  • If you want to bulk, you probably shouldn't be down to 1600 cals. Unless she gave you a plan to lose weight? How can she conclude that 1750 is too much after only a week? what about water weight, time of the month, muscle memory, etc. She's a fitness model? What's her nutrition background? I have nothing against…
  • It's not THAT bad. Seems like many stall out at the 60 day mark. I did too. I didn't follow the schedule religiously either because of other activities but I did do all the workouts anyway (would take me 3 weeks to complete 2 weeks of workout). I liked the results. Is it worth the money? I would say it depends on what kind…
  • If you don't have actual problems related to low sodium consumption (ex: low blood pressure), I don't think you need to worry about it. I wouldn't increase it just because you're under MFP's "recommendation". I don't really keep track of my sodium levels but I know I'm never over.
  • Returning to regular lifting after 6 months of almost none... I've been doing between 10-12 reps so I'm sure my #s would be higher with 5 reps: Bench : 55 Squats: 50 (IT band and hips give me a hard time) DL: 75 lbs (slowly working my way back up over 100) Now I'm curious... I'll have to try the 5 reps Saturday!!!
  • Take your measurements!!! ... You probably lost inches/cm which is IMO just as good as losing weight. :)
  • I just looked at your diary... you had your goal set at 1200 but you were eating about 900 cals. Try to reach your goal not eat below it. Make sure you have lots of protein and veggies. Don't forget to eat some healthy whole grains which is as important when building muscles (research glycogen & muscles).
  • Hmmm.. I think you misunderstood. People are not stuck on 1200 or put blinders on everything else once they see the number, they are stuck on the fact that you plan to eat at a that amount have a "fully balanced diet". Many people had their opinion on cutting out certain food groups (I.e Milk and grains). But do what you…
  • You will be eating TDEE mainly when? 1200 is like 1000 cals under TDEE. Iit doesn't matter if you eat 1200 of LOTS of food or 1200 of crap food. You're still eating only 1200. You plan on doing 3-4 days of weights each day without eating any grains (carbs). Like above poster said: a plan to lose muscle mass and bone…
  • In my opinion, easiest way to do it is: Calculate your TDEE (how many cals you burn a day doing daily things- including workout). Substract 500 from that number. That number will be what you should be in eating in calories to lose 1 lbs per week (which is usually the recommended amount). For Macros: well it depends what…
  • Here is a bunch of examples for about 10g of protein (some have been mentionned) 1 oz. of meat, poultry, seafood or fish 1 extra large egg 2 flattened Tbsp. of peanut butter 2 Tbsp. (1/8 cup OR 10-12) nuts ¼ cup seeds (except chia) ½ cup legumes (e.g. lentils, chick peas, kidney beans…) ½ cup of hummus 1/3 cup tofu 2 ½…
  • What you consider a small portion is probably not the same as what I call a small protion. A portion of rice is 1/2 cup cooked. Maybe for you, 1 cup is small because before you would've had 2. (that's 300 cals right there - regular dressing on salad? minimum 100 cals) And as for not believing in counting calories...I…
  • Not wanting to be the devil's advocate here, but I've seen both sides of this. I have been in your shoes; I've been in their shoes... Sometimes, they are genuinely concerned. I have a friend that I was worried was having body image distortions (I've had them also) which is a serious mental illness. She kept saying she…
  • "this will confuse your body and the next day you'll feel happier (lack of starch & carbs will make you a bit grouchy)" I don't want to be grouchy so no thanks :) I don't find the "diet" too too bad, but I refuse to cut out grains (I only eat 1/2 cup three times a day). I also eat 2 portions of fruit per day to get my…
  • it's different for everyone. I didn't think I liked greek at first but after eating it for over a year, I prefer greek over regular. OIKOS cherry (fruit on the bottom) greek yogurt 0% is MY favorite. I find it's not as chalky/dry as other greek yogurts. The PC (superstore) greek yogurt is pretty good too. Liberte vanilla…
  • Here is a supported research on the benefits of whole grains (studies at the end) : http://wholegrainscouncil.org/whole-grains-101/what-are-the-health-benefits
  • Canadian, French, Irish, Native and Acadian (you'll need to google this one) :)
  • you actually NEED whole grains in your diet. My dietician wants me to have 3-4 portions of grains per day. As long as the first ingredient is whole grains, you're fine!
  • I'll tell you what works for me, but you will have to experiment to find what works for you... I'm 5''2, 136 lbs. I eat between 1600-1800 cals per day and work out about an hour a day, 5-6 days per week (2-3 runs per week, 3 weight days and I throw in Yoga once in a while to mix things up). I net around 1300 cals per day…
  • This is what I total almost every day before exercise! ...
  • I'm a big sugar addict also. My main addictions: pepsi, sour candy, milk chocolate. I find it funny how everyone goes low carbs to stop their sugar cravings because for ME, it's the total opposite. If I don't have enough carbs with my meals, I crave sweets afterwards. And for carbs, I don't mean white bread and white…
  • I feel better seeing all your replies!! My average HR when running a 5K is around 190-200 at 6.3 mph. I've been told that this is very fast considering I'm quite active (some people panick when they see my HRM). I've seen a cardiologist a few years ago and he didn't seem to be alarmed (ECG and stress test were normal). He…
  • First timer here and going all out....doing Spartan Super in Montreal at the end of June :)
  • I'm not getting married but I'm in two weddings. First one on September 28th and the other one on October 12th. I'm only aiming at losing 10 lbs. I hope I don't mess this up :S
  • Agree 100% :)
  • I wouldn't worry if this doesn't happen every day! It happens to me sometimes and I just try to net at least 1200. I usually end up making up for it later in the week anyways. If you're not hungry, don't eat. ** Edit: I'm not saying this is the right thing to do, but that's what I think is the best option in that situation.
