I like Metcons for lifting because they definitely have stiffer soles than Nanos. I wear my Nanos for less lifting/more cardio type days and my Metcons otherwise. I also haven't found one single shoe that meets all my needs for CF.

You guys get all the cool drop-ins!!

Holy cow! Fantastic work, girl!!

Katrin and Brooke? Awesome!

Fantastic work!

I don't know, but I always bottom out when I squat. I feel like it's the only way I can truly tell that I've gotten below parallel. None of my coaches have ever reprimanded me for going too low.

My box does this too for exactly this reason I think. Ease you into a new type of workout and assess your abilities/mobility/form. Real WODs will be tougher and you will probably be sore from the on-ramp classes.

+1 for my WOD. I've been using it for close to 2 years and like it.

I've been doing CF for almost 2 years now (the last 7 months pregnant!) and I'm still overweight and often the last one in from a run. No one cares and we encourage each other equally. I love CF for that comraderie and friendly atmosphere. Good luck and stick with it! You will be able to do things you never dreamed of if…

For me, when I cut calories and/or carbs for weightloss, my numbers in the gym suffer greatly. It may not be this way for everyone and probably I'm just not maximizing my nutrition for performance, but I cannot make gains/keep the same level of strength while also losing weight. Just my 2 cents though!

This! Although I'm 33 weeks pregnant with my second kid now and pretty much anything that takes effort makes me want to pee now (sneezing and coughing included).

I think it's possible. I have never been an athlete (more of the reading/movies/hanging out person), but I have gotten very strong just doing CF 3x a week, with no supplemental lifting. I started in July 2013 and these are my recent numbers: Deadlift: 305# (10/15/14) Back Squat: 215# (2/22/14 - missed the most recent 1RM…

Our programming is done by our head coach (who was a Crossfit Games Masters competitor, Army Ranger/Special Forces and competition athlete). He has also coached several athletes in the Games. http://www.crossfithuntsville.com/coaches/dennis-berry/ I know he does linear periodization for our basic movements (press, back…

This is interesting because I feel like wall balls and thrusters are essentially the same movement lol I hate both! :)

Sweet! PRs are the best!

I've never had it, but probably red pepper flakes or some sort of chili paste?

Bravo! I'm also quite a bit overweight and love CF. You'll find stuff you like!

So, you never experience lower back soreness after heavy deadlifts? She said she was experiencing it the next day, not during the workout. Just because you have done heavy DLs for multiple reps and not experienced soreness the next day, does not mean it's not possible for other people. If I go super heavy on DLs or do a…

Excellent! My first Rx'd WOD was about a month and half into started CrossFit but it was a bunch of running and rowing =P The next one was about 2 months in (on my birthday). A year later and I still don't Rx a lot of WODs (bc I'm still significantly overweight), but I just Rx'd a WOD today... A. Strict Press: 5x5 E2:30MOM…

Yes, I have arthritis in both knees pretty bad and it was killing me at my highest weight when I was sedentary (I had to ice my knees at the end of every night because they hurt so much). I have since dropped 35 lbs and started heavy lifting. My knees got worse at first from all the new exercise, but then started getting…

You have to use your lower back to straighten up at the top. I had/have a SUPER weak lower back (used to throw it out all the time), but very strong legs, so I always feel it more in my lower back when I'm doing heavy weights (squat, deadlifts, kbs, etc).

I would say your estimated TDEE is definitely off. I'm around the same height and weight as you and was stuck on a plateau for months until I got my BMR tested at a local medical center. Turns out my TDEE is only 2200 (accounting for the 3 days of pretty intense exercise I do) so I had no deficit at all. Now I eat about…

I love c&j and have always been fairly strong with lifting heavy things. My c&j started out at 85# and now I'm up to 145# (although that last 1RM was back in May so I'm guessing I could get another 5 or 10 lbs now). I've been doing CF for just over a year, but I only go 2-3 times a week. Love it though and wish I could go…

I also injured myself long distance running in inapporpriate shoes when I started out (about 70+ lbs overweight) - stress fracture + knee issues. I have since been fitted at a running shoes and run in Brooks Adrenalines. Great shoe and feels like I'm running on air. Expensive, but worth it for your physical well being.

I started lifting heavy when I still had 100 lbs to lose. Even before losing any pounds, my shape started getting better and I was losing inches in all the right places. Once I was ready to get my food intake right, then the pounds started coming off and I can still maintain that nice shape and have muscles when the fat…

I like compression shorts or booty shorts

I've also tried Muscle Pharm, but wasn't a fan of the taste. I hate the fake sugar taste. I also use Progenex Recovery because the taste can't be beat (for me). Loco Mocha is my go to. So good!!

I did the whole life challenge recently and found that I had ZERO energy during my 6 am wods when I didn't eat enough (calorie wise) the day before. I usually workout in a fasted state (been doing it for years and its worked well for me), but those days I need to eat a banana or half a larabar or something before my WOD.…
