  • I'm back on MFP after being off for about a year. I lost 60 pounds and then gained back 40 in the time I was off MFP. In the time I was off, my favorite friend defriended me. It bummed me out. She was a good friend. I watched her lose about 60 pounds and change her profession, her outlook and her life. I had several…
  • I can relate. I lost 60 pounds and gained 40 back when I went off of MFP. I have recently lost 10 and I am planning on losing about 30 more pounds. I have come to the realization that it is not a matter of eating to lose weight, but that if i want to be healthy, I need to eat the way I eat when I lose weight. If I eat a…
  • Aside from growing older, I think there can be peaks and valleys. I do think a three mile walk instead of an intense spin class can be a good thing. I also think it is important to listen to your body.
  • My wife used to be a pt and made a living fixing backs by strengthening abs. Anything you can do to strengthen your abs without challenging your back would be helpful. Getting in a pool and walking with tight abs might help. Not sure why you are getting upper body pain when your hip joint is out.
  • Annpt77. I can relate to feeling that your work doesn't compare to these guys, but I think that you did great and should be proud. These guys are pros. I have a friend a few years older than me who bought a house a few miles away that overlooks streams coming off the James river. He owns a brick company. In a few short…
  • Amen. I know, look at the basket you stupid kittens. A guy I know from the past came into the gym a few weeks ago. He is over 60, not sure his exact age. Drives a Harley with a leather sleeveless coat. The guy is huge, if I had to guess, he can bench 400 pounds. He told me he wants to be stronger than his son. He is still…
  • Was walking in the gym the other day and there was a pretty young lady sitting on the bench outside the door. I walk with a limp because my hip is sore. Before I got to the door, she jumped up and ran to open the door for me. I said , 'Thank you', and she said 'Have a great workout'. I took it as an act of kindness and…
  • If you wear a sleeveless shirt while shopping, they might not ask to help
  • The Encapulation seals off the crawl space, so humidity has to come through the floors. If humidity can flow beneath your house, I don't think the type of heat matters. It's going to get humid down there.
  • Last year I dragged out all of my insulation from my crawl space, I thought pipes were leaking there was so much water down there. It was all water from humidity. There is debate about crawl space encapsulation and termites, but I refused to replace that insulation and let humid air flow into my crawl space and have to…
  • People in this group will tell you they have lost weight and they will also tell you they have a lot of friends who have lost weight. Feel free to add me as a friend. I have seen several people, including myself who have lost a lot of weight. Get youself a bunch of friends, read the success stories, figure out how people…
  • I got a pt referral in February when my doctor diagnosed my hip. I did 5 months of pt, mostly stretching with some mobilization and strengthening. I learned how to stretch. You just relax and hold the stretch for 90 seconds. I more then doubled my range of motion in that time. I have continued to stretch at least 20…
  • https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=UMKwPkM2sfM This is my new cardio exercise. Can't run or walk for distance, but I can do this.
  • I liked that video too. I'm dealing with an arthritic hip. I don't walk right because my back and hip muscles have conspired to protect my hip. Have been doing 20 minutes of stretching each day and have been doing exercises to strengthen my legs and back. It takes time. But if you can identify the problem muscles, you…
  • I just reread the OP post. Sorry if I didn't respond to the post. I workout after work, so after I workout, I sleep. So I don't pay attention to recovery time. I do get fatigued in the late afternoon, and I will have an iced coffee and 4 cups of water prior to my workout. I have never felt fatigue at any time except in the…
  • Losing weight is a good goal, but I think the emphasis needs to be move it or lose it. Muscles that are not used will weaken. We all need to have the attitude that we will continue to move as long as we are able. I have a frozen shoulder that doesn't move right. I got therapy and strengthened it. It still isn't right, but…
  • I was on the ESAD diet which made me really fat. This app helped me lose a lot of weight until I got to a certain weight. Now it is hard and I'm not willing to eat less at this point. I liked the article. A while ago, someone posted an article about being an experiment of one, or something like that. This article reminds…
  • I agree with montepulciano, I eat better and less. I don't know if age has anything to do with it, but I do believe the way I ate that got me to 270 pounds was just bad.
  • Yes we are a nation that doesn't understand true hunger. I hope it stays that way for my children.
  • If I put 225 pounds or more on the bar and bench it or dead lift it I end up dealing with pain. I want to lift but I'm not interested in a plan that will take me to a place where I am in pain as a result. I lift lower weight for 30-60 minutes pretty much non stop. I'm not burning my muscles out, so I just move from one…
  • I think the article implies two things. Number one, keep working it, number two, old people have a severe disadvantage in muscle growth compared to younger people. I tried lifting like a young person a few years ago and kept hurting myself. Now I lift almost daily and do it while realizing my limitations. I can't lose…
  • Good job. Keep going.
  • I'm sorry lulu. Loving someone forever is a great thing, you are both blessed to have each other. I hope you get some good news.

  • Keep killing it. I take a 30 minute insanity clas on Wednesday. Not many people in the class and they are all much younger. I find if I can push myself to keep pace with the youngsters for half the class, I get a great workout. I am not competing to beat anyone, just pushing, myself. Keep pushing. You only sweat when you…
  • lost 1 pound this week SW. 225 CW. 215 GW. 205 Half way there.
  • I weigh every day. I find that when I am losing weight, my weight will fluctuate 4-8 pounds at different times during the week. If I am at a plateau, it does not fluctuate so much. It helps me get a better sense of what my actual weight is. I record my weight on Friday morning, but I will take into account how much of that…
