Sodium intake problems

I have been an avid runner for years, but have recently started having trouble with my heart. My cardiologist told me to increase my sodium intake to 6000-8000 mg/day. There is no way I can eat that much sodium in a day. Any recommendations for supplements or pills?

That is a lot! I am a heavy salty sweater and I run a lot (training for full marathon) So I watch my sodium intake. I like it to be a little on the higher side. But I can tell one thing I found surprisingly high in sodium...shrimp...I made some bacon wrapped shrimp, and when I looked at the sodium content it was huge! for 10 (larger shrimp) the sodium content was 2600mg!

But I also have elete tablytes i will take before a particularly hot workout..but they aren't just sodium, so not sure if they would work for you...they have other the electrolytes and minerals. I do know they sell just sodium tablets at sporting good stores, but have you asked your dr for any recommendations?
