  • I just want to say all you ladies look absolutely AMAZING - and you all are something that I aspire too. I had an epiphany while I was looking through this thread last night . . . I NEED to stop being a lazy butt and start lifting and keep with it. I also realized that I am a cardio junkie (well, I am for my bike - I ride…

  • THIS. My mother, healthy as a horse, *always* took a flu shot because she worked as a nurse in a nursing home. She did what she did every year, except this past October, she developed Gillian Barre' syndrome after getting the flu shot and ended up passing away very suddenly from complications she developed. I had to sit…
  • 52 minutes 14.4 mph avg 12.5 miles
  • Your lower legs (calves or shins?) are bothering you? Hmm. I ride 4-5 times a week and only when I changed to a road shoe (stiffer soles) did my calves start fatiguing while riding, but they don't get sore after a ride. Only part of me that's sore after a ride is my quads and my rear sometimes. :\ It might be that you're…
  • I loathe going to the gym. I'd really just rather ride my bike until my legs fall off. :)
  • "So sad compartively speaking . . . 2.5 miles around 7-8mph 20 minutes" No it's not! Everyone has to start somewhere and doing a little is a lot better than doing nothing at all! I only started riding a year ago in February and I only started out doing 5 or so miles. :) Once I got stronger, it became a full-blown addiction.
  • 7/8 19.5 miles ETA - 104 miles for July so far. :) 1 hour 29 min 13.13 mph (recovery/easy day)
  • Count me in! I ride regularly, 4-5 times a week until the days get too short to ride after work. My goal is to put at least 750 more miles by the end of this year. Anyway, my ticker (that hopefully will post correctly) only shows miles I've ridden since the beginning of July. Today's ride: 31.5 miles 14.7 mph 2 hours 10…
  • Padded shorts! I balked at this at first, but my bum thanked me when I finally relented and got some. :)
  • Okay, well as most cyclists, I DO own a car and I DO pay thousands of dollars a year for my car through insurance, taxes, registration, what have you that makes you guys feel more entitled to use the road than us. That being said, I have just as much right to be on the road that I PAY TAXES FOR whether I'm in my vehicle or…
  • bump for later!
  • Where I live (in OK) you're treated as if you're a vehicle. You CAN ride on highways, just not the interstate (though I'm not ballsy enough to even try a highway -- thanks but no thanks!) you have to stop at stoplights and stop signs or you can be (and should be) ticketed, and at least in the town I live in (not sure about…
  • I agree -- I was done in about 30 minutes and felt guilty for being done so quick. It's nice adding cardio back in. For me, it's not so much the burn, but I *feel* better when I do cardio. It'll be nice to see some fat melt off, too. I know I got some muscles under here somewhere. . . .
  • I didn't check inches. . . the scale did not budge at all. Matter of fact, I gained a few pounds. Not sure if I was eating too much or what. I'm noticing it's a fine line between enough and too little. :\ It's a numbers game I guess as far as calories go. I have week 2 of phase 2 starting tomorrow and looking forward to…
  • I'm kind of where you're at -- still have 30-35 pounds I'd like to lose and I've been lurking on the forums for advice and it seems that weight training is the way to go, with cardio, of course. I started with bodybuilding.com and went with Jamie Eason's Livefit Trainer and so far, I'm loving it. It's hard, don't get me…
  • Well, I started phase 2 today -- ouch! I rearranged the workouts a bit -- my hubby likes to do legs with me on Sundays, so I actually start the week with that -- lemme tell ya -- my legs were JELLO by the time I was done and it was only a 35 minute workout! (Means I'm doing it right, so says the hubby) ;) I'm really really…
  • She means not many calories earned since strength training doesn't burn as much as cardio when logging. :) I had a hard time with that, too -- I was used to burning a ton of calories with cycling and spin class and the whole concept of eat more but burn less really was hard for me to do. But it makes sense -- you're not…
  • I'm actually repeating week three because I had a, uh, motivation/consistency problem last week. I missed a couple of days (i did three out of the five) but want to do it RIGHT. So, I'm back on track now. :) I'm just having a hard time motivating myself to get out of bed early to get my lifting done and out of the way…
  • Lunges, I also do with dumbbells -- 10 pounds in each hand is about all I can do right now. :)
  • I have the New Rules book for women and I'm currently doing Jamie Eason's Livefit program right now -- on week three. Both are great places to get started and show you exactly what equipment to use and how to use it. I'm going to dive into the New Rules lifting program after completing Jamie Eason's program. :)
  • The too much added sugar thing. . . yeah. There's so much added sugar to A LOT of things now days. As far as protein bars -- that's why I'm just going to keep making my own -- I was pretty impressed with the taste of those and they're not loaded with sugar. I just look at the labels of everything I buy and try to do the…
  • I LOATHE getting up early but I'd rather just get my workout over early in the day so I have no excuses after I get off work and believe me, I'll have PLENTY by the time I get home. I hate hate hate getting up earlier than I have to but like another person mentioned before, the first 2 weeks have been the hardest. I'm now…
  • I didn't do the walking lunges; there's not enough room at the gym for that. However, I did regular lunges with dumbells and just stepped in and out of them. It's going to be essentially the same effect as far as muscles it works. Oh, and I LOATHE lunges. And squats. My legs don't hurt today, though. It took 4 days for the…
  • I found oat flour in the organic section of our grocery store, btw. Next up for me is the meatloaf recipe. Looks yummy!
  • @debwaid -- maybe you pulled a muscle? Kind of what it sounds like to me. Congrats on the pushups, by the way! I can only do, like, 5. Pushups are by far the most difficult things for me to do. I try. . . but that seems to be the weakest part of all my parts. :grumble: I'm thinking instead of doing them only when I have to…
  • I tried the turkey chili -- it's SO GOOD. Also tried the pumpkin protein bars -- those are surprisingly really good too.
  • I started week 3 today -- wow. Just -- wow. My legs are *still* telling me about it! I guess this is where we get to take the training wheels off, huh? I pushed myself to go heavier and although I'll be paying for it tomorrow, it feels pretty good to accomplish what I did. :) I'm actually looking forward to my 3:30 wake up…
