  • Yes, I'd love to go back to eating vegetarian for ethical reasons. I do find it so much easier to fill myself up when I include animal protein though...
  • Thanks for the advice, I how you approach it with your children, I'll keep that in mind. My son is only just 3 so I doubt he'll ask me about it directly any day soon, I just wanted to have an idea of how to phrase it. Yes, I'm drinking a heap of tea and water, it's kind of a hassle having a full bladder all the time but…
  • @SavedByGrace26356 I've wanted to see that documentary for ages... now I'm going to! I was a vegetarian for most of my life and have only recently started eating meat regularly. I'd be curious to hear how people manage OMAD without meat.
  • That's fantastic, the fact that you've been able to get straight back into the groove again without cravings... A splurge day sounds well deserved after all the work you've put in!
  • So far: Day 1: fasted 18.5 hours (did a upper body strength workout in the am), then my "brain fog" started to scare me and I ate, I could have done a longer fast if I hadn't gotten so worried about how my head felt. I found it hard to eat a full plate though so I had to eat in stages. Day 2: I fasted 21 hours, a big leap…
  • I'm hopping on this thread to follow your progress! Phase II, that's awesome..I can't wait to hear about your results. My aim is to get comfortable with OMAD and I'm secretively hoping I'll lose some weight, too...
  • And if you happen to be around that time of the month (or even ovulation) you could be up to 2lbs heavier for a day or two just from water retention. That's me, twice a month 2lbs, so perhaps weigh yourself again in a few days?
  • I'll be following your updates, you inspire me! Go Linda :)
  • Wow, that's letting your deepest motivation rule, not just the temporary ones (even though they can tell so loud!). That's great :)
  • Stay strong and resist the urge to weigh ;)
  • Hi @greeshu_89 ! 4 days already, that's great!! You'll be looking fabulous for your wedding, I'm sure. I can't wait to hear about your progress :)
  • Awesome, Deb, you inspire me!
  • First day I've managed to fast 21 hours! I get so incredibly excited :) My stomach was fine but my brain fog was baaaad, so uncomfortable, I got a bit worried about it but luckily I've read lots of you had that the first few days, right? I used coconut oil right towards the end which helped my hunger but not the brain...
  • Walking is the best! It's actually the middle of summer here in Australia and I would love to go for a walk today but it's too hot for me! I could use some of your winter cool ;)
  • Is there something you can do to nourish yourself a bit, non-food-wise, to lift yourself up a bit? Massage, perhaps? Anytime your body isn't 100% well it's so much harder to feel positive...I hope you feel better soon!
  • It helped! I had half a tsp of coconut oil and it stopped my stomach grumbling around 2pm. Did you try it, John?
  • ...your name or preferred username; Fly ...your weight: 57.4kg ...your height: 1.64m ...any past struggles you've faced or are facing: see below ...your goal weight range: 56kg (initially) ...the time of your OMAD: 6pm-ish (can't eat too much at once so I spread it out over a few hours at the moment) ...and your OMAD start…
  • Done and done. What an adventure this journey into OMAD is!
  • Hi! My first reply within this group (I'm working my way through from 16/8 to OMAD if I can, but currently am struggling to push past 18/6 so a long way to go). John, what a fantastic change you've been through! I imagine just the simplicity and calm you get from releasing yourself from the anxiety of hunger would be so…
  • Congratulations on getting healthier, I'm sure it's taken a ton of willpower and commitment and I'm sure you'll be able to use the same willpower when tackling the excess weight!
  • @kaimemo: Yes, when I first started I felt weak and queasy quite a bit, and I do now when I fast longer than 16/8. It's just my body adjusting from my usually routine, it seems. Then after a few days I'm fine. Good luck, I hope you'll enjoy IF as much as I do!
  • It's great for me. It has taught me that it's ok to experience "hunger" or cravings. "Hunger" in inverted commas because through IF I've realised that it's just a sensation, often more like a pang of discomfort, that passes. I now drink coffee or three cups of herbal tea when I get a strong hunger pang within my fasting…
  • I'll add you :) Have you ever tried intermittent fasting? Sounds much scarier than it is. I don't eat until 12pm, I just have coffee and water, which takes 3-4 days getting used to but then it saves a heap of stress and I have more calories left for that time of day during which I have food cravings.
  • What helps me: -Drink two cups of hot herbal tea -Do a stretching workout (in front of the tv: tv on, FitnessBlender stretching workout on iPad/phone) -Postpone: decide to have a piece of fruit in 1 hour if you still want something then -do a proper workout: workouts are the best way to shake off cravings! -go to bed. Bit…
  • Aren't they the worst... It's nighttime here, I'm still hungry but I need to chill out and manage until bedtime...!!!
  • Also: pre-planning each day to stay under helps! Each morning I book all my meals and snacks and just stick to it. I hardly eat in the morning and leave most of my calories for afternoon/dinner/evening because that's when I struggle the most with cravings. In the morning I just have coffee, then a light lunch and then eat…
  • I did this for the last three years with the last few kilos, just not mustering up the willpower. Then I reflected really intensely, genuinely checked how much I wanted this and how strong my desire is, and decided I'd do this just for myself, give it one more go before giving up, and I seem to have found the willpower.…
  • I've been 16:8 for 3+ weeks now and I find it helps me in a big way to manage physical and especially "mental" hunger. I stretched my fasting window to 18:6 yesterday and my body went into overdrive at 12pm going "let's do this, eating time!!", but after 3 weeks I can simply notice this and have a cup of herbal tea and let…
  • I'd say watch some videos on how to lift, just to ensure you've got good form and won't get injured. Perhaps a session with a PT to get an idea of where to start? There is great information on google about "StrongLifts" and a free app called "5x5 StrongLifts".
  • Congrats! How empowering :) I'm on day 8 and I feel incredibly relieved to have found this way of eating (16:8). My food cravings have disappeared which means I don't have that daily battle in my head every afternoon, and the scale is moving! I'm aiming to trim down the last few kilos that I've tried to lose since having a…
