  • The answer is that bodies are weird. The older you get, the stranger they are. I used to lose weight from my face down, my thighs being the last to go. Now I lose it more all over. Hormones can make a difference, so can the types of food you eat. I wouldn't sweat it. Just get back on track and you'll feel better, even if…
  • There's something in getting older. I'm about to turn 60, and for the past ten years I have really cut down on sweets, mostly because they're not as enjoyable as they were when I was younger. I also cut sugar from processed foods (like avoiding bread, crackers, cookies), with only occasional exception. It helps me to eat…
  • I've read that the less variety you have in your diet, the easier it is to stick to your plan, and that has been true for me. I eat the same breakfast about four days a week (eggs with veg) and a yogurt breakfast on other days. I really don't vary that much. My salads are usually the same kind. If there's all different…
  • Congrats on your success! I don't believe that about cardio. Exercise is good for us, all kinds. It's not a mathematical formula. Do what makes you feel strong and good. If you hurt yourself, it defeats the purpose. The first 20-30 lbs is water weight? That sounds like nonsense to me. Just put on your tightest fitting…
  • I wouldn't go with what MFP suggests anyway. It's just a ballpark for the average person of a particular weight. If you have a high %age of muscle, you're going to need more food, just like if you're thin but mostly fat, you'll need to eat less. I'd track my calories and weight over a long period of time to see what works…
  • You have to put your own spin on any method, I think. I have done the six hour window on days when my schedule allowed, and it does work better, but at this point I'm not ready to do that full time. Also cutting flour and sugar works better for me than anything else. Overeating during your window defeats the purpose. Eat…
  • I've been doing the eight hour window for over three months, and it's working for me, but I also count calories and stay low-ish carb. The important thing is to fast for at least 2-3 hours before going to sleep, at least for me, because I sleep better on an empty stomach. Yes, it is another variation of calorie…
  • DISAGREE button: I hit mine accidentally all the time. Don't sweat it.
  • I'm lazy low carb! I count my carbs and try to keep them fairly even with the grams of proteins I'm eating. I have wildly varying levels of success with this. Getting enough protein is hard for me, since I used to be vegan and I don't think daily meat is healthy at all. So I eat eggs, cheese, and yogurt now, as well as…
  • English breakfast tea with whole milk. For a splurge, I add a cube of sugar.
  • Use the package! A lot of MFP calorie counts come from users, whom I don't always trust. The nutrients listed on packaged foods are government regulated and IMO more trusted.
  • I don't think it's at all stupid. I try to include vegetables in my breakfast too. My favorite is asparagus, leeks, spinach, red pepper, grape tomatoes, and a little ham in scrambled eggs. Also a bit of cheese! Keep portions small and it is a keeper. Sometimes I have last night's leftover meat and veg. It works well for me…
  • It's the only thing that works for me. I gave up not only sugar, but foods containing sugar and flour. Grains are good for us, but any flour is processed, and pre-digested. It's not as filling as the whole grain, and it can spike blood sugar. The most success I had was giving up all sugars and flours. It's really, really…
  • I think it's really important to eat actual food. Unprocessed. Produce, whole grains (and that does not mean whole grain flour--I mean the whole grain, intact), lots of water. Avoid juices and other caloric drinks. I stay away from 'Diet' foods. They're full of chemicals and not at all satisfying. You can try an…

  • There is no such thing. I used to wear a size 22, and that was 100 pounds ago. Now I can fit in 22 in some things. All brands have different sizing. Best thing to do is find clothing that you like yourself in and ignore the size.
  • Go to the thrift store to buy clothes! Then you can save up for when you're at goal weight and buy one or two quality things at a time. I have to get the fat clothes out of my house as soon as they are too big because I will grow right back into them.
  • For years I would not buy peanut butter because I went through it so fast. For a while it was the same with ice cream. I say don't deny yourself your fave thing, but DON'T keep it in the house. Once I lived in a high rise above an ice cream shop. It was great, because if we wanted ice cream after dinner, we had to dress…
  • To me, cleaning IS exercise because I USUALLY don't do it. You should see my house. If I spend an hour cleaning stairs AND I'm sweating, I count it as exercise. If I walk across the room to answer the phone, I don't. It bothers me that other people get on my case for counting mopping the floor as exercise when I have…
  • Well I'm 52--that's close enough, huh? Wanna be friends?
  • I'd say, help her to see what is beautiful about her. I myself am very fat, but I have gorgeous skin, hair and eyes, and I'm really funny. I like it when people notice things about me that I like about myself. It makes me feel like I'm ALREADY attractive and wonderful.
  • I'm 52 and still feel pretty much like I did when I was 18--only now my knees and feet hurt, lol.
  • I'll be your friend. I have about 150 to lose. I'm also a mom, but my kids are early teens. My fave exercise is dancing, but I also like to swim.
  • I already weigh everything or use measuring cups and spoons. I already don't eat out. Thanks for suggesting them, though.
  • Thank you. It's nice to be understood. I just had surgery on my thumb because of the pain, and I'm set to have the other hand done next year. I really, really want to avoid knee surgery, so I love the idea of exercising in the pool. Did that for a while and enjoyed it. Thanks again.
  • Try not to assume. I got this fat by sitting on my bottom and eating too much, but it wasn't in restaurants. I eat out about four times a year.
  • Thanks everyone. They ARE excuses, but they are also reasons. I like the suggestion to swim until I can walk without pain. Also love yoga. Thanks for the link! I also like dancing and don't care when it hurts my feet. I have flat feet, and when I do try to walk, just around WalMart like I did yesterday, it's really easy to…
  • WHOA! This one really made me think. I'm addicted to some emotion, that is true. Not sure if that is the one. Must think about it. I do tend to do my emotional eating when I am angry. I do angry eating, not sad or happy eating.
  • Does anyone know where I can get one of those calorie tracker armbands that will go around my huge arms?
  • Thanks. No, you do not sound mean. I just hurt everywhere.
