Agreed, you have to do things in life that matter, especially spending time with people. My family don't get together for meals or anything so I just go out occasionally for for a meal with my best friend. For me, trying to figure out calories when I'm out adds a kind of pressure, and it starts to make me obsessive; the…

I sometimes watch that programme My 600lb Life, and the surgeon who does the weight loss surgery looks at doing skin reduction surgery when they are nowhere near their target weight - it's because a lot of excess skin can end up hampering mobility, not to mention skin issues like fungal infections and tearing, so by taking…

I tried this a few years ago; it seemed a good possibility as there are certain foods you can eat unlimited quantities of. Unfortunately, as I have limitations on what I can actually eat due to health issues, I found myself getting really bored quickly - I was having the same things over and over, and eventually got sick…

I used to have sweetener in my coffee, then I started spending a lot of time at my (then) partner's house and he only had sugar. It got to the point where I tried sweetener again and it tasted rank! I still have sugar in coffee but limit the amount of coffee I drink - it's a treat now as opposed to a daily (or more) habit.

Since working on losing weight I've really limited how often I go out for food, especially as I find it really difficult to estimate the calories in it. If I was going out for my birthday though, I wouldn't worry about counting calories that day. Just enjoy your meal and get back on track the next day.

Doesn't it make sense that if you eat too few calories your body would slow your metabolism, to try to prevent any extreme weight loss? My health problems are very complex and unfortunately I just get sent to one specialist after another. I know my GP would say it's fine to lose weight if I do it sensibly, plus I know my…

Thanks, I'll try that. I can clearly see my backside is getting smaller so that's good. :)
-
I'm still a bit confused. :o I'll see if I can find a 'dummies guide' online. Thanks :)

The pre-packaged stuff (ie ready made) tends to have a lot of stuff added to it that I'd prefer not to eat. All kinds of things to 'flavour' it. :/ Maybe processed is the word I should have used.

I too am a chocoholic. I stopped keeping milk chocolate in the house which is my favourite and instead have a bar of plain, dark chocolate (Morrisons Saver). It helps satisfy cravings, is healthier, and because it's so much stronger than milk chocolate I eat a lot less. I do find not having stuff in the house helps, as the…

I too have Fibromyalgia as well as M.E. and some other conditions. I struggle with preparing food due to exhaustion etc, making pre-packaged food much easier for me to eat although it's unhealthier. I'm trying to change that when I'm able to, but I think the really important thing is to just take it as it comes. It's…

It's not about 'understanding that weight fluctuates' - many people know this but using the scales, particularly on a daily basis, still becomes obsessive for them. Of course not everyone experiences this, but to say it's simply about understanding basic information is wrong.

Information online says eating too few calories can slow your metabolism, which would hinder weight loss. I think mine is slow enough already. :/ I also have to be careful of side effects that could make me ill, due to chronic health problems; it doesn't take much to throw me off completely and land me in bed for days.

Nope, not bothering with low fat options. :) I'm having some nuts and seeds now, as well as things like Tuna, so hopefully that'll fix the deficit.

I will now. :) I feel a lot better having gone on the forums and asked; it seems like I can be much more relaxed about it now.
-
Ah right, that makes sense.

Thanks, it's been discouraging in the weeks I don't lose anything but I'll stick with it and know that it'll come off eventually.
-
Thanks, I'm working on more protein and fat now. Good to know the carb number isn't that important.

Had to look that up. Madness! :open_mouth:

Sorry, not sure what glycogen replenishment means in relation to this? Actually not sure what it means, full stop.

I don't tend to measure myself as I find it very awkward, but you hear about this kind of thing with weight loss all the time. People lose fat and gain muscle, so there's no technical weight loss (sometimes there's even a gain) but they've lost fat and are stronger.

Couldn't agree more. If you're weighing every day, it becomes obsessive and your whole day can depend on what the scales say. Not worth the anxiety and mood swings it causes.
-
I didn't realise we were only allowed to have one opinion about everything..... Having looked it up online, a lot of people get skin break-outs during initial stages of detoxing.
-
I had years of starvation in my teens and would weigh myself multiple times a day. It's amazing how depressing it is when you haven't lost any weight or (much worse) seem to have gained. I wouldn't recommend daily weighing as it quickly becomes obsessive and can really knock your mood down. Since I started losing weight…

It could well be your body trying to detox everything. It's not the same but I did a course in hair and make up years ago, and part of it was a theory class in skin care. We learned that using things like deep-cleansing face packs can cause major break-outs, which people were assuming was a bad thing - but in fact it was…

I recently watched a programme in which people with eating disorders were at a therapy centre to help them recover. Part of that included a complete diet overhaul so everything could be monitored. One woman experienced the worse withdrawal from sugary things - she felt awful, was throwing up etc. I think if your changes…

Okay. I'd thought carbs might have affected it as I had a week where I seemed to have gained weight - my calories were fine but I'd started going a bit over on the carbs. Maybe just a coincidence then. Thanks.

Wouldn't eating too many carbs halt weight loss?
