  • I ran for an hour--new route, so maybe it was about 5 miles. The CEMETARY route. It was awesome. Running up and down the hills of the local cemetary all decorated with flowers and flags. I then ran to our courthouse and they had 1100 large flags flowing in the breeze, honoring the veterans of our town. Just awesome. Don't…
  • Hi all. Welcome new posters. Schools out this coming week so I can run during the week instead of on the weekends like I've been doing. I did my usual 5.5 miles this morning. Need to mix it up and I'm planning on upping the mileage when school gets out. Thanks for the chocolate milk info. I think I'll get some soy choc to…
  • I've been getting in periodic runs every few days. Hopefully, weather cooperating, I'll be back to running every day or every other day. Did 5.75 this morning and the sweat was dripping instead of freezing. Yay!
  • I have two toddlers. No way I can work out when I get home. I get up at 4:30 AM to work out. Sick, I know, but that is the only time that will stick for me. When the weather gets better here in Iowa I will take the kids in the jogger for a walk after school. Otherwise, it's just me and my exercise DVD's WAY too early in…

  • Hello nice weather! It was getting old with my exercise DVD's. Did about 6 miles in 35 degrees and it's going to get nicer. I hope spring has truly sprung here in Iowa. Good runs to everyone. Lisa
  • Weather permitting I run when I can 4-5 miles at a crack. I rotate that with TaeBo Advanced and Cathe Friedrich Body Max 2 DVD or Kick Punch and Crunch. Love it love it!
  • I haven't run in a month due to the fact Iowa has been moved to the North Pole without my knowledge. Kidding! I don't have a treadmill and it has been horrible outside (slippery and packed snow). So I went out today, nervous that I wouldn't do well because I've been doing exercise DVD's and no running. I did 5 miles, and…
  • I lost 20 pounds during student teaching. I didn't work out, but I was so busy I didn't eat too much! As a teacher right now, the only way I can assure I can work out is get up at the crack of dawn and get my workout in. Sigh! I don't like it, but I feel so much better during the day and have tons more energy. Good luck…
  • If I am congested, I find that a good, light workout helps clear me up quite a bit. Otherwise, if it's the flu or something with an upset stomach--all bets are off!
  • High School Counselor/Alt. Ed. Director here! I have kids in my room ALL THE TIME. I allow them snacks and have a small fridge in my room (snuck that by the administration!). I keep baby carrots and yogurt (I freeze it in the fridge and then mix it up with cereal) , Lowfat microwave popcorn, lots of apples, oranges and…
  • I have at least one a day. I don't drink coffee or do much of anything else that is unhealthy. I eat very clean. If I want a diet soda, I'm having one.
  • Almost any cardio Cathe Friedrich video (Kick Punch Crunch, Body max) in 60 minutes you'll burn 500 calories. Tae Bo for 60 minutes you'll burn 450 to 500 calories. I would reccomend kickboxing to hit the 500 cal mark. But, you have to check your form and give it your all...
  • Kickboxing kicks. TaeBo is great for those inner thigh muscles. Billy Blanks really focuses on form while kicking.
  • Alisha, I ran feeling icky too today. I wish I would just throw up and get it over with! That is the worst feeling. Anyway, did 5.5 today in freezing drizzle. Just kept getting worse and worse. I took 15 minutes longer than I normally would, but I didn't have to walk very much, just on super icy patches. We live on top of…
  • I like the boca vegan too. I put it on a rice cake with ketchup and a tiny bit of honey dijon mustard. 105 calories. Enough to have two servings!
  • Did almost 6 and felt good about that. I have a bit of an upset stomach from eating pizza last night. Interestingly, it went away while I was running! My goal this year is to run a race higher than 10K. Happy running all.
  • Kickboxing has worked for me. The arm jabs and punches have toned me up quite a bit. Also, good old fashioned push ups!
  • Sadly familiar. My mom and MIL are larger. I eat a specific diet and get ridiculed whenever we have get togethers. I used to be like them, eating bad food and feeling worse. Understand it is THEIR issue. THEIR jealousy and insecurity. Stand up for yourself, please, or it will build. Smile when you zip up your small jeans…
  • Simply put. Eat them. It's soooo much better to keep the weight off if you eat them.
  • I don't love getting up at 4:30 on weekdays to work out, but i DO love how I feel the rest of the day. I just make sure and go to bed earlier. It makes a difference. I'm a total nerd, but I'm in bed by 8:30 or earlier. I've been doing this since August, starting with the 30 day Shred and then Tae Bo Advanced and now Cathe…
  • I eat cleanly, drink plenty of water and exercise 7 days a week. I also do not eat read meat or loads of carbs. I like diet soda and I will continue to drink it. To those who don't, god bless you. As for me, I will have my 1-2 sodas a day. Yay! BTW--I continue to tone and lose weight.
  • Wow, I wish I was running. I taebo'ed this morning. It is way too icy to go out running, otherwise the temp wouldn't bother me. I'm hoping sometime this weekend a little of that ice might melt. Or perhaps my DH will buy me a treadmill (yeah, right!).
  • What has worked for me is mostly cardio. However, I do use handweights with large reps. I keep my handweights under 10 lbs. I also find kickboxing does both toning and is excellent cardio. I find myself getting leaner but also stronger. I also switch up my routine every month or so. I run, that is my constant, but I switch…
  • I did 5 this morning in the snow! Sadly, in my neck of the woods, not a lot of marathons until the spring thaw.
  • I put in my 5 miles. Bring on the bird!
  • I rarely eat before running. If I do I have a banana and rice cake. Some carbs are good!
  • Got 5 miles in this morning. Side stictches: I've gotten them twice. What has worked for me is to tie a jacket/sweatshirt very tight across my waist. Somehow this holds them off?
  • If you are exercising for more than an hour, I'd reccomend a little snack. This morning before my run, I had a small banana and caramel popcorn ricecake. 150 cals. Kept me going...
  • 5 miles in the slippery Iowa weather. I made it with no wipe-outs!
  • I'm a big snacker. I find myself with calories at night. I have one of my kids' sized bowls of frozen yogurt every night. I'm up at 4:30 every morning running or kickboxing for about 50 minutes, so I figure what the heck. I'm still slowly losing weight and toning up. It has kept me from blowing my eating. I usually have…
