  • My wife is vegan. She was vegetarian/ pescatarian up to 18 months ago, then went vegan. She uses the Forks Over Knives cookbook and has several others and makes a lot of very good food. She’s been trying to lower her cholesterol and has been limiting fats as well. She has no weight issues. I still eat some meat but my diet…
  • Don’t stress. I really want to meet my weekly goal. I’m usually way over one or two days a week, and way under one or two days. Have been losing 3-4 pounds a month since Jan. 1.
  • I just looked at the World Factbook and the U.S. came in 12th at 36% obesity. Mexico came in 29th at 28.9%, similar to Canada and Australia. Most of the top 10 were South Pacific islands like the Marshall, Cook, Palau, Nauru, Tuvalu, all above 50%.
  • Sorry, didn’t take the time to read all the replies, but to tag on to the difference in food culture/ portion sizes. I’m mid sixties now, but growing up I can still remember 8oz and 10oz bottles in the soda vending machines. McDonalds weren’t as wide spread but burger joints were common and most served what we would call a…
  • For what it’s worth, I don’t log moderate exercise- walking, gardening, etc. If I swim or do more intense cardio, I log in half the calories. I’ve been tracking consistently the past 3/4 months, and losing at my goal level, around a pound a week.
  • I’ve been doing IF the last three months. No breakfast except coffee and some oat milk. Skip lunch Monday and Friday. I still track but am successful if weekly average calories come in close to goal. My daily calories are all over the map.
  • Calories for me as well. My wife is vegan so we eat carbs alot, but mostly healthy higher fiber kind. We'll indulge in pasta probably once a week.
  • I usually do IF, either 16/8 or occasionally 22/2. The only time I really felt hungry to an extreme it was due to being dehydrated. I try to stay busy / occupied and drink lots of fluids.
  • My wife is a yoga instructor, and about 10 years ago we went to a Yoga Journal conference in Lake Geneva. One of the presenters was Wade Morissette, Alanis' twin brother. He would play guitar and sing while guiding us through the poses. The routine as I recall, was a lot of the Ashtanga 1st series poses mixed in with 50…
  • I normally do 16:8 on week days, but back off a little on weekends as well. Do what is easy for you. I add in a 24 to 36 hour fast once or twice a month.
  • If I don't log my wine, I get those nasty MFP messages saying I'm not eating enough. So, I reluctantly log my wine just so I don't go into starvation mode.
  • Bacon, scrambled eggs in a blend of sauteed onion, mushrooms, tomato, and spinach. Glass of cabernet :) .
  • Just agreeing with others comments on sodium. I'm a big fan of Panera, but when I got back to logging on MFP I was blown away by the amount of sodium in their food. One thing, too, that has helped me is to really limit the useless calorie rich side carbs - the Panera loaf, chips, or at other FF places, fries.
  • I normally do the 16/8 routine. Skip breakfast but have coffee with half&half or creme. Eat lunch and dinner. Once or twice a month, will do a 48 hour fast. Sometimes will through in some low calorie days (300-400 cal lunch, then just a protein shake after the evening workout). For the longer fasts, I'll have bone broth…
  • To do the least damage, choose drinks with low or better no sugar. I've been told that drinking wine or liquor straight or with soda will not throw you out of ketosis, however will reduce your fat burning capacity. As noted above, you may be more susceptible to the intoxicating effects of alcohol, so pace yourself. Also,…
  • Thanks for posting this. We are going on a cruise in less than 2 weeks, and I was thinking of asking for advice. Your comments about refraining from all the fruit drinks is a good idea. I remember from cruising before, they usually designate a budget priced drink of the day, and it is almost always a fruit based drink. We…
