  • I found out that I hate purposeful exercise, but I LOVE activity based exercise. I can go on a grueling 2 hour hike and love every minute of it. Put me on a treadmill for a half an hour, I want to die. I can dance, bounce around and be silly for a half an hour in my own living room with the kids, or do a workout video that…
  • Me too...my baby is seven years old. It's probably past time...lol
  • Thought of another thing.....being short usually goes hand in hand with having children's sized feet. Not too many stilettos available in the children's department. I have to special order heels in a 4.5 and it's pretty inconvenient and spendy.
  • Fair point. I've been called an "ankle biter" on more than one occasion when asserting myself.
  • 5'1 here! Definitely top grocery shelf...where you resort to taking something off a lower shelf and hope to use it to knock what you really need down from the top! 5 lbs on a short gal is like 10 on someone taller Although.....once you get in your 30s and everyone assumes early 20s it's not a bad gig! The short takes like…
  • My doctor has never mentioned me being overweight, even though I'm technically about 40 lbs over, which is obese at my height. I brought it up to him about six months ago, and he was very compassionate and recommended many things to get back on the right track. Weight loss pills were NEVER mentioned.
  • Clearly Canadian carbonated drink!
  • Since you are recovering from an eating disorder, I'm not sure seeking advice in an open forum is your best bet. Please talk to your doctor/counselor about any questions relating to binging/fasting and the possible health repercussions from that behavior.
  • At our gym, kids of any age aren't allowed in the cardio or weight rooms under the age of 14 and even then have to complete a certification course. We also have a daycare area there which is where I drop mine off at.... I'm surprised the gym would allow a newborn infant around such equipment. Seems like a big liability…
  • You absolutely don't have to go to the gym. Personally I find the gym motivates me and drains all the funds I would have spent on...say....fast food, but you can get plenty of exercise with no cost to you. Walking is GREAT. You can strength train with objects you have lying around the house. You can lose plenty of weight…
  • Wow....that's quick!! I want to lose around 40 and I think it will take the better part of a year. Well done!
  • My uncle had bypass surgery and passed away from complications 5 days later. This was about 10 years ago and I'm sure advances have been made since then. My aunt recently had the gastric sleeve and seems to be doing well. I do know it's far from the "easy way out" many people make it out to be...but should definitely only…
  • Once a month, and even that's depressing. I learned pretty quick to ignore the scale and just take weekly pictures to compare. I lost around 5 pounds last month but it was a big 5 pounds!
  • I'm not big on breakfast either. I try to grab a granola/nutrition bar on my way out the door for later though, because by 10am or so I am finally hungry. Ravenous, really. Having something in my belly before lunch has really made it easier to make healthy choices for meals.
  • I'm 5'1 and 170. Not an old profile pic, I just don't carry much weight in my face. :). I put on a ton of weight....50lbs....during my last pregnancy while on bed rest for seven months and got into some really bad habits. 7 years is probably long enough to keep on the "baby weight"! Not sure of my final goal…
  • I'm 5'1, so short is okay by me. Too tall is just awkward for me and much to the delight of all my shorter former flames I'm not a high heels sort of gal. My husband is 5'7. I guess that's the equivalent of someone 5'6 dating a 6 footer though. I've never had the opportunity to date a guy shorter than me. I'm sure they're…
  • I'm 5'1 so I do feel your pain. The good news is, it's no harder for us shorties to lose weight, and every few pounds lost is noticeable. That said, and having been in your shoes and wanting to just get down to a certain weight at your age and still not being happy when I got there...are you sure it wouldn't be better if…
  • I'm having the opposite experience of most people. My Polar F24 shows me burning about 10 cal a minute for intense exercise, which for me is usually a sustained heart rate of 160-170 bpm. The calorie burn shown on my HRM is nearly twice what I usually come up with for MFP estimates and the gym equipment. My guess is that…
  • I spoke to a nutritionist with the same concern a few months back as I was always over. His response was that for an otherwise healthy person, the only sugar intake he would be concerned about are added sugars in processed foods, candy, soda. 3-4 servings of fruit a day are just fine. They are filling, tasty, loaded with…
  • I have a similar regimen, though I eat 1200 net and closer to 1600 total. I'm barely over 5 ft tall so it works for me. The first month I lost 5 measly pounds....but the before and afters did not lie. There was a big difference to my body for only having dropped 5 lbs. I find that if I take a couple of days off from…
  • moderation for SURE! Though I try my best to avoid trigger foods devoid of any nutritional value like chips. I'll still have them once a month or so.....but I buy a single serve bag. Otherwise it would end badly. :) In a perfect world I'd be eating nothing but grilled chicken breast atop a leafy green bed of salad, but…
  • A couple of things I've personally noticed. If I skip workouts for two or three days after the scale is stalled a while, I'll be down 2-3 lbs next time I check. I had a friend skip for 2 weeks and she dropped nearly 10 lbs with no changes to her diet. (Not recommending this, just to demonstrate the mysteries of the human…
  • It depends on how much I've worked out that day, as MFP adjusts and I do eat back a good portion (if not ALL) of my calories from exercise. Anywhere from 40-75. I'm barely 5' tall so I have my settings at 1200 calories if I haven't worked out, and try to get 1200 net if I have. I'm almost never under by more than 5, but…
  • Jesus of Suburbia- Green Day
  • No worries, I didn't find it rude. I wasn't trying to necessarily speak for all men, it's just in my experience I have found that most men I personally know date a range of body types from small to well proportioned women who might be considered a bit on the larger side. That's not to say that they all will date anything…
  • I have the Polar F24. It was $60 with 2 day shipping on Amazon. It's very easy to use. I was using it like a pro within 2 minutes.....however, I do feel like the calories burned it gives me might be on the high side. For "in the zone" activities, it's about 10 calories a minute. The gym machine might tell me 250 for 45…
  • Attraction does matter....but....as far as the weight issue, taking a gander at your pics...you are one hot momma. Seriously, you are proportioned and gorgeous. In your case, I really don't think it's the weight unless you've had the misfortune of finding man after man only attracted to one certain willowy thin body type.…
  • My family is full of big 'uns.....at 40 lbs heavier than I should be at 5'1, I'm the smallest adult female by far. So....as far as family goes, I've only had two people say anything to me about it. My brother (who has his own demons to wrestle with) and my grandfather who had severe dementia at the time. It wasn't…
