  • I love MAYO. My trick with mayo is to mix it up with plain greek yogurt. The yogurt "absorbs" the mayo and cuts the calories in half but keeps the taste. I don't like light or fat free mayos because they don't taste as good as the real stuff. I am a fan of tuna salad sandwiches. The serving size of mayo is 2 tbsp (I…
  • I will also share with you that I have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). I had all the text book symptoms (erratic periods, acne, facial hair) and sought treatment from my teens to 30s. I went to multiple MDs (including my primary doc, endocrinologists, and ob-gyns) but no answers. I was pretty dismissed for this condition…
  • The dosage of Cortef was 10 mg as follows: 5 mg @ 8-10am 2.5 mg @ noon 2.5 mg @ 4pm. I felt the cortef and my body responded with panic, elevated HR, and high BP. I have never had a BP of 150/110 in my entire life. Weird because I read others being on 30mg-100mg of cortef a day.
  • I am looking into the Paleo/Primal issue. I can only attach one issue at a time - my body is currently detoxing as I wean off the anxiety meds. Then, I am dealing with the adrenal fatigue. Then, diet adjustments. If I try to handle everything at once (a lot on my plate right now), I will feel overwhelmed. I have read alot…
  • Well, I've been drained and exhausted my entire life. If I didn't have anxiety/depression - I would be willing to try the cortef for a while. I've researched the issue for years and got tired of being dismissed by doctors. I have had sleep studies, blood panels, cat scans, etc. I have been seeing doctors for years - and…
  • Actually - the naturopath diagnosed me. I have been exhausted and fatigued my entire life. I was always sleeping through alarms, late for school and work, would fall asleep during school and work, and have been fired from a couple of jobs due to that. Again - throughout my entire life - I have complained about these…
  • Well, who knows the long term damage those pills and formulas can really cause. Remember Fen-phen? I would rather lose weight the slow, hard way than tamper with supplements with unknown contents. Will you be jealous if the people you envy need a heart or kidney transplant as the result of damage done?
  • I learned this week that calorie counters on most machines are inaccurate. The only way to get an accurate reading is to wear a heart rate monitor. It is individualized to your specs and will give you a real reading. I thought I was burning 700 calories per hour on the elliptical. The heart rate monitor (I use a Polar…
  • Yes those Fiber One brownies are 90-100 cals and taste so good. mmmm.
  • Look at Vitalicious foods. They have so many awesome choices (muffins, pizzas, egg mcmuffins). Almost all of their food is 150 cals and under. The pizzas are 190 and are pretty darn good. A little expensive but on my low cal days (1350 on non-workout days) these products keep my sanity and tummy happy. Also, I have been…
  • When I go to the gym - the LAST thing I worry or think about is other people (unless something outrageous or extremely inappropriate occurs). I put on my headphones and just go into my own world. It seems to me like other gym customers are in their own worlds too. So, don't worry about other people. Who cares what they…
  • My favorite is Adams crunchy or the kind of peanut butter you can make yourself at the grocery store in the health food section with the grinding machine.
  • That site still says average burned calories is 230. My HRM said 110 and I was busting myself in CxWorks. I was surprised I wasn't at 200. Throughout my life, I have heard many instructors overestimate or claim a class burned 400-700 calories. The only time I have ever heard an instructor mention HRMs was in the 90s when…
  • My HR averages about 130. I usually select "fat burn" or "weight loss" option when on the Precor Elliptical. I suppose if I picked 5k, Hill Climb, or another high cardio setting my HR would be 150. Right now - my goal is to lose 40 lbs and get back in shape. I am not in shape enough at this time to do things that would…
  • I would buy a HRM w/ chest strap just like everyone says. I bought the Polar FT4 a few days ago and it is very simple - just gives HR and calories burned. It also is coded so it doesn't pick up other transmitting devices (i.e. equipment, other peoples HRMs etc).
  • I have the FT4 model. The only questions I recall during setting were: (1) height (2) current weight (3) type of metric system I wanted my information displayed (4) age and (5) sex. It is a pretty basic model and I don't recall activity level questions.
  • Whenever I buy cereal, I buy it in premeasured cups. Otherwise, I simply cannot keep it in my house. My favorite cereal is Special K -- Red Berries. It is higher in calories but since it is in a premeasured cup - I do okay. I vary with what I eat and try not to restrict myself too hard or I will feel deprived. I workout…
  • Have you ever tried the TreadClimber? I loved that thing at my gym. It is an interesting machine that combines a treadmill/stairstepper/elliptical all in one. That thing burns so many calories and I loved it. Just my 2 cents.
  • Now - I am super suspicious of just about a lot of fitness information. I don't even trust the MFP thing that says "I will lose X pounds" if I ate 1360 calories every day. I pretty much just use this site to count calories and to log exercise. I look forward to what happens in the next month with the calorie counting and…
  • Well, prior to the HRM, I was eating as if I was burning 800-1000 calories. LOL. No wonder I couldn't seem to lose weight. In fact, I gained some. Too bad there is so much misinformation on those machines and from others. If I was an instructor, I would be advising people to get an HRM for accurate calorie counts.
  • GREATJOB!!!! What did you do? How long did it take?
  • I snacked on a side of Taco Bell chips last week. You know the side order ones without the nacho cheese or anything...just about 15 chips in that little bag? 250 CALORIES!!!!! For that tiny little bag of chips.
  • The Sabra hummus and pretzel cup combo. They are sold together as a pack. What I didn't realize is that the hummus has its own calorie label. Then, the pretzel cup has its own label. It is really subtle - so I always thought that snack cup was about 280 calories total. NO - it is about 450. And why must peanut butter have…
  • Dr. Oz has said multiple times that unless it comes directly out of his mouth or posted from him on his site - he does not endorse it. He has also stated that many products on internet advertisements says he endorses products, which he does not. The same types of things happen with financial products that claim Dave Ramsey…
  • Well there definity is a lot of information out there about nutrition and training. It is very overwhelming. I think my plan of attack will be to purchase a HRM that has a calorie counter built into the watch. I found a Polar HRM w/ those features. I do not want a HRM with all the bells and whistles - just HRM and calorie…
  • What is HIIT? Never heard of that series before?
  • Yes...lots of interesting feedback. I love that my gym has lots of options - whether I choose the group classes or train on my own. Group classes are motiviating because I feed off the energy of other people and the music.
  • To clarify - I want tone and definition. I am not concerned or worried about bulk. I just wanna be toned, especially my arms and tummy and glutes. My post about my body type appears to have been deleted. I am 5'1"and grew up with a Mary Lou Retton gymnast type body. As time progressed and I am in my early 40s - the most…
  • Paxil was the devil for me. I loved how it made me not care. I hated that it made me put on a ton of weight quickly. It also made me want to drink lots of wine. I have had friends have the same experience with weight gain and increased cravings for alcohol while on that drug.
