To keep it in perspective my grandmother lived to age 96 without setting foot in a gym. She mowed her own lawn until age 92 and managed all the physical activities needed to care for her home and herself. She ate a healthy diet and maintained a normal weight. I’m using her as my example.

I don’t personally believe in external reward systems; they are a throwback to behaviorism (punishment and reward), which turns out to seriously undermine internal motivation. I am deserving of all the love I can give myself, which includes spending my own time and money on things that bring me pleasure. What I do instead…

I have a lemon drop or cup of tea and pick up my knitting. It’s just a habit to keep eating when you know you are not hungry.

If you do not already have a qualified therapist that is a good fit for you, it is time to find one. It appears as if your mental health has interfered in your personal development and that you have not yet acquired the skills to implement and maintain a healthy self-care routine. Time management, sleep health, nutrition,…

I've been in MFP for eight years. I used to be obsessive about trying to diagnose every calorie. It was impossible. Now when I occasionally indulge in delicious Indian food, I just eat moderate portions and log extra calories. Yes, Tandoori chicken is the best choice.

Why do you care? Best thing to do to avoid this is to not talk about your weight goals.

Drinking vinegar is a great way to take the enamel off your teeth.

I don't walk my dog for weight loss. I walk her because I love her and it's good for both of us, both physically and emotionally.

Get over that "starvation mode" idea. But yes, people do need nutrients. Nothing good will come from eating below your BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate). But also keep in mind that exercise calories are only estimated. I wouldn't necessarily eat them all back.
-
The other reason to log fruit and veg is that MFP data lets you look at your total nutrition. Now that I've been on maintenance for several years, my main use of my diary is to make sure that I'm getting balanced nutrition.

Getting a job, going on vacation, or being in a wedding are not medical emergencies. So damaging your health is not worth the extreme certainly that a person who tries to lose weight on a crash diet will gain it all back and then some.

Totally unrelated to weight loss, but you say that prepped food is unpalatable. For lunch today I had garlic lime chicken, quinoa with pine nuts and wilted kale and steamed carrots. It was quite delicious and I cooked it last Sunday. I do nearly all cooking on the weekends.

I don't take any supplements because there is very little evidence that they are necessary. I do eat well balanced diet with plenty of fruit and veggie. My grandmother lived to 96 and she didn't take anything either. I think I'll just follow her example unless my doctor advises me otherwise.

What is the point of this?

I know how you could get rid of 70 kilos over night.

No, nothing good comes from either asking or answering that question. Moreover, for the person asking, he/she would do well to focus less on body image and more on what's inside.

I get a flu shot because I believe in science.

It comes down to wanting your health and well-being more than the temporary love of food. Find satisfying food choices, log accurately, and stick with it.

Realistically, most people don't have three hours a day to devote to exercise. Between full-time jobs, children to care for, home, yard, car, school, errands, and all other adult responsibilities, it is much easier to be mindful of food. I can't imagine where I would come up with three hours and I'm done raising children…

I would look only at what your fitbit says you burn in an entire 24 hour period and then compare that to what some reliable on-line TDEE calculators estimate for your age, height, and weight. Then look at your caloric intake for the same period. My fitbit is pretty accurate. If I eat about what my device says I burn, I…

This is the first I've heard that home-cooked meals don't have calories.

I second the decision to find a food plan and an exercise routine that you enjoy. No one has to eat unsatisfying food or endure unpleasant exercise. So many choices exist for food and movement. As for motivation, no one is motivated to continue anything that is not satisfying.

I thought it was progress for women to leave the Nineteenth Century and along with it, abandon clothing that was more torture device than anything else.
-
Absolutely count everything. I eat hundreds of calories of fruit and veggie every day. If don't have an accurate log, I cannot maintain my weight. Also "healthy food" is not synonymous with "low calorie."
-
There is no evidence that eating or not eating breakfast makes any difference in health or fitness. Eat when you want to.
-
The real message is that everyone should eat when it works out best for them and helps them stay at their calorie goal. I mostly eat my main meal at lunch because I feel that I need the food when I am most active at work. But it doesn't stop me from saving some calories for a before-bed snack.

Beat me to it. When you wear correctly fitted clothing, there is no muffin top.
-
No one should go lower than BMR.

I never cut out any food groups or any of my favorite foods, but I did stop eating fast food over four years ago, partly because of the poor quality ingredients, partly because of the poor pay and working conditions of the employees, and partly because it's so easy to keep eating it. If I want a hamburger, or French fries…

I don't understand the concept of half of banana. How does the other half stay good? I eat a banana for my morning snack pretty much every day.
