I personally would be encouraged by a compliment like the ones you described ... some days those are just the thing to help keep me motivated! I would say do it ... you might help get someone out of a rut that day and to see their hard work is well worth it! Great question!

I was told opposite, by my doctor and my trainer - to make sure you are not working out with food in your stomach, for the same reason you mentioned below. Instead, have protein after a workout ... shake, bar, eggs, etc. This is what I do and the only thing I know to do. Hope you find a good fit for your morning routine!

I say don't listen to what anyone else says if its discouraging ... go with what the majority says that works, and if that doesn't work for you, modify to whatever will.
