  • You're doing great. Slow and steady wins the race. Remember, when you get near your goal weight, just adjust your calories so that when the day comes you don't have to "go" to maintenance - you're already there.
  • I'm lucky, the main thing the pandemic did was to keep me at home and give me an excuse to overeat. Wish I hadn't done so much of it! But that is the past. So I am very happy to finally be getting rid of these Pandemic Pounds.
  • I thought from "you might think" it was pretty obvious I was joking, but in case anybody took it seriously, I WAS JOKING AND THE VACCINE DOES NOT PROMOTE WEIGHT LOSS.
  • Actually the problem for me is that I have arthritis in both hands and wrists and an injury (hit and run on a bike) in my left wrist so I get a lot of hand pain if I ride a road bike. The skinny tires on road bikes transfer way too much of the jolting to the handlebars and to my hands. On the fat tires of a MTB it's…
  • A conversation with my doctor turned things around for me. When is the last time your son had a physical? If you could make that happen, that might be what he needs to get started. You might also point him to the thread "Success Stories" on here and let him see other people like him who've gotten it done. Good luck!
  • Good job invoking the willpower! I think part of the problem here is you are keeping those "treats" available so they are ALWAYS talking to you, tempting you. If you get rid of them, it will stop. Also, I have found that once I stop eating sugar for about three or four days, the cravings disappear. Give it a shot. Just…
  • Congratulations, very inspiring. Would you mind sharing some of your tricks for maintaining your weight where you're at now? How many calories a day are you eating and how much are you exercising? This would help me as I approach (slowly) my goal weight. Thanks.
  • Congratulations, Josh. Your photo is very inspiring. Would you mind sharing a few of your top tricks? How about plans for maintaining, can you quickly describe your daily amount of calories and exercise? I am approaching my goal weight and very interested in learning from those who have done it.
  • If you are "thin," why are you restricting calories? I find this thread very confusing and a little off-putting. You are sabotaging yourself, and your husband is sabotaging you, but perhaps it's because you don't need to lose weight? If you do, start by getting rid of all the sweets. That's the best advice here. Give them…
  • I looked into the surgery. I decided to do the pre-op diet on my own, just to see if it would work for me. It worked. I just kept going with that, and joined MFP, and got a bicycle, and started riding every day, and that's how it all happened. I used the surgery as a negative motivator - I wanted to prove I could do this…
  • As I said in my profile, I think my bike saved my life. I don't like road bikes or skinny tires because I get too much pain in my hands, a sign of oncoming arthritis I guess. With a MTB I can ride my 24 mi every day and not suffer at all. One summer I had to ride a road bike and the hand pain increased exponentially. So…
  • That's an excellent point, it has cut way down on the impulse buying at the store for me too. I only go in for stuff to fill in around what comes in the meal boxes - usually I had some salads and extra green veg especially now in summer when there is so much good fresh stuff. That's cool that it's got your kids cooking…
  • Pickle juice. It really works. Drink a big slug when the cramp starts. It's sold in small bottles in bike stores for this purpose.
  • Panda, do you think they save you money or cost more? I think I save a little bit overall, and I definitely throw less food away. Another thing I like is I definitely throw about half the previous amount of garbage away because with the meal delivery I'm not using all that excess packaging.
  • Congratulations on a great job. I like what you said about just adding things back to your life, not taking things away. Having lost the same 100 lbs about 5 times now, I am hoping that this time, when I get close to the weight I want to stay, I can adapt more of your attitude and stop beating myself up. All the beating-up…
  • This is true. Often times the Marley Spoon recipe calls for 2 Tbsp of butter and I just make that 1 tbsp, same with oil and some of the other ingredients. It's easy to alter them to make them even lighter and I find the meals are pretty filling as prepared.... It does help me with seeing what other people consider "a…
  • "It's funny how people are so different. For me, having something prepared that I can open the fridge and pop in the microwave has been the best way for me to maintain my weight and lose when I need to. Most of the time I'd rather go hungry than cook, especially after work and all that adulting life stuff. Unfortunately,…
  • Yeah, I really like to cook, and Marley Spoon wouldn't work for someone who doesn't. I like it because the food is fresh and I prepared it, the recipes are tasty, and as I said it almost totally eliminates food waste. I really hate throwing expensive produce away because I couldn't cook it all. I also thinking cooking my…
  • I know you said you don't want to cook, but I have had great luck with the Marley Spoon/Martha Stewart kits. They've really helped with my weight loss. You have to order 2 servings of each entree, so any time you cook, you're taking care of two meals. They have a wide range of low-calorie and low-carb options that are…
  • One recent moment was pulling out a pair of regular, unhemmed jeans, with a less-than-40 waist, and they fit for the first time in about 10 years. That was nice! They're still comfortable, too.
  • I agree with ninerbuff that you might try eating 1000 more calories for a couple of days. Sounds like your body has gone into starvation mode and is hanging on to every calorie. If you really just eat 1000 more calories for 2 days, that's not even enough to gain one lb., but may be just what's needed to get your body to…
  • Laurie, if you chop that garlic and brown it in 1 tsp of oil, you'll only add 45 calories to your potatoes but they will be delicious and garlicky. Tonight Martha Stewart came to the rescue again. I had the Marley Spoon steak au poivre with caramelized carrots and spinach salad, very tasty, 660 kcal. Martha and MFP are a…
  • I was sitting at the bar of a True Food Kitchen when the waiter delivered all 3 of my courses at once. Soup, salad, app. 800 calories total. My second meal of the day. A very "fit" couple came to pick up their takeout order. I guess they thought their masks concealed the sound of their voices, because they immediately…
  • Has anybody tried the meal kits from Marley Spoon/Martha Stewart? They've got lots of healthy choices each week and it's reasonably priced, zero food waste. Tonight I'll be having honey-Dijon glazed steak with roasted green beans and potatoes, generous dinner comes in at 630 calories. Check them out, folks, this plan has…
  • Hey Heather! Best of luck to you. Maybe think about a bicycle, either stationary or a regular bike. It has a very low impact and great calorie burn for the effort expended. Plus it's fun. You can do this!
  • I just have to recommend a bicycle. In the park where I ride, I see big people trudging along or trying to run and looking so uncomfortable and in pain. Biking with no stress on your joints is easy and fun, and you can go as slow as you need while you're getting started. It's the only form of exercise that feels like fun…
  • One suggestion: drop the idea of a "cheat day." This plan has to be for life. So you have to figure out how to make it work for you without cheating. Otherwise it's a constant tug of war - should I? Should I not? I've EARNED this! Etc etc you know the drill. Easier just to say: I follow these rules I have set for myself.
  • My absolute best trick, and one I use eating at home too, is to get a cup of soup before the meal. This really ups the satisfaction/fullness level and most places have at least one healthy soup on the menu.
  • I have a sweet tooth too. One of my favorite hacks is to make the Snoop and Martha Stewart Famous Brownie recipe but use Swerve sweetener for the brownie and frosting. It comes out to about 200 calories for a big brownie and will totally satisfy that craving. Plus, since there's no sugar, it doesn't make you crave sugar.
  • Start an exercise plan. Do it every single day. Focusing on just this at first will allow you to line up your eating and everything else and get back to the groove you were on before. Be kind to yourself but stop the rewards with food - reward yourself with more exercise and find kinds of movement you enjoy, that's key to…
