  • Yep you need to have a clear out. It takes a while to get to know and accept that stranger in the mirror but you will. My best moment in my weight loss was when I weighed less than my oh. As he is nearly a foot taller than me it finally felt like the world was right!! Jennie
  • I couldn't do chewables as they made me very sick. I bought a pill crusher and crush up centrium multivitamins into my morning greek yogurt!!
  • Its very normal. I have tried everything from prunes to movicol. I now take a half dose of senna every day. Docs have differing opnions on it but my doc says that if it works for me it is better than the alternative.
  • I have told everyone about my surgery. When I go out to eat I order 2 starters or just a main. If paying for a combined meal I jut order what I would like to try or just share it with everyone else. My nephew and oh love going out to eat with me!!
  • Ok well no surprises here....yes some people support people who have had wls some people don't, gasp.....shock....horror etc. My surgery does not effect you in any way. You think it is the easy way out....fine. Is your life perfect? Do you always do your best if so then well done go off and enjoy it. I don't need your…
  • Oh and can I just add I still love food. I love to eat food and I love the taste of food. I still crave chips (crisps over here) but now it is half a small bag and I have to stop. I will never overeat again. I control food with the help of my sleeve. Food no longer controls me. I just have to deal with my new relationship…
  • I had a sleeve gastrectomy on the NHS in the uk 2 years ago. Back then I weighed 325lbs at 5ft 3 and every day was pain. I teach 5 years olds and I couldn't keep up with them physically in any way. The 3 years before that I had at least 3 weeks of work each school year through illness. I was having to lift up my stomach to…
  • I really struggled with any sort of pasta for a long time. If it is not overcooked it sort of swells in my sleeve and makes me feel ill. Cottage cheese of any flavour worked, mashed potato with cheese, herbs, weirdly pate swirled in was really good! Any meat really minced was fine so chilli....peeps on here reccomend…
  • Weight loss has been fine.....hair growth is as bad as ever unfortunately.
  • I had my sleeve done in the uk. I had a history of bowel issues so had to have the sleeve. That was the op I was hoping for so it was good for me. If you have any medical history of stomach or bowel issues they may not do the RNY. My BMI was 59 pre op and it is now 31. All forms of weight loss surgery can be beaten and so…
  • I was obsessed with fat after my op. I averaged 10-15grams of fat every day. My skin suffered and lots of my hair fell out. My nails even started splitting. My nut told me to up my fat but 'good' fats. Olive oil, salmon, avocado. I was told to use natural fats but to weigh it all and try not to go over 25 grams. I am now 2…
  • I had the dizzyness when standing up called postural hypotension which is a drop in blood pressure. It usually happens with older people but this surgery changes our body in many ways. I was told by my bariatric team to up my complex carbs and this did work for me. Puree is tough. I found any roasted meat pureed in gravy…
  • Oh no 1000 cals isn't suffering at all!! Making good choices means you can eat more but fitting it in an be a challenge! 100 grams of shrimp does it for me and is only a few calories! I just make sure I use seasonings and small chunks of veggies so my small portion still feels like a meal.
  • I am 2 years out and maintaining at around 1100 or 1200 calories. If I go higher the weight creeps on, if I go lower it goes back off again. I recently had bunion surgery and my eating went to below 600 for a few days. I went back to a focus on protein and have lost 3lbs and got my energy back.
  • I was told 6 weeks at least and then start with gentle swimming or walking on the treadmill. Far better to go slow and steady and build strength than to damage anything and set yourself back. Now I excercise all he time and am dreading being in plaster for 6 weeks in July and August because I won't be able to excercise!!

  • I had a sleeve done 2 years ago. I have lost 144lbs and am now what I always wanted to be. A normal healthy person who needs to watch their weight and would like to lose half a stone!! My sleeve stops me from over eating at every meal. MFP helps me to watch my weight and eating throughout the day. I am now up 4lbs from my…
  • Your body is protesting and holding on to everything! You are shrinking your liver ready for your op. Weight loss now is incidental. Its never as straightforward as we would hope. I stalled 3 weeks after my op when I was drinking around 400 cals a day! I have now lost 144lbs and am enjoying life.It is just a small part of…
  • I have a sleeve. I can eat whatever I want just very small amounts at a time. I still eat my favourite foods just not as much and not as often. I don't take multivitamins obsessively now and don't need to. I reccomend doing your research and talking to those who have had wls to find out much about them as you can.
  • I was predicted 75% excess weight. So far I have lost 85% over the past year and a half and have not finished yet. I only want to lose another 7lbs ish to get into an overweight bmi and out of the obese. I am mainatining during the winter and will hit the weight loss again in the spring. Oh and excercise is the key to good…
  • I personally had no problems at all except for an infection in a stitch which meant I had to take foul liquid antibiotics. I belong to a foeum called weight loss surgey info based here in the uk and there are a couple of people on there who did have problems which they have shared.
  • I was told at my last appointment with the nutitionist that I no longer needed supplements. I haven't taken them for a bit but now I am excercising more I may restart my multivitamins. I am 18 months out now.
  • I was not capable of making sure my portion size was what it needed to be for the rest of my life. Now my reduced stoamch size does that for me I just make sure what I out in is as food as possible. At my biggest walking caused me pain and damage, now I can run in comfort and I enjoy it. Now I can do all the things and…
  • I work in a primary school in London K to 2nd grade equivalent. I worked there for 5 years before I asked to be referred for surgery and so they all travelled the journey with me. They brought in clear soup when it was someones birthday and I was on pre op. Someone else bought me in a low fat mousse when it was their…
  • I told everyone before my op!!! It is a personal choice but everyone at work and my family knew throughout the whole process. Even the children in my class knew I was having an operation to get rid of my fat tummy!! I know I was lucky because everyone has been incerdibly supportive. I do now have people asking if I should…
  • I was sleeved on 31st June 2012 and am nearly 11 stone down now. I am loving life, I have discovered running nd am still getting to terms with how to make sure this is successful for me and I don't go back to bad eating habits! I am happy to be friends with any sleevers out there!!
  • I am 5ft 3 SW 325 CW 172 GW 160 ish!!! I had a sleeve gastrectemy in 2012 but don't hold that against me!! I work hard to sort out my food issues and I am developing as a runner which is scary for someone who used to get out of breath walking up a flight of stairs!!
  • I had my gastric sleeve 30th June 2012. I have lost 150lbs since then and I am now maintaining. I have had no real issues with it physically. I do take a multivitamin but I did that before my op anyway. I can eat anything just very small amounts. It can be mentaly difficult when faced with a plate of a favourite food and…
  • I do suffer with constipation after 15 years of the other extreme with chronic ibs. My docs have decided my bowels are not very good at working so I take half a dose of senna every other day. I also obsess about liquids as I know I don't get enough.
  • I was around 6-800 cals for the first couple of months as I really struggled with liquid and pureed stages. I now eat normal foods and average around 1,200 cals a day and I am maintaining at this level. I don't worry as much about protein now and it a normal mix of healthy foods.
  • I can't wait for that!! My BMI is hovering around the 30.something and doesn't seem to want to go lower!
