  • I’ve lost about 10 pounds and didn’t think I could see a difference, and then I saw a picture of me from just four months ago and was like “whoa”. It might not be noticeable day to day but that’s what progress pics are for.
  • Congrats on the job!
  • It's whatever works for you. You're right, it might not always be this easy and fast and you may get discouraged later on. But it's totally up to you how you want to do it. There's no weight loss police that are going to arrest you for weighing yourself every hour if you want to.
  • I'm a loner and I like it that way. Most stuff I can do on my own by watching videos and starting light, but I'm too afraid to try snatches without a trainer. Pretty sure I would hurt someone. Maybe someday.
  • I am well-endowed and that's my favorite bra, too. It's comfortable (no underwire), and it doesn't give me a uni-boob but is somehow still really supportive. And they're cute.
  • Honestly, Wal-Mart has really good stuff for cheap. I hate Walmart and avoid it at all (most) costs but I go there for their Danskin pants. I buy my bras at Target. Their workout clothes are a little pricier so I don't usually buy other workout clothes there. And I'll put another vote in for Old Navy.
  • If it's that bad, you need to rest. But my experience is that walking actually helps. When I've tweaked my back, if I've been sitting too long, I'll be super stiff and awkward and painful when I get up but the more I walk and stand, the more it loosens up. That's just me - your back pain could be of a completely different…
  • I started with just the bar on everything. On some (like overhead press) I couldn't even do the bar so I used some of the lighter pre-weighted bars. Basically, start where you feel comfortable. It should be heavy-ish, but on the easier end because you really want to take your time getting a good feel for the movement and…
  • Basically this. I've found that there are certain foods that after I eat my pre-approved portion, I just Still Want Moar even though I'm not still hungry. I give myself a ten minute rule. I wait ten minutes and if I still want it, I can have some. It's very rare that I actually go back for more in these cases -usually 10…
  • Sometimes instead of listening to music I listen to a comedy podcast. If you're on a machine at the gym you can even try watching netflix or hulu on your smart phone. I've done that a few times as well. You could try group classes at the gym. Those aren't usually boring.
  • My guess would be she's getting smothered by them during downward dog, lol. I know the feeling. If it's just awkward, then I would suggest just continuing on and you'll get used to it. If it's genuinely inhibiting your movement, you might look at some heavy duty sports bras or even binding them with an ace bandage.
  • Ha ha, there were no replies when I started mine. Got distracted by a quick conversation and now I'm way at the bottom. (Just FYI, this rambling nonsense is to cover up an accidental duplicate post.)
  • Weight loss is mostly about what you eat. You have to eat less than you burn. But to answer your question, I lost a lot of weight a few years ago doing workout videos at home. I particularly enjoyed Pilates (anything by Ellen Barrett), and then I got really into The Firm. You just need an open space and some light…
  • How much broccoli would I have to eat to get 8 grams of protein?
  • I can relate. This process is really beating me down lately. I'm in the same boat with knowing what I need to do, I'm not asking for advice, it's just not working for me like it should and I'm getting very frustrated. So I feel you. Sad fist bump.
  • You've lost 12 pounds in four weeks and you feel like quitting?
  • Give your back a break! If your issue is similar to mine, I find that walking actually helps a lot. My back tightens up and sitting is the absolute worst thing I can do. I suggest just walking until it feels better, then get back to other types of exercise when you feel 100% ready and confident that you won't re-injure.
  • I'm sorry if it feels like people are looking down on you. The fact that you are doing it under a doctor's care alleviates some concerns. At least for me, the reason I asked about it is that the thing that is going to help you the most with your problem areas will be to lift weights - free weights, not machines. That is…
  • I am not either of the people you quoted, but in my opinion yes, those are still empty calories. The person eating/drinking it is getting a benefit from it, sure. But those items are not contributing to their overall nutrition goals as far as macro or micro nutrient, so yes, still empty.
  • What exactly is "solid fat"? What foods would be an example of something that contains a "not solid fat" that would apparently not be an empty calorie? Confused. Cheese is so not empty! I don't even love cheese very much, but I rely on it to help me reach my protein goals as well as my calcium. Bang for the buck, people!
  • Of course they're not evil, but they're not very satiating. I, like many others who posted above, usually try to get some protein in with my snack. It helps. Greek yogurt, fruit with nut butter, some almonds, whatever. More filling than pretzels. Ooh, dip your pretzels in peanut butter! Heck yeah.
  • This. I would agree that soda is empty calories. (Which is not to say that I don't think you should drink it, or that I never drink it. I do.) I disagree about pretty much everything else though. Just because popular belief is that something is a "junk food" doesn't make it devoid of nutrition. Pizza has tons of nutrition.…
  • I'm not trying to be a debbie downer, but I just don't want you to be disappointed or frustrated. 60 pounds in 6 months is an aggressive goal. 25-30 pounds is a bit more realistic. I'm 5'0", I started at 165 in January and here it is almost June and I'm only down to 155.6. That's at about 1300 calories a day, exercising 4…
  • When you enter fruits and vegetables, always include "usda" in your search terms and pick an entry that includes "usda" in the title. Those are always more accurate than random user-created entries.
  • This thread needs an EXTRA special .gif. Not just any one will do.
  • Before the thread gets locked, someone please translate "doe" and "AF" for me? I finally figured out that wk was white knight. and lmaoo is "laughing my *kitten* off off".
  • I think it had more to do with the whole "I don't grab women but I grab their butts, it's cool, most of them like it" thing.
