  • I always get it it colder weather as well. Never when its warm.
  • Please don't get frustrated and worry too much about how far you can go if you're a beginner runner. Everything will take time and eventually you will build up your cardio. When I first took up running about 12 years ago I couldn't run 1 kilometer without having to stop for a few minutes. Then after a little while I was…
  • Agree with you 100%. I run 6 days a week and a 45-50 minute run burns about 500 calories. 12-1500 calories would have to be at least a two to two and a half hour a day workout. I think the calories are off and not actually burning that much.
  • Being an avid runner, I can't cut carbs. I find the days I have lower carbs and go for a run, I have no energy as compared to when I have the amount of carbs I'm suppose to have. I find following my macros and eating my normal amount of calories keeps my weight maintained.
  • I guess everyone is different when it comes to cheat days. Some never have them and others do. I've been at the same weight for the last five years having a cheat day every Saturday. I eat and drink what I want on that day and I've never gained weight from it. Sticking to my routine the other six days of course. The only…
  • I've been using Stevia for a couple of months now and have never felt dizzy.
  • My mother was an alcoholic until the day she died and just because you stop drinking for a while doesn't mean everything's better. She could go 3 months without touching a drink and then she would disappear for a week on a drinking binge. She was only 67 when she passed away. If you have to turn to alcohol for your…
  • Agree 100%, Fruits and veggies all have calories so if you're trying to lose weight, you need to track them, Gala apples have 80 calories, a banana on average has about 90, and really watch avocado's, They have good fats but are high in calories. One avocado has about 300 calories if you eat the whole thing
  • When run for 60 minutes on the treadmill at 7.0 it tells me I've burned 904 calories so I'm sure spinning burns the same or even more. I'm sure if it's off, it's not by much.
  • This is exactly right. I've been an avid runner for 10 years and you need the right shoes. There is no particular way to run, you just move how your body goes. If you try to run a different way then you normally do, you could end up with some type of injury. Just curious, are you a bit overweight? I'm asking because when I…
  • Every one here is right. Don't worry about your speed and how fast you finish. That will come with time as you get your cardio up. When I first started running, I had to stop numerous times doing a 5k. Then it became only 5 times, then 4 and so on until I could do a full 5k without stopping. I've been running now seriously…
  • This is exactly right. It's when you go over your calorie intake that makes you gain weight, not your sugar intake.

  • As an avid runner 5 days a week and box once a week, just wondering where anyone gets energy to workout with cutting carbs? I find the days I haven't had as many carbs as I usually do, I seem to run out of energy half way through my run and feel more tired than usual. When I have a regular carb day, I can run all day and…
  • This is the perfect exercise for that.
  • This is so true talking about calories. You can have junk food if you want but have to watch your calorie intake. You need to log and track everything. If a burger is 500 calories, then have half at 250 calories or a quarter of a burger at 125 calories with a side salad or something else. Everything is fine in moderation…
  • Looks like we hit a nerve and upset him. Take a deep breathe John as everything will be fine (lol).
  • Yes you are right as I edited my last post, he didn't say how often he does this. I'm assuming it's not everyday as that would take a toll on the body. My apologies.
  • I absolutely agree with you, this is the point I tried to get across about burning that many calories unless you have something planned ahead like a marathon or some sort of organized bike tour but not everyday. There has to be a limit to what a realistic goal is, to how many calories you can handle by not overdoing it to…
  • Totally agree with you, if you have a triathlon, marathon, bike tour, or whatever scheduled, then that's awesome to burn those extra calories, but not sure of the relevance for trying to burn a record amount of calories. I'm not going to try to burn 4-5000 calories a day unless there's a reason. As long as you stick to…
  • This is true for someone wanting to keep their weight the same and maintaining but if you're looking to lose weight, do lots of cardio. You can still do weights but focus more on cardio until you get where you want to be, then you can focus on weights more. Cardio will burn way more calories then weights but weights burn…
  • I've done 7 half marathons and run on a regular basis about 4-5 days a week and this is the perfect advice. A little at a time. If you're running at say 5.5 now and are comfortable and can run and hour, bumping it up to 7.0 is way too much and would be too fast to keep up for a long period of time. Try say 5.7-5.8 and see…
  • Totally agree, Nobody looks like that on 1000 calories a day, Maybe 4000. Geez I have trouble not being hungry on 1700 calories a day, nevermind 1000.
  • I do a lot of running on the treadmill in the winter and it's definitely not the same as running outside. I've done 7 half marathon's and run 10-15 k on every run I do outside. What helps if you can't get outside is try increasing the incline on your treadmill with your runs. I normally have mine at about 2.0 but most…

  • Aeloine started talking about young guys in their 20's who bulk up by drinking a gallon of milk which had NOTHING to do with what the op said. All she was doing was asking if 1CUP of milk was sufficient, not a gallon. Do you think she cares about young guys in their 20's drinking a gallon of milk and ingesting 5500…
  • Everything you just commented on may be helpful for someone else. As usual in mfp everyone is getting away from the OP's situation and talking about other people and what they would do. My suggestion is for HER and not a young guy in his 20's. She's not going to ingest 5500 calories, is not bulking up, is not going to…
  • Wow a gallon of milk? If your talking homogenized milk, a gallon is 2500 calories. Skim milk would be around 1300 calories and 144 grams of protein. You would obviously get more from homogenized but if I was bulking up, I would go with skim so I could at least eat 1200 calories worth of food (lol). Felicia, I would go with…
  • I'm part of a boxing club and every class includes a lot of leg work and doing stairs is part of it. There are 4 stories with about 10 to 15 stairs in between floors and we do about 10 sets of stairs up and down every class. We also do squats, split jumps, squat jumps and skipping. These are excellent exercises for legs.…
  • I agree, start with you walking and then eventually a very light jog. You may want to do a light jog for say 3-4 minutes, then walk for 2, light jog for 3-4 minutes and so forth. You will get faster to a regular run eventually but don't rush into it. It will take some time to build up your cardio. Good luck to you and hope…
  • I agree 100% with this. A lot of beginners do this to get faster eventually when they're ready. When I first started running, I would run a few k, then rest about 2 minutes, then run again until eventually got to the point where I am now doing half marathons. It takes time and don't rush into it to be faster. That will…
