If you want science, take a look at The China Study. Low-carb and other protein-heavy diets can't show the same anti-cancer, anti-heart disease results as a plant-based diet. It is a huge study by certified nutritionists who did not expect to find what they did. Whole foods are good, including whole fruits of every kind.…

Just picked up a bunch of Amy's frozen entrees (vegan Pad Thai and Red Curry) for those days when there's no time (or inclination!) to cook. On sale at Costco! :-)

Mornings are either a green smoothie with blueberries (more like a blue smoothie) or oatmeal or muesli with almond milk or soy yogurt. Lunches tend to be salads (or a green smoothie if I had cereal for breakfast). Dinners: often soup or a veggie stew, veggies with pasta, Indian curries, stir fries with seitan, roasted…

Wow. If your husband can't understand what miscarriages and full-term pregnancies do to a woman (physically and mentally) he should get some counseling. So sorry you're in this situation! But it's great that you're here. Good for you for putting yourself first!

Hi Lia--I am also a vegan (though I am a pescetarian when we eat out). There's a board here for vegans that it took me a while to find, but there are lots of others there that may not see this! Just do a search for "vegans" or "vegetarians." And welcome!

I am always looking forward to a green smoothie in the morning! If you had put the words "green" and "smoothie" together before this, I would have thought it was a joke.

Hi everyone, My name is Janet and I'm glad I finally found this group! I have been a vegan only since August 2014, for several reasons: * A dear vegan friend of mine made the cruelty-free argument (he is Buddhist), and I was persuaded. * My 11-months-younger brother had triple-bypass heart surgery this past year. * All the…

To lower the amount of sugar she consumes, obviously. She has probably got a lower calorie budget than you do.

Hello everyone, I'm new to setting goals for myself, but my goal for the second half of October is to lose a pound and keep it off. I've been so discouraged lately, losing a pound, gaining it back, losing it again, while not seeming to change my diet at all. I suddenly have a shape I never had before, which involves having…

I'm not sure I can explain your pain, but when I get this pain it's because I have tensed my neck & shoulder, usually on the "weaker" side of my body. I now hear my various instructors saying "Get your shoulders out of your ears!" and am able to relax the shoulders and use other muscles (side or chest muscles).

I ordered a Jawbone Up24 about three hours before reading this thread, based on a bit of research. When I was a runner (before the hip replacement!) I *loved* the Nike chip that fits into their shoes & the app that comes with it. I found it really helped me train harder.

Also I'm wondering whether being a post-menopausal woman has an effect on weight loss (I suspect it does) and whether anyone here has the experience to give advice about that aspect.

Hello, Hearts on Fire, I've read many of those links, and that's why I'm asking about carbs and fats. I suppose I could add soy proteins like seitan and tempeh in greater quantities -- I'm hoping someone else who is vegan will comment on what worked for her (or him).

Hello Yarwell, The recommendation is from MFP. I set my diary on "public" so you can see it now. Logging my exercise as above results in 210 calories burned in 30 minutes.

The recipe shows up if you search the database for My Fitness Pal Spaghetti Squash Pad Thai. You add the peanuts at the end. No, it's not "real" Pad Thai, but it's satisfying, has much of the taste, and fits my calorie requirements. Try it, you'll like it!

Cyclists and motorists need to know the laws in their states. In Idaho, it is LEGAL for a cyclist to slow at a stop sign or red light and, if the way is clear, proceed without stopping.

OK, I'm 5'0", at a desk most of the day, doing Pilates & riding a bike for exercise & commuting. At 1200 calories/day or a bit more, I have hovered around 120 lbs for two months, which is about 10-15 more lbs than I should be carrying; that's why I joined MFP. When I dropped down to 1000 cals/day, it was a lot easier to…
