  • Please jump in when you have thoughts or questions. Decompressing by communicating is good for all of us.
  • Gosh, I cannot imagine having had a lifetime of caregiving. I can see why you feel like escaping. When I need to mentally escape, I try to do something totally by myself for an hour or so, like gardening in the coolness of the afternoon shade. Is there something you could do "at home" that helps you feel detached from the…
  • We need to find something else for you to turn to besides seeking comfort food. (Or, at least to replace your idea of comfort food with something low calorie.) Do you enjoy any sort of artwork or craft? Knitting or sewing? Something that keeps your hands busy (reading and TV don't keep the hands busy). Heck, even getting…
  • Hey Soozie, great to hear from you! We are very similar, about 1/2 way there, and now down to a weight that makes it not so easy to lose more. I was able to go on a recent trip and fit into my old shorts (instead of my elastic-waisted "fat" shorts), and that gave me motivation to keep going with my determination to lose…
  • TerryAnne, I feel for your stress in helping a cancer patient. My husband has cancer, and it definitely shakes the world for the patient as well as family and friends. In my adult years, I now find I am a stress-eater. So I packed on about 20 pounds too many. I’ve lost half of it, and am looking forward to us supporting…
  • I never tell anyone (in person) when I am dieting. I just do it, without trying to make a big fuss about it. :)
  • Usually every morning, no matter what weight I might be at. It is a lifelong habit. When I am gaining weight, it is not that I do not realize it is going on ..... I know it day to day. I make no excuses like, "wow, I did not realize what was happening". I DO realize it, cuz I weigh daily. Weighing daily is way to face the…
  • ground turkey tacos made with whole wheat tortilla (soft), no cheese ground turkey spaghetti made with whole wheat spaghetti-noodles, no cheese chicken stir fry
  • I am down a size in pants, so I fit into my "bigger" clothes now ...... I"d gotten so overweight that I'd actually graduated to having bought "fat pants", so being into JUST "bigger" is an improvement! :) My goal is to get back into my regular pants, which will come after a total of 20 pounds ... I hope!
  • Quaker Carmel rice cakes. Sweet tasting but only 50 cals. Quaker Chocolate rice cakes. Great choco fix with only 60 cals. Sugar free fudge cycles (get the half-bar ones), 40 cals per 1/2 bar. Sugar free & fat free hot coco mix, 20 calories Sometimes eating protein will help distract me. I will eat a hard boiled egg with…
  • This morning I weighted a straight 140. Yippy!! I want to be in the 130s (139 will do!) when I go on vacation in a week. I am so glad that I passed up that chocolate cake at the restaurant, and the chocolate birthday cake of a friend's a couple of days ago. But I do have a new chocolate "fix" food: chocolate rice cakes.…
  • Thank you meshashesha20 ! One more pound an I'll meet my mini-goal of being into the 130's in time for vacation! :) How are you doing? And andyp79m, how about you?
  • I've made it half way to the 20 pounds ..... 10 pounds are now vanished! I CAN FIT IN MY SUMMER SHORTS!! AND SUMMER IS NOT EVEN OVER YET!!! If I keep this up, I'll be into my fall capri pants before fall arrives!! How great will THAT BE??!!!
  • Huh, don't tell me there is actually some continued interest here? I'd given up on this group.... but maybe it's time has come?
  • Mmmmm, 367 teaspoons of mayo a day. Where is my spoon and jar of mayo, I need to get started. Weight is a result of calories and math. Check out a weight maintenance chart. 6,000 calories is the daily maintenance calorie allowance for a moderately active 5 ft 6 inch, 35 year old woman, who weighs 739 pounds!!! THAT 739…
  • Well, yes, technically, a 1200 calorie diet "would work". But is that logical for YOUR specifics, probably not. Use the online tools to see how many calories per day you need to just "maintain" your current weight, and then know that reducing that number of calories per day will lead to lost pounds. As you weigh less and…
  • This group is an idea that's time has not come. Here's hoping that we each keep working towards our goals, and have success! Adios to this idea of a group, Shop Closed. Be well all!
  • I find it helpful to have in my kitchen an assortment of low calorie "sweets", chocolate preferably, such as sugar-free frozen fudgebars, sugar-free hot coco mix, and sugar-free flavored instant coffees. Of course, this won't be of much help to you if you don't have any on hand when your craving is hitting you right now.…
  • Pretty lonely around here, if it stays this slow I think I'll close up this shop. Anyone?
  • Hi all. Checking back in to see how you are, and what has been happening the last day regarding your road to a healthier weight? I have dropped another pound, but I know that I'll now go up and down and up and down for a few days until that pound stays off for good. It is weird how for each pound I lose, it fluctuates up &…
  • Welcome everyone! Thanks for joining in, as a group we can get to know each other a bit and let the friendship help us along. I have gained and lost the same 15 pounds numerous times since I turned 50ish. This is the first time that I got over 150 pounds in my life (except while pregnant). I know it is from stress, I have…
  • Mine is 1200. I find the best way to keep on top of my calorie count is to LOG LOG LOG everything I eat. It really helps me to be accountable for what I am consuming, and realized "how many calories" vs the "quantity" of food. Try to find some low calorie snacks that you like, so that when you feel just plain hungry, you…
  • Hi, I've sent you an invitation from the Will Power Group. Let's see if I did it right! (I'm trying to figure it out.)
  • Yeah, I've started the group for us! I'm not sure how to inform everyone of it's name, but maybe you can copy and paste this: [ http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/639471-re-topic-hello-anyone-else-for-20-pounds ] Message Boards » Will Power Group - the "We Can" Gang! Anyone know how to link to it, or how to let each…
  • Hi ElizabethRoad. We finally settled on 1600 being accurate for some people (like me after plugging in my personal details). I think the previous comments about the "low number" of 1600 reflects on what I was posting about, that the MATH of weight loss is surprising when you look at the numbers. Goodness, I guess I should…
  • For me, and perhaps others, loosing the first five pounds is the "easiest". Today, at the 2 week mark, I've lost 5 pounds. That comes to a tiny bit over 2 pounds a week. But I've worked hard on watching my calories, and do not consume the full recommended [for me] 1200 calories per day. I'm sort of apprehensive about the…
  • Grease down the drain = plumber = any "savings" on cheaper meat is out the window [or would that be down the drain?].
  • The tools ask age, height, current weight, activity, M/F, etc in their calculations. Not meds, but I don't have any of those that affect weight. It is just an "arrrggggh" moment of realization for me. My instincts to avoid math in school were right. Ha.
  • Thanks Morebean13. Using your link, I get: Sedentary (little or no exercise, desk job) 1510 Lightly Active (light exercise/sports 1-3 days/wk) 1730 So, I think 1600 is probably about right for a medium number. Dang .....I''ll not be able to look at 1200 calories without thinking "that's gonna' take over a week for one…
  • Morebean13, please which tool are you using so I can check it out, thanks. I used sedentary/low activity for both the weight maintenance tool, and also for the MFP tool, for uniformity. I'm the type to be conservative in my calculations, that is, I don't overestimate my exercise ~ and neither do I omit the small calories…
