Make sure you're stretching your legs well, and if you have access to a high density foam roller, roll out your IT bands...mine always get tight when I run...

Sugar can be confusing, but if you can make a mental note about where you're getting the sugar from...for instance, sugar from fruit is generally considered acceptable. I would really try and keep an eye on sugar that's not "natural" that is to say, doesn't come from a piece of fruit of veggie. That is the sugar intake you…

Hello! One gallon per day is 128 ounces, or about 4 liters. I wouldn't worry about that being too much, and water retention is based on sodium intake (not water intake--in fact drinking water prevents you from retaining it), but if you're worried here's a link to a calculator that will tell you how much you need based on…

I had a really hard time with this, and I found that part of the problem was what and when I ate before the workout. A small bowl of cereal for breakfast before my morning workout has proven to be the best for me, but I think probably everyone is different. Also, I have to eat at least an hour before my workout. Again,…

I've heard that if you feel up to it, a light workout is OK...as long as your illness isn't in your lungs. If you have a cough or chest congestion, you should wait it out.

Hey! I have a similar problem, I carry a lot of my leg fat in my inner thighs. It's frustrating. Anyway, a great exercise you can do at home is side lunges. Combine those with the lunges where you step forward and across your body with one leg then lunge (crossover lunges? sorry don't know the name) it's a killer leg…

They say you burn about 100 calories per mile you walk OR run, obviously an incline would make a difference...so if you averaged a 4.0, you went about 3 miles or 300 calories. Sounds close...

So I'm wondering how to count kettlebells in my exercise. I work with a trainer, and some days resemble an hour of weight lifting, some days are mostly cardio and some are a combination. I wear my HRM, but I am pretty sure weight lifting screws with the calorie count since it's compacted breathing or whatever, not straight…

You really should get checked out, but that being said... My heartrate is regularly in the 190s, I'm in great shape and have been working out regularly for a few years now. I asked my doc about it, and she said there are a couple things to pay attention to. 1. Does your heart rate drop quickly, or stay high for a long time…

Hi everyone! Hopefully someone can help me out, I'm not really sure how to search the internet for an answer. My question has to do with calorie burn as calculated by my HRM. My heartrate tends to get extremely high when I work out, like in the 185-195 range. I'm otherwise perfectly healthly, my weight is in the normal…

I agree about the Arnold's 15 grain, it's delish! I've heard (but never tried) that ezekiel bread is a great option also...

i've heard a good guide for protein intake is half your body weight, so i changed my goal on MFP to 70g. the preset level is rather low. especially if you're doing any weights in your workouts, you're fine. (i think you have to consume a crazy high amt for it to be bad?)

hmm well nuts and dairy products are always great ways to get those extra calories... can you try to split the calories up during the day, adding 100 calories to each meal, so it won't be so overwhelming at the end of the day?
-
hmm well i also have a polar f11 and bike at about 12 miles per hour, and my calories/hour is usually around 500....i would definitely be wary of this, funny it would be so far off though....

I love reading articles and blogs about fitness....anyone have any websites to recommend?

mmm i know what you mean, i absolutely love wendy's frosty's with the m&ms but they are something like 600 calories sooo i let myself order them occassionally, but i immediately dump half in the garbage. honestly, usually about 5 bites is satisfying. and you're right, better to indulge your craving than overeat crap!

yes, I'm usually around 3 liters of water per day. My goal specifically is to lose body fat, I have been working with a trainer for the last year and I know I have some sweet muscles laying just beneath that layer of fat. I'm proud of that and want to show them off to the world! I have cut out most simple carbs (I…

lol but I don't want this to be my ideal weight!! Well I guess I'll keep going, and hopefully something decides to give (just in time for summer!)

I believe bumping is when someone adds a new post to a thread to keep it near the top for maximum viewing, or something along those lines

So in the last couple years I've managed to lose about 35 lbs, but I seem to have hit a plateau. Since early december I haven't lost a single pound, despite closely monitoring my calories (eating between 1200 and 2000 per day, occasionally going over  ) and upping my workouts (5-6 times per week, 45-1hour per day).…

try eating nuts as a snack every day, they tend to have mostly healthy fats and will keep you feeling full.

I've had that problem too! eating healthier than ever before, TONS of fiber and TONS of water so i don't think that's the issue but i agree the activia yogurt and the kraft liveactive cheese...2% colbyjack stick has something like 80 calories, a great midday snack and it has worked wonders for the "problem". if all else…

Hey everyone, I've been using this chart for about a year now and love it, thought it might come in handy for some of you. It makes calculations based on the numbers you input, but overall it's just a convenient tool for measuring inches loss. Here's the link for women:…

I was just reading an article about weight plateauing, and it said that after you've lost 5-10% of your body weight, the body has to adjust to its new weight. Sometimes this can take a while, but if you continue what you're doing you should start losing again soon. Also, if you've been really tight on your calories,…

I have experienced a similar reaction from people, I've so far managed to lose about 35 lbs and would like to lose 10-15 more which would give me a bmi of about 18...so obviously I know I'm healthy. It helps to keep in mind that a lot of times people are just trying to be supportive, letting you know that you look good…

My understanding is that if you are burning 1000 calories per day exercising, you should be consuming a total of at least 2200 calories. Your body needs at least 1200 calories just to function healthily, if you burn it all off working out it will actually kill your metabolism. Sounds counterintuitive, but you do have to…
