  • I've had it attached to the centre of of bra facing inward for a couple of days now, and it seems to be fairly accurate! I can sometimes see it adding a few while I take the bra on and off (it's easier to put the fitbit on the bra when I'm not wearing it!), but overall I feel like the steps counted reflect my activity…
  • Thanks everybody for your replies! You've all been really helpful! Lisa x
  • Thanks, good to know it's not noticeable like that! I'll try it tomorrow and see how it goes! Lx
  • bump - some very useful information - thanks!
  • For weight loss a calorie is a calorie, but obviously unhealthy foods, even when eaten in moderation, won't give you all of the nutrients you need; so ideally what you need to aim for is mostly healthy food, with the occasional treat in moderation. How this combination works in reality is up to each individual.
  • You could make the apple pie with just crust on the top - normal pastry, but a smaller portion of it. I've used pizza base/bread mix (no fat content) to make savory pies before, but I don't know it would fair with a sweet filling.
  • Sorry if someone's mentioned this already - I didn't read all of the posts! My main target when I first started eating healthy was to increase my veggies, as I'm a bit picky about which ones I like. The easiest way is just add one extra vegetable to whatever you're making for dinner - probably easier when you're making…
  • I have similar problems when faced with temptation - what about eating something before you go? Even if it's just a sandwich or a salad, if you can fill yourself up a little first and then when faced with the snacks, ask yourself if you're hungry: if the answer's no then walk away (I mean actually walk away from it! You…
  • Depending on the total weight you need to lose, then 50lbs is doable, but a very tall order - 50lbs in 6 months means losing 2lbs a week, every week and 2lbs a week will get harder to lose as you get closer to your goal. 1lb a week is much more acheivable, but there will be natural ups/downs and plataeus as well!
  • Loving your hair - I'm trying to grow mine out, but I don't think it'll go that long!
  • bump - I need help with this too! Thanks for the tips everyone!
  • 2lbs a week is an acceptable amount to lose considering your total goal (the more you have to lose the easier it is to start of with) but this will slow down naturally even if you don't make too many changes in your diet. It could even be a short term loss because you've been losing water weight. My opinion is that as long…
  • The way I see it you have two options: 1) make time for the gym/exercise. This is what I had to do to motivate myself to go to the gym! I sit down at the start of every week and I book myself into classes at the gym around my work schedule. I love the group classes, but if you prefer working out on your own you could just…
  • I'd be interested in seeing responses to this myself
  • Yes, you should eat back your exercise calories. If you look around the forums you'll find some people don't eat them all back if they think the estimated burn is quite high, or sometimes just to save a little to balance out a potential bad day later in the week. Find what works for you, everyone's routines are a little…
  • If you've logged exercise it will increase your limit so that you can eat back the calories earned. It may also have updated the limit if you've changed something in your settings i.e general activity level. I know my calorie limit refreshed itself when I adjusted my goal weight the other day.
  • I've been making Smores in the UK since I was a Girl Guide (although back then we called the Sludgies!) and we use Digestive biscuits - to make less mess with the Brownies (I am a Pack Leader now!) I use chocolate digestives - yum! Just to make everyone's day - did you know you can toast marshmallows over a tea light…
  • a little bit in moderation won't hurt your weight loss - or just find a way to fit it into your day. For most people this does mean exercise to earn some extra calories, but if you really want it can you cut back a little elsewhere to fit it in?
  • I was in the same boat - I got on the scales 2 years ago and was shocked by the number I saw (266) - I've also been big, but not that big! It's taken me two years of slow and steady progress to lose 50lbs but even after bad days, weeks and sometimes months I've hopped back on the wagon and kept going, picking up a new…
  • Potato wedges are a good alternative to chips (Fries for the americans!) and leaving the skins on adds extra fibre too! Potato Waffles are one I have occaisionally too! easier to portion than chips and no deep frying! Feel free to add me: 29yo, from Shropshire UK.
  • I had a stomach bug a couple of months back - I didn't keep anything down for 24 hours (sorry if that's TMI!). My honest opinion is that this isn't the time to worry about your calorie intake, you need to concentrate on getting healthy and listening to what your body wants. Of course you can still do that in moderation -…
  • I don't have a Fitbit so I can't make claims to their efficiency, but TDEE calculators make calculations based on general activity levels and assuming your calorie burns are average. I would assume the Fitbit is more accurate as it's based on your actual activity level. Would be interested to see other people's opinion…
  • Loose tops you can usually get away with, but loose trousers just don't look good! Treat yourself to some nice new clothes in smaller sizes - it doesn't have to be expensive, or lots of them (check out Project 333 online regarding living with less!) but use it to show yourself how much you've lost. There's loads of posts…
  • In all honesty I don't think we're the right people to ask - I think you need to talk to a professional, either a doctor or a nutritionist or some kind of professional trainer/coach who can advise you properly and monitor you for signs of under eating and poor nutrition should you eat less than 1200 calories. The one thing…
  • I know when I first joined the gym they offered a free short session with a trainer who set up a routine - he put me on the treadmill and said to find a comfortable pace and then set a target of doing 10 mins at a very slighter faster pace (so I was puching myself a little, but not a lot) and then did the same for the…
  • I love Chicken because it's versatile! I can think of so many things to do with it! Stirfry it with some vegetables; make fajitas; a quick chicken curry (basically fry off the chicken, add curry paste and tinned tomatos and some vegetables, serve with rice); as a student I lived off a cheats 'risotto' recipe (brown the…
  • Well done! Keep up the hard work - like you said it's paying off! I've had some NSVs of my own this week so I know how motivating they can be! :D
  • Hello! I'm 29, F, UK, 5'5.5" (the half is important!!) and 220 lbs. I completely understand where you're coming from and think we can help keep each other motivated. I love the occasional treat - wine, pizza and choccy about covers my list too! I'll send you a FR! Lisa x PS - I too love nachos, in fact I had some for lunch…
