  • Hi! I'm Angie (AngieL789 on BBC). I started MFP to lose weight after DS, lost a bunch, got pregnant with DD and came back to lose that weight at the end of March 2012. I lost over 50 pounds from March - October, but I have slowly been letting things creep up since then - my official 2013 starting weigh in is tomorrow so…
  • Other things that are generally deemed to be more desirable in Western societies: straight teeth & men with hair. Would you think it was acceptable to say to someone, "You'd be good looking if you only fixed your jacked up teeth"? Or, "You'd be a handsome guy if you got hair plugs"? Would you think anyone who said that was…
  • I (just barely) qualify - I'm 41 and I just topped 50 pounds lost when I weighed in this morning. For me, the key has been eating clean - I don't eat any processed foods. And yes, that includes sugar and flour. I used to track my calories religiously but now that I feel more comfortable with my choices I don't do it as…
  • I once read somewhere that people usually start to notice weight loss when you lose around 10% of your starting body weight. I don't recall if there was any sort of science behind that, but it was very true for me - at 10% loss EVERYONE started telling me they could see a difference.
  • I am done having kids now (have 2 - a 3 yo DS & 1 yo DD), but I did lose weight to conceive my DD. I started at 225 then and got pregnant when I hit 190. I've lost all that baby weight from baby #2 and I am almost back to to my pre-baby #1 weight. And I was 37 & 39 with these pregnancies with no drugs or fertility…
  • What others have said is correct - you still need to watch calories to lose on phentermine, all it does is falsely suppress your appetite. What don't you do the same thing for your body the healthy way? Cut out all sugar & processed foods and break the insulin spike/craving cycle that makes you feel like you can't control…
  • Me too - a Primal/Paleo eating plan. I LOVE it!!! I am consistently coming in lower in calories than I did when I just counted calories alone, and I am never hungry, no cravings. Plus my energy has gone through the roof - my body is actually fuelled well enough to do more & better exercise.
  • I'm 40 and I have 2 kids - a 3 year old and an 11 month old. All that baby weight after my metabolism had taken a nosedive is why I'm here! Feel free to add me.
  • Yeah - my ticker is misleading, too. I was doing this a few months ago, lost 13 pounds and then we went on vacation in October... I blew it & got off track for 3 months. So my "5 pounds lost" is actually 8 pounds gained since October :(
  • One of my favorite features on here is the "remember meal" option. If you have a meal that you eat regularly (like breakfast! I don't tend to have a ton of variety there!), then click on "Quick Tools" at the bottom of that particular meal. Then choose "remember meal" from the drop down menu. It will ask you to name that…
  • Hi Everyone! I'm AngieL789 from the bargain board. I've done MFP off & on for a couple of years now. I have to say, it works as long as I'm doing it - I just have to stick with it! DH & I are taking a cruise in March, and while there is no way I can reach my goal weight by then (unless I cut off a leg or something) I want…
  • It did work out pretty close to where I'm headed (my goal weight is 145, this calculation says my "happy weight" is 142), but I don't buy it as a useful tool for all women. Too many variables that it doesn't account for.
  • For me, preparation is key. I've started setting aside time on Sundays to cook up meals that I can eat later in the week (grilled chicken breasts, roasted turkey breast, healthy veggie-based soups, veggies chopped up for easy salads, boiled eggs, etc.). Part of my problem in the past is that I would get so busy with work,…
  • I agree - mini-goals are the way to go! Because I am a former yo-yo dieter, I have been every size from an 8 to a 22 in my life. Instead of just focusing on my ultimate goal (which can seem so far away & daunting), I focus on getting down ONE MORE SIZE. I literally have a stack of jeans in my closet in each size, and I…
  • This sounds great! I have a 2 1/2 year old & a 5 month old - and unfortunately I didn't lose all the baby weight from #1 before #2 came along, so I have a lot of work to do! It will be great to hear from women on the same journey as me!
  • Mmmm... turkey leg! I forgot about those! Thanks for all the suggestions - I feel encouraged that I can enjoy the fair without going too crazy.
  • Not currently TTC, but a success story to encourage you - I orginally joined MFP to lose weight to conceive baby #2. Before I made it to my goal - bam! Knocked up! It took 7 months. I'm back now to lose that baby weight, plus finish to my ulttimate goal, but this is a great tool to use to get you in baby-making shape :)
  • I disagree with this. Most people lose quickly in the beginning - if you have a decent amount to lose, it would not be uncommon for the 1st 10 pounds to come off the quickest. As others have said, the closer you get to your goals, the slower it will come off. You'll get there - just don't place timelines on yourself. It's…
  • To the OP... I noticed your signature says you are 5'9" and currently weigh 188. Is this correct? If so, you aren't very far from a healthy BMI. I'm not sure why bariatric surgery is even a consideration here if your signature info is right - bariatric surgery is for significant weight loss, not that last 20-25 pounds.
  • To be honest, I've never had a weight loss program that failed to help me lose the weight I wanted. I've tried different things in my life and they've always been successful at getting me to the weight I wanted to be at. The problem was - as soon as I reached that magic number on the scale, I didn't know how to maintain.…
  • Thanks for all the responses! I'll keep doing what I'm doing! Oh, and I did want to add - my ticker is misleading. I have much more to lose than 38 pounds to get to a healthy BMI. That is just a shorter term goal. I actually need to lose 80+ pounds to get there, so based on everything I've read, 2 pounds a week is not…
  • It's great that you have someone to keep you on track. I think the sabotaging comments have to do with the story you told - your husband doesn't know, so he is placing temptations right in front of without even realizing what he's doing. As you know from your past experiences, losing weight & getting healthy can be hard,…
  • I noticed you said this is what a typical Monday-Friday is like - what are your weekends like? If you are eating out, drinking lots of alcohol, etc., you can undo on the weekends what you've done during the week. I do agree with the other posters, though - not nearly enough calories for your M-F days.
  • Check out the website allears.com - on the forums they have a list of all the restaurants in all the Disney parks with their menus. You can plan for some healthy options. Have fun!
  • This is so true!!! I just saw a picture of myself from a trip to Vegas DH & I took before baby #2. I remember clearly how fat I felt in my swimsuit - I didn't even get up from my lounge chair to get into the pool, even though I wanted to, because I didn't want everyone to see how fat I was. I even remember when DH wanted…
  • I'm 5'5" and my goal weight is 145. Although, honestly, it's been so long since I was at that weight, I don't really know if that is really THE number for me - and I am okay with it if it is higher or lower. I am curvy, and I like my curves, so I am not interested in being skinny - just curvy & fit! I'll re-evaluate when I…
  • One thing to keep in mind is that the closer you get to your goals, the slower the weight will come off (i.e., the dreaded "last ten pounds"). If your goals are based on you continuing to lose 1.5 pounds a week, then I'm going to say no - that's not reasonable. I agree with the others - don't get too hung up on achieving a…
  • Fage is my absolute favorite Greek yogurt. Aside from mixing in fruit or a little honey, as others have mentioned, it also makes an awesome dip for raw veggies. I use one cup of Fage (plain, 0%), the juice & zest from one lemon, some chopped cilantro & tons of freshly ground black pepper. Mmmm... so delicious! In the…
  • Thanks for sharing! You look great - and I know you FEEL great, too! Awesome job!
  • The only thing I've completely given up is eating at Chinese food buffets. I lose my damn mind there - everything I like is deep-fried, covered in a sweet sauce and served with noodles or white rice, and something about a buffet makes portion control impossible for me. At least at this stage in my journey, I have to stay…
