• Every single morning right after waking up. I track weight outside of MFP too so that I can keep a 4-week running average and this flattens out daily fluctuations and let's me see the real, over-time trend in my weight.
• Get a heart rate monitor! I've used mine for 18 months straight. I'll never do a workout without it.
• Hit my one year mark today! Now I'm on to years two and three like yourself...
• Graph is from EXCEL. I put my weight in to LoseIt.com every day (in addition to MFP) for the sole purpose of being able to export the data in a useful format. I've posted request to MFP blog for months and months that they really need to allow us to export our own data if we want. PLEASE ADD THIS FEATURE so I can drop…
• I'm up to 260 days in a row with this site. I hit my target after 3 months. Every calorie I've eaten or burned has been tracked. It's a part of my life now and I'm glad to say I've held my target weight for 5 months. I treat it as a simple math problem. Calories in. Calories out. Just need to balance the equation and…
• I've read that gaining 1-2 pounds of muscle per month is about the most you can do with reasonable workouts (and no steroids, obviously).
• Thanks Mideon! I think you nailed it. I do do all my workouts at night. It's the only time I can find to consistently fit it in. It was great for weight loss, but not so good for muscle gain. I pound a bar and a shake after each workout to get a total of about 30-40g of protein, but it's a one time deal within 10-20…
• Thanks. I'm starting to convince myself that part of the problem is that I'm not eating enough calories to significantly build muscle. I think I might try adding 200-300 calories a day to my intake in the form of a protein drink. I currently drink them when I exercise, but I always stay within my 'maintain weight' calorie…
• Holy cow! Amazing. Great work. Like you I have counted every single calorie that enters my body for the past 4 months and I lost 30 pounds in 3 months. (seems paltry compared to your feat!) By being so diligent you can really measure the trade-offs in what you eat and it helps you make healthier decisions. That and regular…
• Holy cow! Nice work. You look great.
• I had similar weight loss goal and hit it recently. Here is my posting with the before and afters. I had to upload photos to PHOTOBUCKET and lower-case the
• That's what I've used to get back in shape. I have a Model E. I rowed in college so it wasnt new to me. I started at 30 min 5 times a week. Now I am rowing an hour at a time: 30 min warn up then 30 min intense. I lost almost 30 pounds in 3 months and my arms and back muscles are very defined already. I had to start working…
• I had 1 major plateau and two small ones during my weight loss. it look me 8 days to break it. What finally did it was eating MORE (like many people have said). You need to ensure you are eating all of your calories INCLUDING ANY CALORIES YOU BURN WORKING OUT! If you deprive your body of too much fuel it will start to slow…
• I am exercising 6 times a week, pretty intensely. It's become part of my lifestyle change and I love it. I actually think I'm addicted to cardio now. I feel "twitchy" if I don't row on my indoor rower for that day. I also run 3-5 miles on the weekends. So, yeah, I guess on those days I really have to load up on calories…
• Adidas miCoach Pacer: $140 give you pedometer and heartrate monitor that sync's to device that can give you active coaching in your ear while you run, jog, whatever. It helped me lose 25 pounds in 3 months! And my resting heart rate dropped by 20bpm.
• Read this user's blog posting on belly fat. Sounds like she found a method that works to target belly: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/blog/goldspaula/view/holy-cow-it-really-works-47284
• I've never used one like that, but I suspect you are right. If it isn't constantly measuring your HR, then its calorie calculations cannot be accurate. I wear a chest band HRM so my rate is measured throughout my workout. I use the adidas miCoach system, but Garmin, Polar, etc. all make wearable HRMs for working out that…

• I only work out in the evenings, and I've lost over 15 pounds in 8 weeks. The most important thing to do is exercise regularly. Find a time during the day that fits with your schedule and keep to it; don't worry about whether or not its the absolute biologically optimal time or not. Your "optimal" time is whenever you will…
• I was a collegiate rower; lightweight mens. I have a Concept 2 Model E erg in my basement and that is my preferred means of working out. I row 4 or 5 times a week on it. Its the best exercise there is, in my opinion: (almost) full body and very low impact. Also, done correctly rowing strengthens your lower back muscles…
• You need to eat back the calories burned during exercise or you are just shutting your metabolism down. Try inching your calorie intake UP. Seriously. It worked for me when I hit a 2 week plateau. I had cut too much and wasn't eating enough on exercise days. I knew my metabolism was slowing because I was getting…
• Yeah, the miCoach system from adidas has a heart rate monitor. It actually pairs to my rowing machine too so my rower can tell me my heart rate (proportional to the power I'm expending) real time. I love it, and am a huge fan of HR based training now. Your heart can't lie :) It's the truest teller of how hard your body is…
• I invested in a gym-quality machine (concept 2 rowing machine) to put in my basement so I had no excuse to give myself anymore. If you can afford it, remove all barriers to exercise (i.e., going to the gym...). Then you have no excuse NOT to exercise every other day. It worked for me and now that I have an expensive…
• Those definitely count. I was wondering more about electronic/technical systems that help you during your exercise, but any answers will do! Thanks.
• I hit an 8 day plateau after 2 weeks of pretty rapid weight loss. I had actually cut my calorie intake by TOO much in an attempt to break the plateau. I noticed I was getting really lethargic too. So I gave myself 2 days of greater intake (not cheating, per se; I ate about 500 cal more each day). Weight started shedding…
• I agree. Definitely noticeable. Keep it up!
