  • Sugar is sugar, regardless of where it's from. But if you feel ok with the amount of fruit you're consuming and you aren't diabetic, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I always go over too... *shrug*
  • If you are doing power or a vinyasa type yoga pretty regularly, then you can indeed build a fair amount of strength by doing it. But it will not get you "ripped" like weightlifting or even intense bodyweight workouts will do. But, the key is finding something you like to do, so if you like doing yoga and not much else,…
  • Um, by the way, increasing your protein intake will not make you into a bodybuilder. Training like a bodybuilder will do that... Anyway, I use PlantFusion vanilla protein powder. It's vegan, gluten free, soy free, etc. I haven't tried it with just water, but in a smoothie it's not too bad.
  • I have a cute little yellow bottle (12 oz I think) that I got at walmart. It came with a hand strap, but I have mostly abandoned that. If I want to take it on an outdoor run I just carry it since it's so small. Helps to keep my form good since I hate hearing the water sloshing around a bunch in it, plus it leaks slightly…
  • I would love to have my own treadmill, but I don't own a house. An important thought on a treadmill though - they suck a lot of juice, so you might see your electric bill skyrocket if you are using it a lot. And you'll have to pay to have it repaired if it gets broken. Especially if you are looking at a cheap one, it might…
  • I just changed my profile pic - that's one I took Saturday. I am 5'10" and on Saturday the scale said 141. I have a very long torso though, so 140 is about the lowest I like to be...
  • I highly recommend Sara Ivanhoe, but otherwise yogadownload.com has free 20 minute recordings you can download. Granted, there's no video, but they do a pretty good job of explaining how to get into the poses. Otherwise Tara Stiles has tons of vids on YouTube with a lot specifically for beginners, though she moves pretty…
  • Lol, I use green smoothies as a way to avoid eating salads. Even as a vegan, I absolutely hate most salads. So I start my morning with a smoothie made with a small handful of spinach, a big leaf of curly kale, a banana, and (this week) a few raspberries for excitement. It's not sweet, which I like. Much less chewing than…
  • Could also be that you are retaining water - I know I've heard that when people start exercise, their muscles will basically "bloat" and such. How long has it been since you started exercising?
  • Is it smelly gas? If not, I would probably just let it be and giggle about it. :-P
  • Fried rice or stir fry are really good meals to prepare in bulk because you can add lots of veggies and they reheat super well, even after days in the fridge. :-) Just don't over cook your veggies too much the first time, or they will just be mush when you reheat it.
  • The first time I stopped eating animal parts in college, I used a site called vegweb.com frequently to get recipes for free. Also, having recently kicked the animal products again, I learned that my local library has shelves full of cookbooks and a decent number of vegetarian and vegan ones. And the library card was free!…
  • I'm vegan, if that helps... I'm trying to get better about logging my food, since I've been slacking lately
  • I also recommend the 10 Minute Solution DVD. They have a few of them on Netflix as well, so if you have that you can try them out before actually buying one! It's slightly inconvenient because you have to fast forward to what you want rather than just selecting off a menu, but not bad for testing the waters. :-)

  • Sara Ivanhoe has a dvd with a bunch of 20 minute routines on it - they're for weight loss, but still a good introduction to yoga. Not too much of a commitment if you decide you hate yoga, but a good intro to learn some basic moves.
  • The "Look Better Naked" dvd has two workouts on it - a cardio and a strength training one. They are 30 minutes with the warm up and cool down and are both pretty effective and not sure boring to do. :-) And the dvd is only like $10 and you can find it at most Target stores I think.
