  • You should work out! Working out will actually help with the soreness. You should probably not go so hard this time, though. It sounds like you overdid it.
  • Thanks for the heads up! I'll have to be more careful
  • I agree with the iron suggestion. I've had that problem and a nurse recommended I take Flinstone's Kids with Iron because it's got just the right amount. That's really worked for me.
  • My husband has needed and tried to lose weight for years, and the only thing that has worked for him is training for a marathon. So I recommend setting an exercise goal like that. He's motivated to run, and the running somehow keeps him from eating the wrong foods. So if you like or at least don't mind running, try…
  • I do. I went to a BMR calculator site and found how many calories I burn per hour, then I subtract that from my workouts (depending on the length of the workout of course). I'm not sure if HRMs take BMR into account, but I figure it won't hurt to subtract a little from it.
  • I had the same problem-- I was pretty toned except around the middle. Then I started training for a marathon and all of a sudden I have abs! So I recommend running.

  • I agree that you should snack, as long as you reduce the size of your meals and choose healthy snacks. I eat mostly fruit or triscuits as snacks, and it works very well. Lean proteins would be good too.
  • The only way that's really worked for me is to get an accountability partner. My husband doesn't actually work out with me, but we encourage each other to exercise, log our calories, not eat certain things, etc. And we both try not to be enablers. If one of us wants something unhealthy, the other is there to prevent that…

  • I have a Parson Jack Russel! My husband and I love her like she's our child. She's very energetic, of course, which helps keep us active. We take her on runs with us whenever the weather's good. Her name is appropriately "Dash."
  • I have the same problem. My sugar is always over. I eat a lot of fruit and that runs up my tally. No added sugar whole grains, meat, and most vegetables are the way to go to avoid high sugar. But I don't count natural sugars against my totals.
  • I'm sure you're right. My knowledge is based on college courses and limited outside studying. You're definitely not going to get the results you want by eating bad calories, though. We can probably agree on that.
  • MFP doesn't record strength training calories for you because it can vary so much from person to person and from your workouts.
  • I struggle with too much sugar, too. If you're under on your calories, but you've eaten all bad foods like sugary snacks and cheeseburgers... you're gonna gain weight. That's why a lot of people (includign myself) struggle. They don't watch their sat. fat and their sugar.
  • Congratulations!!! :flowerforyou: Don't worry about your BMI. Keep doing cardio, but also do weights, because that will keep your weight up with beautiful, toned muscle.

  • Google "songs for spin class" and you'll get fast songs with strong beats. I love spin songs, so I tend to listen to those when I workout.

  • I agree that you're eating a lot of sugar. You're body turns refined sugars into fat very "efficiently" (unfortunately). Also, if you don't have much weight to lose, you're not going to see it go off quickly. Measure you're neck, waist, and hips to find out how much you're losing. For example, I've lost a whole 1 pound in…
  • I'm from the US, but I know 1 kilojoule equals 239 calories.

  • 2 things: 1. It's not proven to cause cancer, but the sugar substitutes they use are linked to cancer in lab rats. 2. It supposedly makes you hungier. Apparently, when people drink diet soda, they eat more than usual because it puts their bodies into eat mode but doesn't give it any calories.
  • Just to reiterate what everyone's saying: Asics. But Brooks is good too. If you have narrow feet, Nike has more narrow shoes. If you have wide feet, New Balance is good about having shoes available in wide sizes.
  • I didn't mean to offend you or any other 19-year-old. There are plenty of more mature 19 year olds like yourself, but most of them act their age. I thought I was really wise at that age, and I didn't listen to some things my parents said. If I had listened, then I wouldn't have some of the regrets that I have now.
  • I'm no dietitian, but my understanding is that whole wheat is complex. Sugars are simple.
  • I disagree. She'll try to do what she wants, but if you explain why she shouldn't do these things, she'll be less likely to do it. I'm not a parent, but I'm only 23. So, I'm not too far from that age. Tell her that she'll thank you later, because it's true. Explain to her that guys older than her will go after her, and…
  • My personal opinion is calories. It gives you an overall idea of how much you've eaten.
  • That's a really good idea! I never thought about that.
  • Great job at reaching your halfway point!!! That sucks that you've lost motivation. If you can back into an exercise routine, hopefully that'll help with the smoking. You can do it! Try your hardest!!
  • I agree. Today is crawling.
  • If you like barbeque chicken: Take a bottle of barbeque sauce and some chicken, toss it all in a crockpot and cook it on high for 4-5 hours or low for 7-8 hours. It's delicious!
  • 1. Technical shirt and workout shorts 2. None  3. Tacos, my style 4. Putting on extra makeup and a dress 5. Little black dress
  • Hi! Welcome!! :flowerforyou: My midsection is my worst area. The only thing I can think to do is just lots of cardio with strength training mixed in there. Unfortunately, it seems like the tummy fat is the last fat to go. :grumble:
