I used to be an emotional eater and with direction I looked at why that was. Eating was a distraction from what was bothering me. I could get lost in the action of preparing food, savoring flavours, sometimes zoning out and going on automatic while chomping. It took a lot of conscious effort, but I substituted computer…

Congratulations on making the commitment! You've certainly taken the right steps.

I definitely find it harder to lose weight now that I'm in my forties. I lost 115 lbs at 32 years old in less than a year. At 46 y.o. I've lost 53 lbs in 6 or 7 months, and now I've plateaued for 4 or 5 weeks. I'll be very lucky if I shed 75 lbs at the end of 12 months. Welcome to the group!

Hello & welcome!

I log as soon as I eat, usually right before I start eating so I don't forget anything. I have the app on my phone so even when I'm away I have no excuse for not doing so.

It's not always easy to figure out binge triggers, and we often have several. I know I do. And sometimes I don't know why I spiral into it. At this point I'm concentrating less on why and more on how I react; how I react to the initial cravings, how I react when the realisation hits me that I'm in the throes of a binge,…

I don't do this myself because I get a hard time about my calorie goals, but... some people make themselves accountable by making their diaries viewable to friends. I look at my friend's food diaries if they're open. And even if your diary is not viewable, if you add friends they will still see whether or not you make your…

Glad to hear you're back on track and not letting it get you down. We all have times where our actions aren't consistent with our goals, and the key is to recognise that, recommit ourselves, and move forward. Planning your meals is a great way to keep yourself on program. Keeping your goals visible and in mind will help…

Encouragement is a great thing. There are lots of groups on the site...maybe there's one or two that will interest and challenge you.

You can definitely do it! You even said it helps, so you see the value. Feel free to add me. Maybe join a group and take on a challenge?

I used NutriSystem in the late '80s and reached my goal weight, no problem. Once I went off the packaged meals and quit going to the weekly meetings and weigh ins, basically all the structure went away, I kept the weight off about a year then gained it back. Now we have the Internet and sites like MFP for support during…

The best tip is to track every calorie and be brutally honest about it, even if it means logging more calories than your daily limit and seeing the red numbers. For me, when I do that, I lose weight. Exercise helps, especially if you bank the calories you gain from exercise and don't eat them. Good luck!

Congrats on the upcoming wedding! I've got 62 lbs to go... so I'm in the same range as you. Feel free to add me. =)

Hi everyone! I'm new, but I'm not new. It's my second go on MFP, been back about 10 days. Feel free to add me. I'm always looking for buddies to support me and me to support back.

Lots of encouragement here! Tracking calories is the keystone.

Sorry to hear you're injured, that bites. There are a lot of exercises you can do in a chair. There used to be a show on public television that was just that, Sit and be Fit. Good luck!

As a general rule, no, I don't eat my exercise calories. I'm a binge eater (recovering) and if I get overwhelmed, those exercise calories give me a buffer that I can use to indulge a little a stave off a major attack.

I'm a 6'1" 46 y.o. male and I eat 1300 calories a day, up from 1000 calories a day. Some people can eat less than others and be just fine. We're all individuals and it depends on your body and level of activity. I'm very sedentary due to a disability and need to eat far less than the standard man, and my exercise is…

I have a similar issue - night eating. Do you have a particular trigger that's happening at night? If you can identify what exactly is causing you to eat maybe you can remove or avoid it. I'm fine until after 11pm. When I get tired and sleepy I start to lose control, so I try to go to bed on time and not stay up. When I do…

Congrats on your success!

I like having friends here, people in the same boast so to speak. I get ideas from what other people are posting. I don't think it's necessary for success, but it doesn't hurt.

If I can, I get the menu ahead of time and decide what I am going to eat before I go so I'm not overwhelmed when I get there. We usually have holidays at our house or my in-law's house, so I have a lot of control over the situation. My place is set with a bread plate or breakfast plate instead of a dinner plate, and I use…

I have my goals and milestones written and visible and I see them often. I also look at people's transformation pictures and read their stories. I'm a visual person and these types of things keep me motivated.

I haven't had any problems. I click on Community>Groups in the navigation bar, and it appears at the top left of the page under 'My Groups'. Is it not doing the same for you?
-
Wow. It looks like you got a total makeover. Fantastic results!

You've got great results to show for your efforts! =)
