I'm pretty sure my mom is smaller now than she was at 20 - healthy eating and daily exercise work! Hopefully I can get there soon too :) It's true what other people have said about the motivation too. Just think of your mom (and your desire to prove her wrong) any time you're contemplating an unhealthy snack, or skipping a…

Funny - I JUST updated our spreadsheet for my last weigh-in today. I hadn't weighed earlier this week (normally on Mondays) because I was sick and eating terribly. I was happy to post a (very small) loss this AM despite it being TOM!

This is only at the start line though - which is how I normally do it. By a cheap outer layer at the thrift store and then ditch it just as I'm about to cross the start-line. If you are throwing off clothes DURING the race then even for big races they won't necessarily get picked up :)

I'm a NUVA Ring girl myself and have quite enjoyed it for the last 8 years. It's one of the lowest dose forms of birth control you can take so it makes sense that it has less side-effects than some other forms of estrogen. Sounds like it's way pricier down south than in Canada though - my insurance only covers about 50%…

I often freeze leftover coffee in ice cube trays so that if I want an iced coffee it isn't watered down (great trick I learned from Oso Negro in Nelson, BC) and sometimes my BF uses them rather than regular ice in smoothies. He'll do some cubes with vanilla protein and yoghurt. It's kinda like a frap...
I'm so glad you said this. I'm a new runner and have only run in small local races where there are barely enough volunteers to run the race much less pick up aways. I was imagining all sorts of litter left behind. Good to know when I do a bigger race.
Even in smaller races in my area there is usually…

I'm all about the throw-away layer. I usually just go to a thrift store and buy a cheap hoodie to put on over whatever running gear I'll be wearing. I figure $5 for a bit of additional warmth while standing around is worth it.

Sprouted beans are very good for you and add a nice crunch to salads. I'm also a fan of spinach salad with candied almond slivers, strawberries, red onion and a little blue cheese crumble. On a green salad I like the aforementioned sprouted bean mix (it's got chick peas, lentils and some other things), cucumber, cherry…

Adult Onset Runner - favourite new term EVER! I'm stealing it Steven. I'm Monique and also an AOR from rainy Vancouver BC. I started running casually about 3 years ago to do the local Newspaper's 10K with some friends and got bitten by the running bug. I've only run a few of 10Ks and one 1/2 (last February) but I'm trying…

Hey folks! Monique here from Vancouver, BC. I am 5'4" and am currently at 187 lbs. I was a competitive swimmer until I finished high school and never really learned how to eat properly as someone who DIDN'T exercise 6 days a week for 2+ hours a day. Things were okay when I was still in my 20s but now that I'm in my early…

Re-training your brain after being a serious athlete is SO HARD! I only ended up where I am today because through most of my 20s I ate the way I had in my teens when I was in the pool six days a week. I TOTALLY understand!

5'4" over here with about 50 lbs to lose. Things are definitely different for us shorter ladies...

I'm big on clothing rewards - after all, as you lose, you'll need new, cute clothes!

C25K is a great starting out program and the best thing about it is that if you plateau you can just stay where you're at until you're comfortable progressing. Good luck with it! Running outdoors is much less tedious than the treadmill :)

I've taken synthroid since I was 15 due to a strong hereditary predisopiosition to hypothyroidism. As others have stated, you do NEED something if your thyroid has been killed off or you WILL experience adverse effects. I'm sure your doctor will make sure to monitor you closely in the beginning and if they don't, ask to…

I have a few of these in my running playlist as well. The Asteroids Galaxy Tour are pretty fun. There are some good, upbeat tracks on Jack White's last album (Blunderbuss) & Santigold is (mostly) great running music. Of Monsters & Men "Little Talks", Alex Clare "Hands Are Clever", Gotye's "Smoke & Mirrors" & "State of the…

Not to be stereotypical, but dark chocolate. I just love it and one piece never seems to be enough.

I'm on the second book right now too! I had no idea they were already making a movie of the first...

One Day. The movie was just awful!

Would love to join as well - seems reasonable to me! SW: 187 GW: 167

Depending on where you live, lots of places have adult rec leagues these days. They tend to offer everything: volleyball/soccer/hockey/curling/football/dodgeball/etc. and they allow team or individual registrations so not knowing other people who want to participate isn't an issue. I'm weird though and I enjoy gym work…

I'm also a runner and welcome adds from fellow runners! I'm working towards my second 1/2 in February 2013 (just started training) and hope to transition into a full marathon training program to complete my first full in early May.

P.S. I'm Monique!

HI Jennie, I'm over on the West Coast of Canada (Vancouver) and find myself in a similar boat. Feel free to add me and we can help each other along :)
