Here is something useful - go to nutritiondata.com and find lower glycemic content fruit. Stick with those and limit to a reasonable level every day. I allow 2 pieces of fruit a day and 1 thing of added sugar (yogurt, juice bar, dessert, cereal). I eat sugar free bread and avoid all processed foods with added sugar (other…

I have done a lot of different lifting, but I think StrongLifts 5x5 is the best beginner program. There are only 5 lifts and you alternate 2 groups, 3 times a week. Squats, Bench Press, Rows one day and Squats, Overhead Lifts, and Deadlifts the next. Then the first group again, etc. You start with the unweighted Olympic…

Recognition is the first step. Now do something to make yourself happy that doesn't involve food or your looks. Go live.

I did Tabata yesterday for 30 minutes. The trainer had me do surf jumps, jump kicks, bicycles, mountain climbers, bounce squats, pulse planks, and crunches. I was crawling by the end. LOVED it!

I love deadlifting! My favorite lift. My advice is similar to those above. Start with the bar across the top of your feet/toes. Bend your knees more, get your butt lower. The bar should touch your shins when you are in the proper position to start the lift. Push up with your legs, don't pull up with your back. Keep your…

I overheat. Sometimes, I just feel warmer than usual and it sort of radiates from the inside out. This kind is not too miserable. It's over and gone within minutes. Other times, I light up like a friggin furnace. Sweat rolls off my face and my skin becomes damp all over (as do my clothing). I'm red faced and crabby as hell…

Yes. Email and call them. Explain everything. Buy the token to secure the account. It'll be ok. Also, since I bought the authenticator, I've had no issues being hacked. Prior to doing so, I was hacked twice in spite of all my efforts (except the token). I played wow in beta and ever since, with a one year hiatus. WHen I…

"Stormie" on steam. Only play Dungeon Defenders right now, my son plays Dayz, but looking for more games that might tweak my interest.

I really doubt that it's fat over the course of a single week or even month. I always put on about 5 pounds of bloat when I eat a lot of carbs (sugar, potatos, pasta, etc.). It takes me a good month or two to recover and lose it again, but trust me, it's not 5 pounds of fat. Take a deep breath and go on with life. Eat…

Dropping by 500 will only get you a 1 pound per week loss. (500 X 7 = 3500 = 1 lb). Dropping by 1000 will get you a 2 pound loss. Also check your settings. Do you have gender, age, activity level, etc. accurately selected? One other thing, did you put a higher activity level in the other calculations (outside of MFP)? That…

No offense, but... It's us users that create the majority of the MFP food and exercise databases, so don't point the finger of blame at MFP itself. After you've been here a while and double checked your food values against a site like nutritiondata.com, you'll accumulate a 'favorites' list of accurate items. If something…

Internet/MFP police here. I'm giving this thread a ticket for breaking the rules (locking it due to hostility contained within). Have a happy New Year! Stormieweather MFP Forum Police...err...Moderator.

I've been at my company for 6 years. We've almost always had a Christmas party with full bar & food, but only the first year and last year involved bonuses. This year we *may* get one (it hasn't been announced, and they're based on profitability) and the Christmas party has been pared down to a Christmas lunch. Got a COL…

Also, someone up there mentions that fat comes off from all over? Not necessarily true. Fat loss comes first from the last place to store it, but not evenly all over. Sometimes, the fat lost is from around the internal organs and won't show at all to the eye, but it shows on the scale. It's not as simple or clear cut as…

As someone who ALWAYS loses with a whoosh, I can tell you that it's true for me. My fat loss cycle is 2 weeks to 2 months, and is almost always preceded by jiggly fat areas. Literally, the fat feels less firm and more squishy to the touch. Also, the scale may not show a loss at all, but the tape measure will tell me…

It will get better, I promise. No matter how frustrated you are at them as teenagers, one day they'll turn back into humans and start to behave more responsibly. The two biggest tips I have are a) let them feel the effects of the consequences of their irresponsibility and b) always let them know you love them (but refuse…

I've been doing 5x5 for about 8 months. An hour burns approximately 175-225 calories. This includes 5min warmup and my normal TDEE of 70 per hour, as well as an additional 100 crunches on an exercise ball). So not very much...lol.

Yes. There's a time and place for making an effort to look hot, and Walmart is not one of them. :noway:

Was that Juice who was shot and bleeding on the floor of the brothel at the end??

Yes. Everything your body does takes energy...from growing skin, to digesting food, to breathing. Energy = calories in food terms. The majority of everyone's calories are from normal bodily functions. Moving around (showering, cooking, sitting, walking around your house) is usually only a small part of someone's total…

Just a note: If you are entering your weight changes in the MFP "check in" section, it will update your calorie goal every 10 pounds of loss.

Hi everyone :) Thanks for the invite, Steve! Hope to learn something new that will help me break this verrrrrry long plateau.

I have a strict schedule. I look at it the same as a doctor's appointment or a job...you show up, no excuses (or there will be consequences).

I smoked for 34 years before quitting in 2009 and joining MFP and a gym. I could not exercise at all, which is why I put on so much weight. A flight of stairs would have me reaching for my inhaler. I took bronchodilators and used a nebulizer. I smoked between 2-4 packs a day. :embarassed: I smoked for so long because I…
