Hi, Friend! So I totally relate to the yo-yo diet thing and wanting to quit it and get good looking AND healthy. I got a wake up call from nearly passing out playing tennis a couple of years ago! The key to doing those things, like a 10 mile hike, is just to start small. Walking 30 minutes a day is enough to get started,…

I saw this and was inspired to go to my boyfriend's work and give him a hug on my lunch break. We both needed it: work is stressful!

Ok, ignore all the girls saying DON'T. If you make eye contact and she looks away, than yeah, don't approach her. But if you smile at her and she smiles back, that's a good sign. It's probably not a good idea to walk up to her while she's working out and interrupt her, so wait to speak to her when she's about to leave the…

Anybody?

Oh my gosh, this makes me cringe! Has he ever talked to a doctor about this diet? A doctor would likely advise him not to eat exactly the same thing every day, no matter what it is, because your body needs variety to get all the nutrition it needs. It will probably be hard to find a resource he'll accept, even if it is…

None! I mean, can you eat just a certain number and stop? I certainly couldn't!

Great topic. I am trying to do this, too. I wouldn't worry about whether it's an "equivalent" intensity. Try High Intensity Interval Training! I recently went from running a 5k most days to trying HIIT. Now I do 30 seconds sprinting, 1 minute 30 seconds jogging, 30 seconds sprinting, etc. It's pretty cool and seems to be…

His behavior is harmful. He is not innocent. You need to take care of yourself. It sounds like you're not out of the woods yet. See a therapist if you're not already doing so. Take him along with you so he can find out how he can help you instead of hurting. If he won't go, break up with him. Best of luck.

You're welcome! Please share with your friends. I hunted this up for my dad, who is KHill511. Feel free to add!

I definitely see a difference, and that's actually how I figured out what my goal weight should be. I look best in photos at 135, so that's what I'm trying to get back to! Even just 10lbs more makes me ruin pictures :(

All the women in my family have gotten married by 23. I just turned 24 and am still single. Thankfully they don't bug me about it, but I feel the pressure. Also most of my friends are married now and many have had babies. BUT, also some of my friends who got married early are starting to get divorced. So...lots to be said…

When I reach my goal I'm going to be an extra in a movie, or even audition for a part!

Sort of surprised to admit this, because I hadn't thought about it really-- It was a BOY. I had a crush on a guy friend of mine. We went to play tennis together and I had to rest after like 15 minutes. He was into running and stuff, and I realized I would have to get in shape in order to spend more time with him. So, we…

If MFP tells you to have 1200 calories, that means net calories. It is giving you the calorie deficit you need to lose weight. And it knows what it's doing! I lost 50lbs eating the net calories MFP told me to, even when I exercised a lot. I recognize, however, that you are burning A LOT of calories. It would probably be…

When I lost 50 lbs I logged 99% of the time, even when it was bad, and I found that I actually had less bad the more I logged. Now that I'm trying to lose 15 lbs of regained weight, I've discovered that I'm really bad on the weekends. I say "discovered" because at first I wasn't logging them, kind of giving myself a break,…

So, MFP should give you enough guidance that you don't have to worry about your calorie deficit. When you set your goal to lose x pounds per week, it automatically calculates what your net calories each day should be. Eat more than 1200 so you don't go into starvation mode, and exercise to burn off enough to hit your net…

That could probably be counted as circuit training, depending on how much effort you put into it. Here's the thing, though: a little exercise routine with crunches, lunges, pushups etc. just isn't going to be enough. I used to do that every morning and pat myself on the back for it, but I was STILL overweight. You need to…

Awesome thread. The more you know!

Your job sounds almost as bad as mine.

To clarify: He is motivated to do it, and he is participating, he just gets too frustrated with the MFP software to keep up. Since I've been doing it for a while, I offered to help him with logging and coach him. Granted, it is going to be difficult, but I'm hopeful. I am actually looking into become a good…

I actually do feed stuff to my dog sometimes. Not anything bad for her, though, just when I'm about to have too much of something I let her finish it instead. I also try not to buy things that I know tempt me the worst, and I try to make my own healthy alternatives, like sugar-free brownies.

I am working on the same thing. The 30-20-10 seems to work well for me. My goal is to jog my comfortable pace 30 seconds, then a little faster for 20 seconds, then sprint for 10 seconds. Then I drop back down to jogging for 30 seconds, and make my way back up. After I do it a couple of times (just 2 minutes :-/), I usually…

I just turned 24, lost 50lbs last year! Feel free to add me with a little message about your journey. I am now dealing with a 15lb re-gain, probably due to holidays and because I lost rather fast, so I'm on a slow loss plan with lots of exercise now.

Glad you like it! I am thinking of hosting a screening in my area. They have a lot of great resources for community involvement.

I'm thinking 25 as well. But hey, why not go for inches so that belt will fit? Doing standing/aerobic pilates has made me lose inches even though my weight doesn't change as fast (diet is what mainly effects the scale for me). If you have Netflix Instant, try alternating "Crunch: Super SlimDown" and "Crunch: Fat-Burning…

Good for you for taking a strong step toward improving your health. Logging your food and exercise on MFP is a great way to lose weight simply by monitoring your calories in and out. However, there's more to health than calories. I think you could rejuvenate your weight loss by making your diet "cleaner" as you say. Why…

I happened upon this article this afternoon and it reminded me of your post. The gist of the article is: Willpower is finite, so take a break. They show this with lots of interesting studies where people eat cookies or radishes. http://youarenotsosmart.com/2012/04/17/ego-depletion/
