  • Friday weigh in..started I week ago.. SW 195 PW193 Goal 175 by Easter
  • Thank you Marie :) Cheering on all you participants! I just turned 61 on January 12th. My final goal weight is 140. Hopefully this challenge will give me the boost I need right now. The junk from Christmas is gone from the house and I don't have to host anyone and make a dessert anytime soon so I should be good to go LOL
  • I'm am joining this challenge. I got serious with weight loss about this time last year and lost 35 lbs by July 2014. Unfortunately I gained 15 lbs back since then, most of it over the month of December. I started at 215 last year and am now 195. It is 10 weeks til Easter Monday so I will have to work hard!
  • So I assume you don't like the premise of the TV show "What Not to Wear"
  • Coleslaw without any dressing is very low in calories. Some of us log the dressing calories separately.
  • The ice cream in my fridge at present does not give the serving size in grams. Only half cup or 125 ml
  • Of course. Fluid is fluid. Technically we could count any juice, milk, pop etc as well. I recently heard an expert on water/hydration say that the idea that coffee and tea can't be counted is a myth. As is the idea that we "must" have 8 glasses of water a day'. Our body is designed to let us know when it needs water.…
  • What is "fossil fuel based agriculture"? Are you suggesting farmers go back to plowing behind horses? I agree that the other things you mentioned are problems but on the other hand, we have 7 billion people to feed on this planet and we can't do that with 19th century farming practices.
  • Sorry can't agree. Anything that gets your heart rate up is "exercise" whether it is at the gym or behind a snow shovel or a garden rake. I personally don't count them however unless it is a sustained activity. I spent a couple of hours raking out my gardens and lawn the other day and I sure counted that..it certainly got…
  • I use both .Generally, if it's a solid I weigh, a liquid I measure.
  • Well I happen to be heterosexual and your 2-7 are just as objectionable to me as gay people flaunting their preferences.Bad behavior is bad behavior. I have no interest in hearing about or seeing anyone's sexual behavior which should be a private matter.
  • Well you know, none of us are getting off the planet alive anyway!
  • Not really Science has disproved the MYTHS we have been told by nutritionists for decades. Those myths were not based on science.
  • I t happens to people with low blood sugar issues (hypoglycemia). If I were to eat cereal or pancakes for breakfast, inevitably I will get shaky and have intense sugar cravings about an hour later...especially if I am doing something that requires me to burn energy.

  • At about 14 lbs lost I could fit back into a pair of jeans and two shirts I had stopped wearing because they were too tight. I think I noticed it first in my bra..I had some that were new and too tight at the outside hook , but became tolerable after losing maybe 10 lbs.
  • I think what is not being understood is not that we are craving the food we choose not to buy, but that having some of the food CREATES THE CRAVING.. I don't go around craving cinnamon buns, rarely ever think of them, but if I go to the bakery and smell them, the craving starts and heaven help me if I buy them, I will eat…
  • Unfortunately the opposite is generally true when older people lose weight. Being the age of 60, I know I will look a lot older than I do now if I reach my goal weight. I wish there was some way to lose weight everywhere BUT the face!
  • A woman I saw every Sunday, in fact she was a greeter at the door to the church sanctuary, did not know I was pregnant until I showed up with the baby. And this is not because I was one of those women "didn't show"....:(

  • Re peanut butter, I would not weigh that but measure it with a measuring spoon.

  • Both the Atkins diet and the Heller (Carbohydrate addicts diet) work because the body is not putting out insulin as often. Insulin is the hunger hormone. That is why many of us have cravings for more when we eat carbs, especially foods with a high glycemic index. I did the Atkins diet years ago. I had tons of energy and…
  • There is nothing wrong with butter as long as you fit it into your daily calorie goal. I pop plain popcorn in a bowl in the microwave and drizzle a couple of teaspoons of melted butter on it . I find it is a satisfying snack that curbs the evening carb cravings.
  • I use the "all natural" kind and I find that a couple of teaspoons is plenty for toast which is my breakfast on most days.
  • My Grandpa used to say: behave or I will give you a tin ear", but I never knew just what that was. I remember once, as my mom came driving up the road , my Grandpa commented "here she comes, with lard in her hair and her ears pinned back!"
  • If you can afford a treadmill, as an alternative to going outside, that could be a solution to get you moving with just walking, and increasing the level of difficulty as you start to feel better and lose weight.
  • If you prefer to weigh every day, my advice is to chart your weight daily , total the weights every seven days and divide by 7. Consider that your "true" weight for that week. As each week goes by you should see the downward trend, That way the daily fluctuations will not have the same impact.
  • To put thing into perspective, the Inuit people traditionally survived and were healthy on a diet of protein and fat, and virtually no carbs.
  • I agree that it helps to avoid the "diet" word with those kinds of people. The best thing is to smile politely and say "no thankyou"...and if they persist keep saying it. Eventually they will "get it"
  • Re cooking chicken question, I used to steam my chicken in an electric skillet (with a lid) on a rack. All the fat drains to the bottom of the pan, and the skin is easily removed, ...and the chicken is still nice and moist.
  • I have lost 20 lbs since starting Fitnesspal, on August 31st.
