I've been stretching for 40 years--I started in my 20's. Now it's imperative since I'm 68 with a bad case of OA. I need to stretch to function. I need to move to function. There's no other choice. Over the years I've added on to my stretching. I started with a Jane Fonda book and 40 min. I'm now up to 90 min and could do…

If you're turning over a new leaf and throwing those excuses out the window, then don't mention them anymore and get going. If you don't like exercising--fine. Losing weight is purely a caloric deficit. Get your daily goal from MFP and stay within it everyday. If you say you want to build strength and are serious, then…

We always caution against fast weight loss. There are so many negative consequences. I'm sorry that happened to you. To do this right take a long term attitude. Slow and steady loss, with a little movement thrown in. Get your daily calorie goal from MFP and start weighing your food on a digital scale. Try to stay within…

Agree with @liechi. Try potassium and magnesium, then try wrapping your calf with an ACE bandage--not too tight, just enough for support. The heat and support usually does the trick. After a couple of days it usually will get better. Remember to wrap very loosely at night for circulation, and a little tighter during the…

You say you have no medications----yet. Are you waiting for a health scare for motivation? Some people do that. Agree that therapy might help you. Some people can't lose until they do some. That's not a problem. Look for a good therapist that you click with. Keep looking if necessary. As for your previous attempts, that's…

Glad you enjoyed your trip.

I, also, am not familiar with SW, but think you can do both. Many people do Weight Watchers and still log on MFP to see the difference. It takes a while to get the hang of counting calories, so finishing out your 3 months will give you time to see the difference and move smoothly into MFP. Many people here like to exercise…

Interior Designer, then married and moved to Italy---Roman Housewife. Still doing that at 68.

Problem is ---in Tai Chi most of us are fairly new to it. There can be other reasons why people want a certain place. In Yogaflex class I have a hard time hearing the instructor if I'm up close to him and the music (it's a little loud even though it's supposed to be calming). Since we're down on the floor, I have to hear.…

I understand it--that doesn't mean it's worth fighting over. I always have the same place in acquagym, I'm tall and want to be in deep water, and I've been doing this for 27 years so have difficulty with newbies that crowd because they have trouble staying in the same place. I like deep water at the end of the pool and I'm…

I've had this problem for years with my skinny husband. Saying "NO" puts you in a bad light and insults them. THAT is just the situation. So, I'd accept the bags of chips gracefully and thank them profoundly and then, as Ann suggested, give them away as fast as possible. As for them pushing seconds on you, I'd say "I'm so…

As much as you can get. Just kidding, but for many that's the answer. To be serious it depends on so many factors--age, daily activity, etc. , So..... varies for everyone. I used to need 8 hours to function, now I'm 68 and if I sleep too long I get headaches or anxiety around 4 or 5 in the morning. If I get 7 hours now…

My husband is naturally skinny. He eats sweets with every meal. However he eats small portions of everything. When I want to lose weight, he is a sabotur because he loves to eat out, but only wants half of everything---example: half a pizza, half a desert, half of a large portion of pasta, ....etc. He doesn't want me to…

I've always understood that nicotine suppresses appetite. Therefore eating less=weight loss. There's no special calorie burn.

Depends on how you use it.

I'm so glad you found a therapist that can help you. It's nice that you came back to tell us. We give advice and never know if it falls on deaf ears. Congratulations! And hoping that you reach your future goals with serenity. Best.

Nice! Congratulations!
-
Very nice, but if I can make a comment---put tracking calories at the top of your list, not the bottom. It's the most important for weight loss.

Congratulations!!!!

I'm 68 with OA--stiff and achey. I exercise everyday. I do Tai Chi almost everyday with my husband and a small group of Chinese in a park near our home in Rome, Italy. It's a great start to the day near the Roman ruins, under the palm trees, with the various birds and animals waking up with first light. After a month and a…

I don't know much about you, but I do know about arthritis and exercise. I'm 68 with OA for a long time, but exercise everyday. I've powered through a lot of pain. But I've found there are PT exercises that make a big difference. I look up "Ask Dr. Jo" on internet. She's fantastic with seemingly simple stretches that can…

Yes, I know, but core work will give better posture and sometimes that can help.

I'll just chime in with everyone above---you're doing great! Don't listen to what the others are saying, you do you. Small progress is perfect. You'll see that things change as you lose and get stronger. You'll change your program and diet as you move along. That's all normal and will get you where you want to be.…

Sorry OP just reread and saw you are doing some lifting. Maybe up that plus core work. @ninerbuff will be able to give you some good ideas and there are many others on here that can advise. Just keep going. If you're done losing, you may want to look into recomp--eating at maintenance and lifting to build muscle. It takes…

Actually it's not necessary to eat "clean" (whatever that means) for fat loss. OP--just stay in a deficit, and I'd suggest lifting if you want to. Good luck.
-
But is it still?
-
Could be.... But it's just easier to habit things. Think--do you use discipline to brush your teeth? Take a shower" Do the laundry? Sorry, but so many people come on here asking for motivation (from others), or how to stay disciplined. They don't last long. That's why most of us that have been around awhile (10 years for…

Don't really agree. I find creating good habits is longer lasting.

Detoxes always get eye rolls on here for the reasons Niner said. No quick fixes. Change your habits for the better.

Sorry--I cook a lot everyday and don't have menus. I just make up my own as I go along. I take the ingredients and just cook something. I forget not everyone does that. I think seeing a dietician to start is a good idea. Once you get going, you'll find it isn't difficult. Good luck.
