  • I log on every day and log my food daily. Feel free to add me. I've only been vegan for a little over a month and I would love some support!
  • I went vegan (or as I prefer to say, "plant based") about 3 weeks ago. I went cold tofu and just made up my mind one day to make a lifestyle change for my health. I have found a lot of useful information reading and recipes at Happy Herbivore and Straight Up Foods. When I switched, I stocked up on: beans (canned, dry and…
  • Air Force here (Jan '02-Apr '09). Weather Tech (1W071) Scott AFB, Grand Forks AFB and MTI duty at Lackland. Also trying to get back to my MTI weight/basic training weight. Anyone else is welcome to friend me as well. For sure could use some active friends who have something in common :)
  • Hi everyone, I'm Melissa and I went from being a meat eater to vegan on 1/30/13. I mainly became vegan to prevent health problems that I'm at risk for (a-fib, heart disease). My mom had been vegitarian for about a year and a half and became vegan a couple of months ago, and she really inspired me to change my ways. Since…
  • I use it in mashed potatoes with garlic to make "cheesy" mashed potatoes. I've also used it to make a "cheese" sauce for a mac and cheese dish. I also used it with tofu to make an alfedo sauce. I have only been dairy free for coming up on 3 weeks, so I haven't found the taste of the nutritional yeast all that pleasing by…
  • Hmm... I've been wanting to restar my 30DS and try to make it all the way through. I'll join in!
  • Near Sault Ste Marie here :) Feel free to add me.
  • I joined back in 2011, but fell off the wagon. I'm back now and have an open diary, so feel free to add me :) I too am looking for active friends, as most of mine haven't logged on in months or over a year.
  • Aunt Millies has a low cal bread at 35 cals a slice, but I didn't like the dry texture of it. I usually eat Sara Lee's light 45 cal per slice. For 10 more calories, you get a lot better flavor and texture.
  • I've used whole grain flatbread wraps to make pizza, used the hunts tomato sauce (the small can) with no salt added, fat free mozzarella cheese and turkey pepperoni. It tastes pretty good and keeps me from eating regular pizza. I've also had pizza muffins with the whole wheat or whole grain english muffins. Both are pretty…
  • Thank you! When I decided to make a lifestyle change, that didn't just mean keep eating the highly processed crap I was eating before and just shrink the portion size. It meant adding more fruits, veggies, nuts to my diet and trying my best to eat cleaner. Read the ingriedient lables and try to eat foods as unproccessed as…
  • Make sure to take care of your shin splints. I got them when I was in the military and because I pushed myself, the shin splints turned into stress fractures, which laid me up even longer. Ice, rest and anti-inflamitory are your friends right now. You can still work out, just nothing high impact. Walk if it doesn't hurt,…
  • I don't have a cheat day per se. But on the weekends when we have company up or we have to go out with the inlaws, I will allow myself to have a "cheat meal" if I have to. I make sure to eat a filling meal before (it's usually a lunch or dinner that is my cheat meal) and drink plenty of water as I eat, but I don't feel bad…
  • Corn and asparagus are awesome cooked over a fire if you have a grill grate that fits over the campfire ring. I make tin foil pouches for the corn on the cob and put some salt and pepper in for flavoring, though you could also just place them straight on the grill itself. I am going camping this weekend and thinking of…
  • Try different exercises and see if you can find something you actually do enjoy  You can also get creative (ie just going for a brisk walk around the neighborhood or going to the mall and brisk walking) and most of all, don't think of it as exercise!! Think of it as activity that is changing your life  That…
  • For this site, you need to follow your net calories. When you set up your account, it already figures in a calorie deficit for you. Meaning you would still lose weight if you did no exercise, only ate that many calories (assuming you weren't eating tons of sodium or something to cause water retention). If you exercise and…
  • I agree with the above posts. Get one with a chest strap. I was initially against a chest strap HRM, mainly because I thought they would feel bulky or uncomfortable. I ended up going with the Polar FT7 and I  it as well. It's not the least bit uncomfortable and is very accurate on my heart rate and calories burned.…
  • I use a heart rate monitor with a chest strap to accurately measure my calories burned. Some days I'm more into the 30DS and push harder and some days, I take it slightly easier.
  • Welcome to the site! I am also a vet, Air Force from 02-09. This site is amazing for support, friendship, helping to count calories and log exercises. Feel free to add me as a friend!
  • REI also has a great selection of day packs, but do be prepared to spend a few $$ for a good pack. I get all of my backpacking gear from REI. http://www.rei.com/search?query=day+packs
  • Yes! The first time I saw that ad I thought it was cruel to have an ad like that. Tempting and cruel LOL.
  • Yep! Former Air Force here. Trying to get back to my Drill Instructor weight...and then a little less!
  • Friend request sent! Welcome to the group :)
  • From what I understand, the waist measurement should be taken about where your jeans sit, about at the navel. As far as the hips, I believe your booty is included, as the tape measurer should go right over the wides part of the hip bones.

  • Welcome to the group! A friend request is on the way :)
  • Welcome to the group! This is an awesome community for advice, motivation and support. Feel free to friend me if you'd like!
  • I've steered clear of a cheat day, because I feel that a whole day of eating off your plan doesn't really help. I have been eating healthier for a month and a half, and during that time, I have had a couple of "cheat" meals. A couple of weeks ago, I was craving pizza. A big slice of greasy cheese filled pepperoni pizza. I…
  • I only drink tap and my city's water was actually voted Best Tasting in Michigan. I haven't drank bottled water in years. I just carry around my own BPA free hiking water bottle and wash it daily.
  • Hiya! You're going to love it here. Everyone is really helpful and motivational :D A friend request was sent!
