationship healthy. Without it, you'll be in for a lot of drama and heart break.
  • There's a really simple way to find out. Tell her how you feel, then ask her how she feels.
  • If you want to lower your carbs without lowering calories, then you have to eat more fat and/or protein. There's no way around that, as carbs, fat, and protein are the only sources of calories. ETA: If you're not trying to go ketogenic, then you may not need to be so restrictive with your carbs. Perhaps you'd find it…
  • When I asked my dermatologist about this, she recommended Mederma. I looked into it, and it was really expensive, and the main ingredients were onion extract and aloe. Since I grow onions and aloe myself, I figured it'd be worth a try to make something myself. I have seen a difference in my stretchmarks using a homemade…
  • For cheap veggies, there are a few options. If you can, grow some. Seeds are dirt cheap, gardening gets you outside and active, and it's a great learning experience for kids. Frozen are usually cheaper than fresh, and they last longer. And when you do buy fresh, buy things that are in season.
