Just try to teach him an active and healthy lifestyle. He shouldn't be counting calories until AT LEAST after puberty when his body is semi-done growing. If you restrict too much before you are done growing, it ultimately stunts growth.

you should never ever ever ever have a negative net calorie intake. your heart pumping and your body functioning requires calories. if you are eating too little for even those to take place, on top of exercising, those functions could potentially stop. this is why mfp sets a minumum of 1200 calories per day.

I ALWAYS keep special k strawberry fruit crisp bars in the house. They are 100 calories for 2 small fruit crisp things. Just enough to stop the hunger, but not overly filling either.

I have lost 8.6 pounds in about 8 weeks. A pound a week is nothing to be ashamed or discouraged over. This isnt a "quick fix." This is a LIFESTYLE CHANGE. The most important thing (even more so than the number on that scale) is how you feel. If you feel healthier, stronger, etc...then you have SUCCEEDED!!

no. i weight once a week (on monday mornings). your weight varies too much from day to day to weigh on a daily basis. in order to get a good idea of actual weight loss and not the size of the previous day's bowel movement, its better to weigh less often.

I am 5'5" as well, and while everyone has different body types, I have NEVER been below 120. Not even my freshman year in high school at my athletic prime (prior to injuries, medications, and weight gain). I feel like if you want to just tone up and are satisfied with the number, start eating at maintenance calorie levels…

While its not necessarily true, I tell myself that the high from working out or the satisfaction with staying in my calorie limit are my rewards. Im hoping that if I tell myself this long enough it will become true lol.
