  • Could someone mirror this? The download link isn't working for me. Thanks.
  • Get a food scale and weigh it out. It's much more accurate.
  • That's exactly it. It is similar to a physical addiction. I've made a change in my life and made significant progress. BUT ... I feel like total crap every morning until I eat breakfast, satisfying the 'addiction.' When I eat high fat and carb content foods, I get high from it. It feels great. I feel so much better after…
  • Frankie: That's an observational study that doesn't establish causation only correlation. You need clinical trials. Edit:misread at first
  • Results: Relative to placebo, treatment with the green tea extract resulted in a significant increase in 24-h EE (4%; P < 0.01) and a significant decrease in 24-h RQ (from 0.88 to 0.85; P < 0.001) without any change in urinary nitrogen. Twenty-four–hour urinary norepinephrine excretion was higher during treatment with the…
  • It is excellent in pulled pork. Highly recommend. Edit: And Coleslaw!
  • I work in the food industry also, and taste testing is a frequent part of the job. You have to just make a conscious choice and decide what's more important to you. I only taste calorically dense foods if absolutely necessary. You can also have just one bite or spit the food out when done tasting. I do this sometimes. It…
  • Also in Plano. Feel free to add.

  • Instead of focusing on fixing blame, why not focus on solving the problem? But, yes, ultimate responsibility for the child lies with the parents.

  • Not true. Alcohol is 7 kcal/g while fat is 9 kcal/g. Alcohol has its uses in a diet, though it should obviously not be consumed with regularity.
  • Right now mine has turkey breast, jalapenos, onion, and tomatos. Amazing. Gonna have about 4 of these bad boys today. No need for cream cheese.
  • You'll be fine. Keep at it, and you'll lose weight. Also know that the biggest loser is faked for television and the contestants are treated like scum, so don't base your expectations on it.
  • It's likely water variation. In the first month, my weight bounced all over. Now I lose at a consistent rate that matches my weekly deficit after 3 months. I also make sure to weigh in at the same time and hydration levels each week. And I'm about to eat my weekly carb refeed and lift weights which will send my weight up…
  • Spring Creek Greenbelt/Natural Area near Renner & 75. Also, UTDallas looks a lot better these days. Oak Point Nature Preserve and Bob Woodruff Park in Plano are nice too. White Rock Lake if you're closer to Dallas. Check out the Arboretum there too.

  • Food processing aids aren't required to be labeled and won't be on the ingredient statement. Packaging by definition is a food process. And pasteurization (another food process) has saved millions of lives.
  • Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is also in that list. That was the point of my post - to show examples that just because something has a scary chemical name doesn't mean it's bad. It's all about how much of what you ingest. A lot of vitamins are necessary for proper bodily function, but have serious negative effects if taken in…
  • I didn't know about the USDA organic stuff. I'll read up on it. And I am biased. I think having nutritious, affordable food is important to any society, which is why I'm in food science. I can't speak for the whole industry though. And I have 150 square feet of raised beds in my backyard that hopefully will yield a nice…
  • Yes, you must label food additives. It's a big deal, and the FDA will come down hard if you don't. I'm not sure about USDA because I don't work with them. "Natural" in the labeling context means the ingredient was sourced from a natural product. For instance, if I extracted flavor compounds from an orange fruit and put it…
  • I'm a food chemist and have a biochemistry degree. The author of this video has no idea what she's talking about. What a waste of some interesting resources and techniques. Although I did get a good laugh out of comparing t-butyl-hydroquinone to butane. People need to stop trying to scare others with chemical names. Here's…
  • Take accurate body fat measurements to see if you're losing muscle mass. That's the best way to determine if you're overdoing it.
  • I'm right there with you. I just broke a plateau. I was eating 1800 kcal/day for three weeks which should have yielded a net loss of 8 lbs for me over that time. However, over three weeks I only lost 1 lb of scale weight. Then I woke up this morning and had dropped 7 lbs overnight. After researching plateaus, this…
  • Eat less. Buy a food scale. Weigh and log everything.
  • 8oz homeade smoked turkey, jalapenos, blueberries, 2oz goat cheese, tomato, and 0.5 cup greek yogurt washed down with diet Dr Pepper.
  • Yes. You can.
  • Alcohol will cause your body to expel water as well. It's not uncommon to see a large drop in weight after a night of drinking.
  • I came here to post this exactly. Having pulled pork for breakfast and love the apple cider vinegar. 30 mins prep time and I can eat on this all week.
  • I'm currently eating pulled pork. I cooked 10 lbs of it over the weekend and will be eating on it all week. I mix in jalapenos, pickles, and onions with it.
  • Isn't the idea of a challenge at odds with what mediation is about
