  • I am not a runner although I do my best to run as part of my fitness plan. However, I started spinning last year after being challenged by my sister-in-law... and now I am hooked. Spinning does not recreate the outside terrain; however, you can adjust your resistance to mimic climbs and do full out sprints. The instructors…
  • There is a setting that you can turn on or off. It may have been switched at some point.
  • I log everything using my Fitbit. If there is a specific exercise, I make sure I start/stop the exercise at the appropriate times. I do not enter anything in MFP. This way I know steps/activity will not be double counted.
  • I do not drink a lot of coffee, but when I do.... I will grab a medium ice coffee with 2 shots of sweetened caramel and 2 shots of lite cream from McDonald's. I stop by McDonald's because it is only a $1.07 or $1.08, depending on whether I purchase it in MA or RI, respectively. The calorie count based on a review of the…
  • Outstanding... I tip my hat to you.... well done young lady!
  • Planning ahead is the key although I find that our plans are often disrupted because of the sports, errands and all the other stuff we have going on. As everybody has said.... the crock pot is usually the go-to meal preparer. We mainly do chicken, pulled pork or meatballs so they can tossed into a roll for a sub/sandwich.…
  • When I first bought a fitbit, I compared the calorie burn calculated by the elliptical and treadmill to that calorie burn calculated by my fitbit hrm and a polar cheststrap hrm. I found the fitbit hrm to be within 5% of the polar cheststrap hrm. Since the cheststrap is a pain, I just use my Fitbit Blaze for my calorie burn…
  • I recently bought the Blaze and really enjoy it. As for overestimating steps, I set it for my dominate arm and then wear it on my non-dominant arm. This way it is far less sensitive to "counting" steps when you are walking or jogging.
  • Fantastic.... Keep going strong!
  • Awesome work... your hard work clearly paid off! Keep going strong!
  • Good morning. I tend to weigh myself every 2-3 days but my "main" weigh in is every Monday. I used to be obsessed with the scale, but now it is just another measure to my progress. Good luck on your journey!
  • Hi. Although I am in a different boat than you and the ladies who have posted so far, I was up and down too... and unfortunately more up than down since college. But after hearing some tough words from my kids and my wife agreeing with them, I decided to make a change. So since Aug. 21, 2014, I have lost 60 lbs and my plan…
  • Joining MFP and making friends is a great start on dropping the 30-40 lbs you want to lose. You will find plenty of information and support. Good luck. Feel free to add me if are looking for more friends. I can also recommend some awesome people on MFP. Be well, be healthy, be happy!
  • JennaMarie... editorgrrl hit the nail right on the head. Management everything through MFP and only enter non-stepped based activity like lifting weights, cycling/spin, etc... Regardless of whether you enter into the app or via computer, everything should sync up. If you are looking for support and encouragement, feel free…
  • I believe that is a Boston Creme donut.... one of my favorites, yet I do not miss it as much as I thought I would. :-) I returned to MFP about a month ago so I am relatively "new". This time has been different so if you are interested and ready, I would definitely like to support and encourage you.. and anybody else who is…
  • Hi. Sounds like you are off to a great start. MFP is a great place because you will find plenty of encouragement and support from the friends you make here. I have been back for a month and things are going well. If you would like some encouragement and support, please feel free to add me as a friend. Good luck! All the…
  • Hi. I returned to MFP about a month ago and the support and encouragement has been great. Feel free to add me if you would like support and encouragement.
  • I didn't think turning 40 a couple of years ago was too bad until…. Now I am refocused and making progress. Feel free to add me if you want encouragement and support.
  • Hi. I think you will love your fitbit. I started using my regularly a couple of months ago and since I returned to MFP several weeks ago, I have not been without it unless it is charging. One tip I can give since I sent in a question to MFP for clarification, is that you should not enter your workouts in MFP is the fitbit…
  • Welcome. If you are looking for support, feel free to add me. I started at 321 and have dropped 26 lbs. I also had blood work completed last week and my numbers drastically improved. It takes commitment but the help and support of friends on MFP is invaluable.

  • Caitlyn... Welcome to MFP. Just joining the site and writing an introduction is a great start. you will find that MFP has some great tools and there are plenty of encouraging and supportive people to help you along the way. The big thing I continue to hear is... one day at a time. Also start making some goals so you can…
  • Marysa... I am a product manager so I am pretty much chained to my desk on conference calls, working on presentations, doing research, etc... so I know the feelings you have about eating. The thing that has helped me the most is making sure I stay hydrated. I make sure I drink at least 20 ounces or water between meals and…
  • Good morning. I have had the same feelings in the past but one key is to realize that you need to take things one day at a time. You can set some small goals like going for a 10 minute walk or going to the gym at least once a week. Find a starting place, MFP is a great start, and slowly build momentum. There is plenty of…
  • Welcome to MFP. You will find that the friends you make will provide a tremendous amount of support and encouragement, but all the difference it you. I had been on MFP a couple of years back, and I just returned a few weeks ago because I knew I needed to make a change. Any start is a step in the right direction, but do not…

  • I just came back a few weeks ago after originally joining a couple of years back. I couldn't agree with you more that our weight situation has nothing to do with anything other than our own choices. And returning to MFP and finding supportive friends is a choice you have made so leveraging it to the max is key. I find that…
  • You are taking a big step in the right direction. I just returned to MFP after being absent for the past couple of years and gaining 50 plus lbs. The past couple of weeks have been great because the network of friends and the support they provide is amazing. The comments and advice the members have posted before me are…
  • Welcome back... I too found my way back just a couple of weeks ago, and I have found some great friends who are providing a tremendous amount of support. Good luck reaching your goal! Feel free to add me if you want some added support.
  • Welcome back. I too just returned about 2 weeks ago after being absent for well over a year. So far I have found a great support network, and I find that I look forward to the challenge every day brings on.
  • Ashlee... welcome back. I just started over again 8 days ago and the help and support from others on MFP has been great and made a huge difference. I would welcome the opportunity to encourage you along the way. Although I live in MA and married a "yankee" girl, I will forever be a Texan... grew up 30 miles southwest of…
