1 pound weight loss in first week

Options
I walked five miles a day, ate under 1400 calories and completely cut out junk food out of my diet. I only lost one pound and I don't know why this is. Am I doing something wrong?

One pound lost is perfectly fine, especially with how much you want to lose

It takes longer than 1 week, Its not a race... Weight loss takes time.

Just keep doing what your doing - Pick healthy choices & exercise... It will come off

As a rule of thumb, the following weekly targets would give a balance between minimizing negative side effects and seeing a reasonable weekly weight loss:

    More than 75 lbs: 2 lbs/week
    40-75 lbs: 1.5 lbs/week
    10-40 lbs: 1 lb/week
    Less than 10 lbs: 0.5 lb/week

1lb a week is fine. It's healthy and sustainable. Well done!

I have a similar regimen, though I eat 1200 net and closer to 1600 total. I'm barely over 5 ft tall so it works for me. The first month I lost 5 measly pounds....but the before and afters did not lie. There was a big difference to my body for only having dropped 5 lbs. I find that if I take a couple of days off from exercise I drop a pound or two immediately....or if I have a couple of big eating days a couple pounds will roll off. The body is a strange thing. I am about 30 lbs from goal and expect it to take about 6 months. 1 lb a week is a safe and respectable loss.
