You are so brave. Thank you for sharing your journey. I can definitely identify with some of the things you posted and wish you every success as you continue to make progress in coming back to the world and to yourself.

Hi Denise, thank you so much for posting. I have gained back all the weight I lost last year, and just as you said, it's like a switch flipped. I feel so much better when I'm exercising, logging my food, and just saying no to sugar. I go along in that mode for months, and then eventually I get overwhelmed when there is so…

Three pounds until I hit a normal BMI for only the second time in at least seven years. For keeps this time.

OMG what a beautiful place. Thank you so much for sharing your photos!

I tell myself that the more I do (fitness-wise), the more I can do (in the future). I want to be able to hike and bike with my husband for a long time.

First hill-climbing session, after my initial eight weeks of building up stamina over 300 miles of pretty much flat riding. Went better than I expected. I'm happy.

This week is my eighth week of being back on the bike. In those eight weeks, I've logged just under 300 miles. Today I rode 23 miles, my longest ride yet. The ride out felt great but the ride back was a bit of a struggle. While I'm building up my stamina again, I'm riding on a rails-to-trails path that is lovely. It has a…

TDEE = total daily energy expenditure, or how many calories your body burns in a day. Your total energy expenditure in a day will depend on factors such as how much exercise you do. Here's a link if you want to see what a simple TDEE calculator looks like: https://www.calculator.net/tdee-calculator.html. As mentioned above…

I haven't gotten any exercise over the past few years (I turned 60 last fall). Decided I wanted to be able to hike and bike with my husband. Just finished my first 100 miles on the bike (over the past three weeks' worth of riding). Now onto my second 100 miles! I can't believe how much better I feel when I cycle.

1-2 cups of sliced strawberries with light Reddi-Whip cream is sooo satisfying. Or ripe nectarines (nectarines instead of peaches, because peaches often get mushy), a cup of firm blueberries, or a whole apple plus 2 slices of American cheese. I'm a serial starter and have been an emotional eater. This time was the worst…

My next two mini-goals are to make it to a normal BMI, by the end of June. And to get back on my bike this summer. I'm determined to keep both my sanity and my health, as I move into more and more caretaking for my 82-year-old mother while simultaneously helping my husband take care of his 83-year-old mother (the two…

I'm with you. Mom of one teenager here. My logging and eating have been a bit wobbly for the past couple of weeks. But I notice that when I am able to stick to it, I feel much better physically and emotionally. It helps me to use the MFP app so that I can log on the go, on my phone. Hang in there! Every day is a new day.…

My NSV: I've reached my 500th day with no soda/carbonated beverages (they make me feel too anxious and too hungry and seem to trigger junk food binges). I log the "no soda" on an app called Strides, which helps track habit changes that you want to make.

I am with you. The only thing that's been effective for me in taming the sugar monster is to cut out sweets (cookies, candy, ice cream) entirely. I also make sure I eat a salad that I like every day as part of my daily intake, with low-fat balsamic vinaigrette, and sometimes with a hard-boiled egg and bits of real bacon.…

You can definitely do this!

You are awesome! Keep doing what you're doing!

Today's walk: 40 minutes from my front door to my gym. I live near UC Berkeley, whose mascot is the Golden Bear. Here are two carved statues that I saw on my walk today.

Did my inaugural 30-minute walk yesterday, outside in my neighborhood. On my block there is a Little Free Library, a wood-and-glass cabinet with free books in it. Anyone can take a book or leave one.

Great work! You have found exercise and eating habits that you like and can sustain. That's really the key. I love your positivity as well! Looking forward to reading more about your successes. WTG!

For myself, I can lose weight but I don't get lean unless I exercise. Also, it takes a little time for me to see the effects. If you are looking for workouts to do at home, I have heard many people recommend fitnessblender.com. Keep trying different things, you will find something that works for you!

Nice arms!!! Congrats on the weight loss-you've worked hard for this!

This summer I was really struggling. Mid-summer, something happened that gave me motivation to fix my health, that it was now or face serious consequences. I gave up bread and junk food, ate fruits for my sweets, and I also ate more protein (chicken, eggs, nuts, salmon). I stopped going to McDonald's. I stopped eating at…
