  • I know it is April 11th but I'm just jumping back in here. I've got to get this under control! I'm up 12 pounds the last year per my gyn visit. I'm a 51 year old nurse and single mom to three kids. I have a Celiac daughter so cook gluten-free most of the time. Looking for support and accountability.
  • There are lots of us on here with hypothyroidism. I was diagnosed 14 years ago. It may take a while to get your levels where they need to be. Hopefully, you are seeing an endocrinologist. Your TSH may been to be lower than most labs call "normal" for you to feel your best. It may take months of testing and adjusting to…
  • Cool. I don't have the time to quote and copy all of the wonderful things I am reading here right now but know that I am loving this thread. I am a strong independent woman. Single mother to three. I am most decidedly a feminist and feminine. I love that I can choose how I will portray myself and that I can set a role…
  • 5'4" here. 49 years old. SW 146 current weight 128 GW 122 I lost on my waist/ribcage/chest (yep boobs) first. My lower belly and thighs are always the last to go. I'm squatting like crazy so I can hang on to my booty!
  • Thank you, so much! What a great post and very encouraging. I will refocus my efforts and I hope to end up with results like yours!
  • Thank you....Valid points! It is good to hear from someone similar in size. I do feel great, honestly! (way better than I should at my age ;) ) I am not totally depressed or distraught over the whole thing I just want to continue to make progress, you know? I have made good changes over the past few months. I feel terrific…
  • The measuring tape hasn't shown much change but my jeans fit better now. ;)
  • Yes, this! At 0.8 grams/lb of total body weight (not lean mass) it gives me right around 100g of protein/day. I have been averaging around 90. Honestly, that is about all I can stomach, even with protein shakes and such added in. Thank you for your thoughts!
  • Thanks @synacious your photos are inspirational! I have added resistance bands to my regular cardio/strength and I love them. I knew it would get harder as I got closer I am just grinding to a halt! I have adjusted to 0.5/wk and will see how that works for me for a month or so.
  • Nope....I freely admit that there are days maybe one or two a week that are closer to 1400 or 1500/day. But, shouldn't that still have netted me a 2-3 pound loss? I am far from perfect and am honest with myself about enjoying food and a glass of wine now and again. I appreciate your insight and definitely need to step up…
  • So...so....so....slowly!!! I am trying to be patient. I am. I tried changing to 0.5 lb/week. That took me to 1440 cal/day. Although, I have to say I feel eating more won't help me get to where I want to be? Maybe I will reset myself a bit? p.s. my 50th birthday is in 6 weeks and I am working hard to look and feel my best…
  • I have tweaked my macros to 30%C/35%P/35%F I am not perfect all the time. There are days it is hard to hit my protein (not too hard to hit the fat!) and hard to keep the carbs down.
  • I am a night shift nurse and do 12 hour shifts, too. I am fortunate to have a fridge and microwave available to me because I refuse to eat anything from the cafeteria. They do have a few to go items like hummus and pretzels or granola bars and yogurt but nothing prepared there I would touch, yuck! I think a good lunch box…
  • I agree. I just log it. Two tbsp half and half and two tsp sugar. I toss in a couple of tsp of Benefiber too. It is roughly 100 calories but I enjoy them. Every drop.
  • You can do this Matt! There is so much support and guidance here. Your health is worth the effort.
  • I agree! I would rather have no beer than crappy or "light" beer Blech!!
  • I want a job tasting beer! Lol. Especially the lovely high calorie stouts and porters! My calories are set at 1200 so to meet my macros and have a couple of beers I know I will be over my calories. I just have to make sure I exercise and only do it once every week or two. Totally worth it.
  • I love seeing everyone here is working hard to be healthier for themselves and their families and ultimately be a rile model for their patients. I have inspired 's few of the nurses I work with. (all 20-30 years my junior) to start their weight loss journeys as well. They said if I can lose weight at my age they sure can…
  • I'm holding steady. I didn't gain over the holidays well nothing crazy but didn't lose either. Holding at right around 127-128. Still shooting for 122 but I'm happy with the progress I've made. Lovely to hear from you again!
  • You can add me. I am not 1200 calories. I am down 19 pounds since August. I also have a March birthday the big 5-0! Hoping to lose 5 more but I'm trying to focus on exercise and meeting my macros over the scale number.
  • Yay @PamOliva That is super exciting! Congratulations
  • I am (finally!) working on my BSN. I hate the busy work type of papers. Nothing that really seems to have any bearing on my practice at the bedside. Solution.....stop whining! I have waited almost 20 years to finish my degree I can complain or not but I still have to do the work. It will all be done in a few months and…
  • Exercise, exercise, exercise! I know what I have to do diet wise and I can keep that up most of the time. I am really wanting to tone up and strengthen. Logging here keeps me accountable for my food choices
  • Wow! You all look amazing!!! Thank you so much for the inspiration!
  • I wear scrubs. Working in peds we are open to wear whatever prints we choose. I tend to gravitate towards solids lately. My scrubs are getting baggy I think I need to invest in some new ones!
  • I log my calories and am working on hitting my macros. I track my exercise (shooting for 4 or 5 workouts a week) I have a vivofit2 and am tracking my sleep but that is depressing lol.
  • Wow! What a wonderful inspiring group of healthcare professionals! My name is Allysa. I am 49 years old and have been a nurse for 19 years. 17 of those have been in pediatric cardiac ICU. I have always worked nights. Long shifts, switching from days to nights and sleep deprivation as single mom to three have made it harder…
  • At a 1200 calorie budget this is what I do too. I love the big Imperial stouts. North Coast Old Rasputin is my favorite but I save that for special occasions. I can usually save enough calories for a Guinness....or two I just can't. Do. Light. Beer. I would rather go beerless
  • I have been a night shift nurse in pediatric cardiac ICU for 19 years. Switching back and forth and sleep habits are my enemy. Best thing I do is pack my food for the night. Healthy snack and "lunch" and that is it. No pot luck meals. No cafeteria meals. No ordering out. Period. Pre-logging keeps me accountable. I am down…
  • I love PiYo! I am almost done and will definitely ramp up to the next level. I am finding muscle I thought was lost and am so much stronger now. I'm down 10 pounds since I started PiYo. My stamina has really increased too
