Please explain bumping???

Have read all the newbie stuff, but don't find anything explaining the "bumping" going on.

  I believe bumping is when someone adds a new post to a thread to keep it near the top for maximum viewing, or something along those lines

  So, people write "bump" just to show they have viewed or commented on someone's post?

  No. People bump a post just to get it to the top of the page to catch other readers' eyes.
