  • ...and you know this how?. Does your mouth absorb sodium in a way that is unfamiliar to the rest of us? Do as your doctor tells you.
  • YES. The problem with blacks, gays, and the mentally retarded is totally that they're not standing up for themselves. If only they would get out there and fight prejudice instead of waiting for others to do it for them, everything would be fine.
  • Aaaaargh. That's not it at all. But I guess this is the age of tl;dr.
  • it doesn't. I am 35, I drink a bottle of wine over 2-3 nights with dinner every week, and typically drink heavily one night a weekend (~4 strong cocktails). I try to fit the wine into my calorie goals. But not the weekend binge, so that's my cheat day. 20+ lbs in 5 weeks and counting. Sure, I would have lost more without…
  • So this is the "unrealistically good" picture of lady gaga? How can anyone (1) fail to notice the grotesquely small size of the body (look at the hands!!!), and (2) think this looks good?
  • So you have a special condition. Not sure why you're getting so worked up about this. There are exceptions to everything. You are an exception. (Heck, it took a neurological condition for you to be an exception. What does that tell you?) Great. We recognize that. Moving on.
  • Lol. OP, thank you for starting this thread so I don't have to. I have noticed the same thing: wanting to look good is oddly villainized around here. Incredulously, I have read endless claptrap about how little looks matter, on a site where everyone is furiously working to reshape their body. At the same time, the same…
  • I routinely mix an avocado with a can of tuna. Treat the tuna bit w lime juice, then add some balsamic and season the whole thing (I add salt, pepper, mustard). I use it as a dip for bread. The yield is big enough to be a meal.
  • No it's really not. The body is not a car. There is no momentum, where ramping up to a certain heart rate requires more energy than maintaining that heart rate (if that were even the case for cars). Calories are a unit of energy. You move more you burn more. You move less you burn less.
  • This is the best and most reasonable advice offered in this thread. Much of the rest is completely insane.
  • This exemplifies my single biggest problem with the (otherwise invaluable) food database: just what the hell is a "slice"? For some things, it's easy because there is an informal standard. A slice of toast looks and weighs pretty much the same everywhere (in this country). But a slice of ham? The difference in size and…
  • I am a man... Your point about extending this concern to men is well-noted. Your suggestion that both genders are equally affected by body-shaming and objectification is hogwash. I think this speaks for itself.
  • Please. What a load of hogwash. (1) Objectification and body-shaming is DISPROPORTIONATELY directed at females. (2) Absolutely no one is arguing that men are exempt from it. (3) BOTH are a direct result of patriarchy. Women did NOT create that "he-man" ideal. MEN did.
  • Yeah, me too. The question betrays an ignorance if something far more fundamental than calorie counting.
  • Nearly every day, as part of a 250 cal snack (an ounce of cheese is 100, the rest is bread). Lately I have been eating goat cheese, typically 70 but I've seen as low as 50 cal/oz. I rarely feel the need for more than an ounce in one sitting.
  • Sigh. Short answer is no. Longer answer is that there may be some minute decrease because blended stuff is probably easier to digest. On the other hand, there may be some minute increase because of greater nutrient absorption (e.g., if you don't chew your spinach well enough to break thru the collulose that covers it, you…
  • Huh. Drinks, like everything else, have calories. You make room for it like everything else. I usually down a bottle of wine over two evenings in a week and I dutyfully make them fit and log those (like every "treat", I typically do this on days when I feel like I'm going to be under calorie). But I also go out once a week…
  • Yeah goal setti.g is tricky because you don't really know what to expect. I have a one year goal and a six month goal. Then I set a new monthly goal every month. I DON'T have the months planned out in advance. I have no idea how much I'm gonna weight in April. But based on the past few weeks, I have a reasonable idea of…
  • OP spoke from candid ignorance and has acknowledged as much. She seems humble and willing to learn. But please, let's keep piling on!
  • Congrats, it feels great to get more fit.
  • There is no such thing as "toning". You either have a low enough body fat and a big enough muscles for them to be visible, or you don't. That girl has lower body fat, though I rather doubt its 20lbs worth. She may also have bigger muscles. OP, go lift some weights. No, it won't make you "bulky". EDIT: I too suspect it's…
  • Lol. Wow, you guys can be awful. Bro has a massive crush. Isn't that what happens when you're a teenager? Why the hate?
  • Limit your discussions of the subject with her.
  • How can you maintain at ~3700+? Lots of muscles? Sorry but you don't look that big on your profile pic. I am a hulking 6'3", ~340lbs bro (nowadays) with quite a bit of muscle mass and I'm pretty sure my TDEE is less than that. Not trying to diss you, I am genuinely curious. How tall and heavy are you? And BF%?
  • This. I am all for personal responsibility, but some like to pretend that people live in a vacuum and that outside influences never matter (e.g., the childish refrain of "nobody is fooooooooorcing you to eat crap!"). They do, to various extent. Obesity is a huge and worsening problem in this country (the US) and some…
  • A lot of people regain after they lose. You are never going you be fat again. You have felt and expressed the anguish and pain of your former state far too keenly and accurately to allow yourself to go back. You will never forget or be in denial about those horrible days. And that's the ultimate victory. Congratulations.
  • Sounds like you have a lot to lose. You can easily lose without exercise at the beginning. Plug in the numbers and do what MFP tells you. Barring an eating disorder or an unhealthy relationship with food, you will be shocked at how easy this is.
  • No one is question FB's right to do anything. Of course they can delete whatever they want. That's not the point.
  • I really mean no offense, but you're just now discovering patriarchy (and misogyny) at 22 years old? Where have you been?
