  • I had my thyroid removed in 1999. For me, as long as I keep my TSH levels in a good range then I haven't had any issues losing weight at all - I've lost 163 lbs over the past 2+ years and I'm in my late 40s which normally makes losing weight a bit more difficult.
  • I love Jimmy Johns and always get an Unwich. It isn't messy at all...they just take all of the sandwich toppings and put them on several lettuce leaves and wrap it all up. The wrap is then wrapped tightly in paper that you peel away as you eat the Unwich so it stays together. My favorite is the Bootlegger Club Unwich
  • Start now with a mixture of cardio and strength training...it makes a huge difference in how your body looks at you lose (not to mention that by adding muscle your body will burn more calories which will help with your weight loss).
  • Fairysoul - I would love the recipe for the creamy chicken and tomato soup! It looks amazing!!
  • I like it on apple slices...yummy!
  • I'm on levothyroxine. I started at 150 mcg right after my thyroidectomy, went up to 175 at my highest weight and now am sitting comfortably at 112 - it took several months of going in every 4-6 weeks for bloodwork to settle on this dosage so be patient. Also, make sure you speak up for yourself - even if your TSH is in the…
  • I had a total thyroidectomy in 1999 and I agree that as long as your meds have your TSH level in the right place you shouldn't have any problem losing weight. I've lost about 160 lbs over the past 2 years and I haven't found my lack of a thyroid a problem at all. I will say that if you have a lot of weight to lose, you…
  • I started out at 325 almost 2 years ago (my highest weight was 335)...today, I'm 175!
  • Ditto on the Champion Powerback...until I found that one, I never could find a supportive sports bra.
  • Mine does both. It pulls over your head (but isn't tight when you do it) and hooks - it's the Champion Powerback Underwire Sports Bra. I don't know if you care that it has underwire (I have DDs and need the extra support)...
  • Your weight is going to fluctuate during the day simply based on what you eat and drink (regardless of the exercise). If you're going to weigh daily then weigh once (first thing in the morning) and stop weighing at the end of the day...that said, if you choose to weigh daily you also have to be able to deal with the daily…

  • Given how much weight you want to lose, chances are you will have some saggy skin. I've lost 162 lbs in total and I definitely have saggy boobs and some saggy skin but I do have to say that it's not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I think losing it slowly helps, along with your age (I'm 47 so you're a lot younger…
  • My latest favorite is: 1 cup unsweetened almond milk 1/4 cup 0% plain greek yogurt 1 scoop vanilla protein powder 1 cup fresh spinach 1 cup frozen berries (blueberry, blackberry, strawberry) 1 packet splenda Tastes incredible (you can't taste the spinach at all) and makes a huge amount for 255 calories and 33g protein.
  • What procedure are you having? I've lost almost 150 lbs with the help of my lapband and there are many other lapband patients on here (most of my friends are lapband patients) so you can friend me if you'd like. Good luck with your journey! I can truely tell you that it was the best decision I've ever made for myself!!
  • I have a 14 year old son with Asperger's and ADHD. He is doing well with the help of medication and last year we found an absolutely wonderful school for him. It is a small, private school and the kids are very accepting...so accepting that he was voted class vice president for this school year! After so many years of…
  • I say GO FOR IT! Last week, I went took a Zumba class on a different night with an instructor I'd never seen. I would say she is probably 20-25 lbs overweight. Initially, I was surprised because all of the other instructors are so fit but in the end she was one of the best instructors I've ever had. Her routines were…
  • I get asked about my weight loss A LOT...but then again, I've lost 155 lbs from my highest weight so it's pretty hard not to notice  I did worry at first that people would be doing some mental math and trying to figure out what I weighed when I started but then I realized that I was being silly...it really doesn't…
  • 4 Meatballs 1/4 cup Ragu low fat alfredo sauce 1/4 cup part skim shredded mozzarella cheese Arizona diet green tea Yum
  • I agree with Rachel - I also live in New Orleans and when I eat out I tend to stick to the seafood (which is amazing down here) and if I don't then I just make sure to ask for the sauces on the side. You will get a lot of walking in which should balance out the extra calories but my suggestion would be to enjoy yourself…
  • Thanks for posting this...I'm always looking for a low carb way to eat pizza and this looks terrific!!
  • I'm not very coordinated either but the moves are very repetetive and you will eventually pick them up (even when you aren't doing them exactly the way the instructor is you are still moving and burning calories). I was really scared when I first went to class because I figured that everyone would be staring at me but…
  • I've been doing Zumba for about 8 months now...during that time, I've lost about 60 lbs. But the best testimony I can give you about my Zumba results is that last week I had a consultation with a plastic surgeon about a tummy tuck. While I was talking with him he told me that along with the tummy tuck he always does some…
  • I have the Bodybugg SP (the one that synchs with smartphones) and I love it! I, too, have found that the calorie burn here on MFP is not accurate at all (and I already knew that the calories burned on the elliptical and stationary bike weren't accurate either) so it is good to know exactly how much I am burning each day so…
  • Anyone thinking about being banded definately needs to talk to someone who has one (not just people who "know" someone who has been banded). I was banded on December 2nd, 2010...my highest weight was 325 lbs. As of this morning (a little over 9 months after surgery) I weigh 219 which is a loss of 106 lbs. I will be the…
  • I have the Bodybugg SP and I love it! I have had it for 2 weeks now and it has made a huge difference to me. Now that I know what my daily calorie burn is (which is quite a bit different than the calculations on MFP, BTW) I have been able to adjust my calories to maximize my weight loss. Previously, I was almost a month…
  • I was banded in December 2010 and I have been diagnosed with PCOS although it is not severe enough that I have to be on medication and I was able to get pregnant twice without fertility treatments (even though my doctor says that I shouldn't have been able to). Since I started my pre-op diet in mid November, I have lost…

  • I was banded this past December and in that time I have lost 56 lbs (I started at 325). I am one of the lucky ones in that I felt restriction from the very beginning and have only had one fill since surgery (and that was 2 weeks ago). I'm lucky that my insurance covered the surgery and the fills (they did not cover the…
