  • I don't understand the concept of half of banana. How does the other half stay good? I eat a banana for my morning snack pretty much every day.
  • A few days short of 1500.
  • I'm partial to 2 slices of bacon. That goes well with all of my other choices: baked apple topped with granola, a homemade blueberry pancake, oatmeal, or a couple of eggs. Like others, I prefer not to drink my breakfast.
  • I saw that segment and disagree with the method they used to measure calories. They used a 500 step walk and monitored the calorie burn on the device. I think it would have been more accurate to use a 24 hour burn. I'll have to say, my fitbit is pretty accurate at giving me a good total burn at the end of the day. If I eat…
  • There is nothing wrong with skipping meals. I don't usually do it, but if I have a special event planned, like lunch out with friends, I will often skip the following meal. Or I will skip lunch if I know I have a food-laden event that evening.
  • I make red quinoa by cooking it in chicken broth, then adding some toasted pine nuts and wilted kale. I use it as a bed for grilled chicken and it is savory and delicious. Not sandy at all.
  • In my opinion, potatoes are delicious anytime.
  • The secret for me is batch cooking. I set aside a weekend afternoon every couple of weeks and make several dishes, portioning single servings out into containers. Then during the week, I only have to prepare veggies. I can keep my week day routines, attend to my work, and not have an excuse to order pizza or do carry out.
  • I hope you didn't have to pay that "nutritionist" because there is no science behind any of those recommendations. It's a matter of opinion what is classified as "healthy." And your body cannot tell time. And that whole starvation mode thing, yeah, nope.
  • I think the OP has attracted attention here by the title of the thread (what program should I put my gf on?). Assuming that said girlfriend is an adult, she should be the one taking charge of her body and her life. If she asks for help in setting up a program, that's fine. I bristled at the idea that men should be in…
  • Identifying and labeling disorders allows doctors and researchers to diagnose with better precision, set up studies, and recommend effective treatments. To suggest that doctors do this for financial gain devalues the treatment that qualified professionals can offer their patients. My BF is a psychiatrist. He certainly…
  • Absolutely. Besides that vegetables add calories, one of the benefits of tracking is that you can track your nutrition. Quite a lot of my nutrients come from veggies.
  • No, naturally-occuring sugar and processed sugar are not processed differently. But, most foods that contain naturally occurring sugar (fruit, veg) also contain a lot of fiber, which slows down the rate at which the glucose hits the bloodstream, preventing spikes.
  • No, you don't need to drink a gallon of water a day. Drink if you are thirsty. And realize that all liquids hydrate you, including your food. Most of the hype about water was generated by the bottled water industry, who would love to see you buy more bottled water. Of course, if you have been exercising or have been…
  • I am very sorry the OP has a partner like this. I cannot imagine staying with a person who is not supportive of my life goals. And I'm a little disturbed at the number of generalized comments along the lines of "men/husbands can be like that." No, men do not have to be insensitive jerks. And for those who are, gender is no…
  • Sure. I have periods of letting go of very much exercise and then I realize that my energy and well-being suffer, so I get back to it. However, logging consistently has kept my portions in control. I do not want to see that number in red. Just remember that food control is for weight loss, exercise is for health and…
  • Lose weight in general. You cannot reduce any specific part of your body. Your bust will get smaller as the rest of you loses weight.
  • If the OP is measuring in cups, she is probably eating closer to 1200-1400 calories, which could be maintenance for her. And I know that because 1200-1400 is maintenance for me as a small (and in my case older) person.
  • If my BF told me I needed to do something and that it would be good for me, his days as my BF would be numbered.
  • A treadmill can be a vital part of fitness for those of us who live in a climate where it is 100˚+ degrees for nearly half the year. Sure, I much prefer being outside in the park or on my bike, but having that treadmill parked right in my house has made a difference.
  • Wine does not slow down your metabolism? What kind of ridiculousness would that be? Just look at French women. Stay in your calories and enjoy some wine.

  • "Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead" is just a really long infomercial for those juicers he sells.
  • For the newcomers, a word from the wise: Dr. Oz and his ridiculous promotions are not popular around here.
  • That does not sound like a sustainable plan. Why are you doing this?
  • What is your reason for trying to eliminate sugar from your diet? I can't imagine living that way for the rest of my life. Have you tried just staying in your calorie limit and indulging in small servings of food you love?
  • I have a fitbit One, which I mostly clip to my bra. I've worn it every day for almost 4 years. It doesn't matter to whether it is absolutely accurate, though I eat about the same number of calories it tells me I burn, so it must be accurate enough. The point for me is to remind me to keep moving. I check my step count a…
  • What does giving up caffeine have to do with "eating healthy?" I eat a lots of veggie, fruit, lean meat, whole grain, some dairy, keep the processed foods to a minimum. And I also drink coffee and tea, which some studies show to be related to longevity.
  • I think that people have an unreasonable notion of what "healthy food" really is. If your overall diet is complete with plenty of veggies, fruit, lean protein and whole grains, a cookie or a serving of ice cream is a perfectly healthy complement. To me, an "unhealthy diet" is composed of way too many fast foods and…
  • I hope you don't get all your feelings of self-worth based on your appearance. That's a dangerous attitude.
  • You say you are sure you are under-eating. How do you know that?
